Interesting to see the AFL's Round 9 flexi weekend to cater for the A-League grand final. Reckon it's good-will, or just contract obligations? Remember a few years back Freo and Doggies wouldn't move from Etihad and it caused a stink

It only coursed a stink because the FFA failed to book the venue before the AFL confirmed their fixture. Through the AFL where pricks in offering the FFA to pay $1M in order to move the match, regardless the FFA told them to stick it! A blessing in the end because that Grand Final at AMMI Park was something special, one I'll never forget being there to witness.

It would be a contract obligation because after that stuff up both parties and the venue come to an agreement that all future weekends of A-league GF at Docklands/Marvel stadium will be reserved in case Melbourne Victory happen to win the right to hosting it for as long as Melbourne Victory is contracted to play at Docklands/Marvel. Which I think runs out in 2025.
