Safe to assume the ACL teams have had a better preseason/preparation than the other teams?

They should be much sharper early on than the other sides

Not necessarily. We don't start for another month whereas everyone else starts on the weekend. In theory, the other sides should all be sharper early on.

Cant say i even looked at the fixture. Sydney scheduled to play the 30th but assume thats off?

Id prefer meaningful games to get fitness in but yeah cancels out if they're off a month

I can't speak for Sydney and Victory, but IIRC, Glory's first game isn't until the 16th or something.

The A-League and Westfield W-League will proceed with a historic joint kick-off on Sunday 27 December, with an updated fixture schedule in light of the latest government guidance for New South Wales.
Back-to-back derbies are now scheduled for the opening day of both seasons, the first time the two leagues have begun on the same date, with Bankwest Stadium hosting Western Sydney Wanderers v Sydney FC in the Westfield W-League, followed by the Wanderers against expansion club Macarthur FC in the A-League opener.

Fixture adjustments have been made for the next month in response to the restricted travel which now applies to persons from New South Wales into other States and Territories. For the next four weeks, all clubs outside of New South Wales will continue to play one another, and all the clubs within New South Wales will continue with their games.

Brisbane Roar FC will host a new double-header at Dolphin Stadium on Tuesday 29 December when they host Melbourne City FC in the Westfield W-League and A-League.

Of the opening 40 A-League games, 15 remain unchanged, five (5) have been brought forward from later in the season, and the remaining games will be rescheduled in the near future in line with government travel and health advice.

Head of Leagues Greg O’Rourke said:

“We gained a significant amount of knowledge from the staging of the 2019/20 season which enabled us to move quickly and respond to these latest changes.

“We’ve mapped out the next month in light of the latest restrictions, and our focus remains on delivering the best possible football experience for every one of our 218 games between now and June 2021.

“We’re five days out from the start of a historic season and we are all ready for the summer of football to begin.”

Bunnings is the new major sponsor for the A-League, but doesn't seem to have the naming rights?
I thought it was only for team of the week and the ladder. Its just a league wide sponsor, which thankfully we will be getting more of due to the leagues Independence.

Correct. They aren't the major sponsor for the league.

Wanderers vs MacArthur is not the fixture I would have chosen to kick off the season but I guess the ffa's hands were tied.
Its the new derby at Bankwest (which is a great ground). If we are wanting Macarthur to start the season, which is probably a good idea, the wanderers is probably the most likely to give you a good crowd, while also being the battle of the West.

More fixture changes, WSW V MacArthur will now be played on the 30th Dec!

A-League and Westfield W-League fixture updates
In consultation with the NSW government, a decision has been made to move the A-League and Westfield W-League games scheduled for Sunday 27 December back by three days whilst the modified COVID-19 restrictions are in place in Sydney over the Christmas period.
The A-League 2020/21 season will now open on Monday 28 December between Western United FC and Adelaide United at GMHBA Stadium and the Westfield W-League 2020/21 season on Tuesday 29 December between Brisbane Roar FC and Melbourne City FC at Dolphin Stadium (a double-header with the men’s team).

The Westfield W-League/A-League double-header between Western Sydney FC & Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers FC & Macarthur FC will be moved to Wednesday 30 December at Bankwest Stadium.

Capacity levels will be reduced to 50% for all games in NSW until the end of December, including Central Coast Mariners v Newcastle Jets, in line with the guidance for New Year’s Eve celebrations state-wide.

Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke said:

“We have worked closely with the NSW government to ensure that the A-League and Westfield W-League seasons will go ahead as planned with the best possible experience for fans and players within the current restrictions. Moving the game back three days with a reduced capacity supports the government’s risk mitigation plan in relation to crowds and to mobility around the city during this Christmas period and New Year’s Eve.”
