Sydney FC ready to bag Brattan with Reid joining coaching ranks | The World Game
Dave Lewis
Brattan, who has spent the last three seasons at Melbourne City, was also on the radar of crosstown adversaries Western Sydney Wanderers.
But a late swoop by Sydney derailed that move to add another layer of animosity between the rivals, already heightened by the Sky Blues scooping up former Wanderers playmaker Alexander Baumjohann.
Sydney have also announced defender Ryan McGowan and midfielder Anthony Caceres on two-year deals over the past week.
But it was the loss of Josh Brillante to Melbourne City which brought them into the market for fellow midfielder Brattan.
It’s understood Brattan - who was initially hoping to move to Asia - has agreed a multi-year deal with the defending champions.
Having been bought by Manchester City in 2016, he was quickly loaned back to their Melbourne affiliate via Bolton Wanderers.
The Brisbane Roar product made 26 appearances last season, scoring four times.
Meanwhile, Reid - who was on Sydney’s books in 2012 - replaces club great Terry McFlynn as football director and will also fill the assistant coaching chasm left by Ufuk Talay’s departure to Wellington Phoenix.
Having played in the UK for Brighton and Bradford, as well as Wollongong, Adelaide United and Melbourne Heart in the A-League, the 39-year-old has been with NSW NPL side Rockdale City Suns since 2013.
During that time he has transitioned from playing into coaching.
The twice-capped Reid has also kept his hand in with the Sky Blues in a community football officer role.
The new job-sharing gig, working alongside head coach Steve Corica whilst helping coordinate player recruitment and retention, is a significant step up.
His predecessor McFlynn has joined Perth Glory to take charge of the W-League team and to head up the club’s Academy.
Sydney FC were contacted for comment.

Sydney going all guns blazing this off season! new salary cap must be coming in ahead of the independent league?

Thoughts on Luck Brattan General Giant ?

Good pick up.

The loyalty program which is part of the cap has allowed us leeway.

I'd be a happy camper if the cap was dropped or o/s players weren't included in it.

Wow what a prick!

Brattan heads to Turkey after snubbing Sydney FC
Sydney FC have been gazumped in their bid to sign Luke Brattan, with the midfielder switching camps at the eleventh hour to clinch a deal in Turkey instead.
By Dave Lewis

Reports from Instanbul-based media outlet FutbolArena suggest the midfielder, who has parted company with Melbourne City after three seasons, has agreed to join Super Lig side Yeni Malatyaspor.
Having finished fifth on the ladder last season they have been looking to add depth to their squad and see free agent Brattan as a handy acquisition.
The report states that the 29-year-old is due in Istanbul imminently before heading to the city of Malatya to complete the formalities ahead of the new season.
The about-face is a blow for Sydney who were confident of snaring Brattan to fill the spot created by Josh Brillante’s departure to Melbourne City.
As recently as the weekend indications were that Brattan was on his way to the Harbour City.
It’s understood there was also another last-minute offer from the Korea Republic on the table but Brattan chose Turkey instead in what represents a second crack at making it overseas after his 2016 move to Manchester City ended with an aborted loan to Bolton Wanderers, followed by a swift return to the A-League.
Yeni Malatyaspor are based in the mountainous region of Eastern Anatolia and were only promoted to the top flight in 2017, having been founded in 1986.
They are coached by former Turkey international Sergen Yelcin.

Would of been a good replacement but still building a good list.

I do not want Brattan but seeing as we have 11 in the squad we probably have no choice.

Would take Juric though.

Sources have confirmed that Sydney FC have initiated talks with former Melbourne Victory winger Leroy George to fill one of their two remaining marquee spots.

Couple of years too late, smurfs.
