A New Pope

I thought it was always a pretty big thing, doesn't happen too often. I am a Mick however so always take notice.

When Paul VI died for some reason I became fascinated by the Pope and I have a scrap book from that period which my folks helped me make covering JPI, his death JPII and it ends around the time he was shot. I dug it out the other day, little kids are weird. It probably helped that there was a bit going on to keep my interest.

I still think of Pope John Paul II as being the real Pope, he is the first Pope I remember and he is the second longest serving Pope.

It's kind of like how I still think of Tom Baker as being the real Dr Who and all the other ones that came after him are imposters.

I wasn't the only one that thought of Uncle Leo when the new Pope was named Leo.

This new American Pope speaks fluent Italian, he must come from Brooklyn or New Jersey.

It turns out he is from Chicago.

Multi lingual I hear. Naturalised Peruvian so can probably speak fluent Spanish too.

Yeah he can speak Spanish fluently too, that's pretty impressive and no doubt one of the reasons he got the gig as the Pope.

I lived in Belgium for a while where even some kids there could speak 3 or 4 languages, Dutch, French, German and English.

Makes you feel like a dumbarse when you can only speak English, I learnt Japanese at school but I was nowhere near fluent.

My mate's kids go to a primary school where from prep they learn two days a week in French so by the time they leave the idea is to have them thinking in the language.
