For those who own it, was it produced by madman entertainment and, if so, were you underwhelmed?

As a GFC fan, I can compare the 2022 DVD to '07, '09, '11 - all three of which had excellent video quality and up to five alternate commentaries.

This year? Ugh. The picture quality looks like a kayo stream (e.g. low frames per second so the play does not progress smoothly) and has half the usual alternate commentaries.

It's the picture quality that annoys me most, though. Nothing to do with the original broadcast, just the frame rate that madman transferred things at.

It's pretty meh.

I wish the season recap feature, was done more like tradintinal team season highlight videos like Dynamic demons and Demon attack ect. I got bored of Jack and Nat just talking about the season with some recap here and there

I dont know,i masturbated to that disc more than any of my dads porno tapes that were stashed in his secret hiding spots back in the day!!

The bluray is fine imo. I don't know why the DVD format still exists. It's never going to look good on modern TV's regardless of who made it. I'm pretty sure there were at least 4 different commentary options, maybe 5? It's a bit clunky. I remember finding it difficult to change the commentary options. Regardless, it should be better than what it is. It's always rushed out after the GF. I'd love to see interviews, post game celebrations, in game commentary from players and supporters etc. I'd happily pay more for better content. It's just always a rushed product to cash in on those celebration vibes post game.

Never bought it as these days its just as easy to keep a high quality digital version on my hard drive. Think someone from this board even made a bunch where they synced a bunch of commentaries up within a couple of weeks of the game.

Your dad must have had some career in pr0n!

He had some amazing tapes back in the day! Always had to rewind them after watching so he didn't bust me. Was the most nervous wait watching that tape rewind hoping it didn't chew in the player. Kids of today will never know how hard we had to work to get a glimpse of a boob back in the day. Too easy these days.

I got the DVD for Christmas 2021 but only opened it up and watched it for the first time 3 days ago, (I’ve watched the game through Kayo many times though) and yes I was completely underwhelmed by it. My Kayo quality seems fine but this DVD was shocking, the picture quality was terrible, not HD, it was watching a game in the 90’s, and I thought the DVD would have the pre-match and half time entertainment on it so I could experience the whole event again but it didn’t. Wasn’t enjoying it at all until about halfway through the 3rd quarter and then it was alright.

The dvds were decent quality up until 2013 and they slowly started going down hill. 2015s dvd looked like the players were playing under water! That's how bad the video quality was (at least the bluray was decent!).
At least you have a few options, we have about 10 minute footage of our previous premiership 🙃

Basically, we're all thankful that BG32 downloads every Melbourne game and gave us 8 different commentaries for the Grand Final.
Thanks, guys, for confirming all this. It's a sad state of affairs when the dvd of the 1966 Grand Final has a better frame rate than those of recent years.

And yes, thank god for those who synch up the audio on hq versions of the game.

I presume you guys know that the TV (not newsreel) footage of the final moments of '64 is out there?

Either way, well done on '21 (and thanks for the Prelim - it was what we needed).
