Doesnt account for Geelong's medicore crowds (23302, 23007 and 25429 today in a venue that now accomdates what 34000?), membership (50k yet?) and revenue (50m yet?)
Geelong has won 3 flags in the time Hawthorn has won 4 flags and yet Hawthorn dwarf them in crowds (for example 42977 and 45796 for MCG games against the Crows and Eagles this year), membership (73k), revenue ($70m) and net assets ($40m plus). Pehaps the Cats should replace Hawthorn in Tasmania / NZ like North and St Kilda?
Geelong's two Melbourne based games have been against Hawthorn (74210) and Essendon (42723)
Geelong has had a negative cash flow position for 2 years. Given the terms of its Kardina Park lease it provides contribution (albeit modest) to the redevelopment of an asset that it will never realise. Then there is Armstrong Creek...
I'm not sure what the capacity is ATM, but as others have already pointed out that figure should be reconsidered.
Geelong makes more profit on smaller than many Melbourne clubs.
Hawthorn may have a bigger revenue and membership, but how big will the drop be when they stop winning matches.
As for Geelong taking games on the road. I personally believe in every Victorian team playing at least one home game away in order to grow the game.
Geelong's negative cash flow is largely attributed to stadium development.
Hawthorn is safe for now, but it should its numbers drop as the position on the ladder drops there will be very serious questions. Though St kilda is the number one team in my view to be relocated.
