I think it was 40 years. The State Sport Centres Trust look after Lakeside Oval.

From what I've read about the lease it amounts to nothing more than South have first rights to use the ground. If they're not using it and hosting a fixture doesn't disrupt a South fixture then it's all good to go. Most of the WU fixtures are on when South aren't playing so there's really no argument that South should force Melbourne Sports Centre trust to turn down income from leasing the venue to WU. We already have Victory youth & women playing there. We already have international teams using it as a training base in the past. Young Socceroos matches.

I actually think exposure of the ground to A League l is a positive for South's chances for eventual inclusion in the A League.

Of course it's true that WU should be forced to get a move on with their own ground as promised but that's not the issue at stake here with them playing fixtures at Lakeside.

What a cluster* of a club!

Update on Home Stadium Roster for
2021/22 A-Leagues Men season

Today, Friday 1 October, an outcome was
reached by APL and Western United in reference to our home ground stadium roster for the 2021/22 A-Leagues Men season.

Greg O’Rourke, A-Leagues Commissioner said:

“Following last week’s partial fixture release, the two Western United games originally scheduled at Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium will now be played at AAMI Park.

“Matches that were originally intended to be scheduled at Lakeside for the remainder of the 2021/22 season will also now be played at AAMI Park.

“This decision has been made following a continued consultation process between the A-Leagues, State government, Western United FC and South Melbourne FC.

“With a small number of rectangular stadiums available in Melbourne that meet the standards for an A-Leagues broadcast, and the delayed start to the season as a result of COVID-restrictions further limiting the available options, this is the most suitable interim solution as Western United work towards delivering their home stadium in Melbourne’s West.”

Chris Pehlivanis, CEO Western United said:

“Following the A-Leagues’ due diligence process, we had agreed dates and entered into the contract process with the State Sports Centres Trust to play the games published in last week's fixture announcements for the 2021-22 season.

“Having undertaken further consultation and collaboration with State Sports Centres Trust, South Melbourne FC, and the A-Leagues, the decision has been made to replace Lakeside Stadium with AAMI Park on our home stadium schedule for the 2021/22 season.”

Oh my god, what a shitshow.

Peak Nomads United though, announcing it before they'd done the due diligence and realising they couldn't use it. Yet more embarrassment for this cluster*.

That is a long term lease. But Im suprised with the change of language between them as an expansion bid (Being the owners of the ground), and now being upset there oval is being used by an aleague club (essentially a long-term tenant). My assumption was that they would of atleast be responsible for running the ground (and full rights to any commercialisation of the facility), such an odd situation.

All bids have some spin attached. Just look at Western United's bid.

Hard to say what the leasing agreement contains, and whether or not they are entitled to a slice of the game day takings.

Just relocate Western United to Geelong or Ballarat. It's where they belong, not playing Lakeside.

Far out. Lakeside Stadium doesn't need exposure.

I suppose at the end of the day, the club is pissed off that this team that was included in the A-league on many promises (and at the continued exclusion of Hellas), most of which they will never keep. Now they want to use 'our' home.

All sentiments I agree with but that's got nothing to do with their use of the ground. Its a publicly funded venue, of course MSC will be hiring it for use. Same as AAMI park. Same as the 'G, many footy fans have the same attitude you have towards soccer matches hosted there.

It may be Souths home but its also a publicly funded venue and it is the job of MSC to maximise the return on it. IMO it's incredibly small time to make a fuss about it.

MSC's only duty is to ensure that SMFC arent inconvenienced by it (they arent when WU are hosting games).

If SMFC wants a home ground for exclusive use I suggest go ahead and buuld a ground like Knights did.

I suppose we've never treated our ground as a 'venue' but rather our home. It's not as if we've played there for 5 years. We started in the precinct in 59. 95/96 when we lost Middle Park Stadium to some car race. Oly Park for one year then Bob Jane.

Now, when Western United wanted to play six games at AAMI Park in 2020??

A bitter turf war has broken out between the three Melbourne A-League clubs over the use of AAMI Park just weeks before the new season is due to kick off.
Western United, who are entering their second season, want to play six matches at the stadium. Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City, who share the ground with Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Rebels, are set against the proposal.

Nobody disagrees with the sentiment. AAMI park is a taxpayer funded venue and yeah I dont want WU playing there but they did because it maximised commercial income return on the venue.

The ground will remain SMFC's home. WU playing games there wont change that. Just like Victory youth & womens games already being played there dont change that.

I guess South can attempt legal action to prevent the games happening but good luck finding a judge that will hear the case.

Doesn't matter anymore. The games will be played at aami.

Imo playing at lakeside would of been the best option for everyone.

They're definitely gypsies. Obviously some allowance for the pandemic has to be given but really WU starting today should have a 2 year timeline for finishing their stadium.

Its not like he couldn't continue to be a pro footballer and also model at the same time.
Wouldn't be suprised if wsw said it's one or the other. Would take a lot of time to manage both, nay of had to leave training early because of a photo shot.

Dunno if there are videos but he left Newcastle probably 3-4 years ago to try his hand at rapping.
Accroding to wiki it was August 2019 when he took the career break. Came back last season (October 2020) and signed with the roar (Newcastle weren't very pleased). JOWIC is his stage name.

Macarthur FC Captain Adam Federici has announced his retirement from football due to injury before the commencement of the 2021/22 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

The 6-foot-2 shot-stopper is hanging up the boots after a successful career, appearing in over 280 matches across the English Premier and Championship Leagues and having featured in the 28 matches of the Bulls’ inaugural season.

In just his first appearance in the A-League, Federici made the equal most saves and was also featured as part of the Best XI in FIFA 21.

Federici departed his home soil at the age of 17 to pursue his football career overseas beginning his career with Wolverhampton Wanderers, before moving to Torres in Serie C1. After short stints with Wanderers and Torres, Federici returned to England, suiting up for 11 seasons with Reading.

Regarded as one of the best keepers to have played for Berkshire-based Reading, Federici starred in the clubs League One campaign in 2006/07, gaining promotion back into the Premier League.

After linking with Premier League side AFC Bournemouth in 2015, Federici eventually agreed to terms with Stoke City in the Championship.

Wearing the gloves for the U/23’s national side at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, Federici has amassed 16 national caps for the Socceroos since debuting against Uruguay in June 2007. The NSW south-coast product would also go on to represent Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

One of the most well remarked goalkeepers in the A-League 2020/21 season, Federici’s knowledge and experience will not be lost to the game, with the keeper continuing to link with the Bulls in some capacity in the future.

Looking back on his career, Federici said “I have been so fortunate to have the career I’ve had. While I would’ve love to lead the Bulls this season, my body is in a different position and cannot continue. Through my journey I have played with wonderful coaches, players and clubs and I’m grateful that I got to finish my career on my home turf.

“I am honoured to have been able to represent Australia and my time with the national team will stay fondly in my memories forever. For now, my focus is to work on recovery, but I look forward to what the game has in store for me going forward.”

Macarthur FC Head Coach Ante Milicic said it’s been an honour having Adam be part of the club from the beginning.

We’re very thankful for Adam joining us in our inaugural season. The fact that we could attract one of the best Australian goalkeepers was a great honour. To have someone of his calibre and experience in our inaugural season was a privilege.

“He was to be our captain this season but unfortunately due to injuries he has decided to retire.

“Adam has been an outstanding leader in the club, and we thank him for all his efforts. He has played a large role in shaping the club’s values and culture from the beginning and I am extremely proud of his journey so far with the Bulls.

“He has been a great role model for the younger players in the squad, having shared his experience and knowledge with them. It’s a sad day for Bulls fans knowing Adam won’t be part of the squad this season, but as a club we will help and support him through his rehab and continue the relationship built to extend in some way in the future.”
