Hopefully someone speaks out against this at the member's forum although if my experience at AGMs is any guide the only complaint will be along the lines of...

"Why not a grizzly bear instead of a lion? It's always about Fitzroy isn't it! What about the Brisbane Bears fans!!!!"
They could bring in a live gorilla for the heritage game...

This sounds like a great idea which might have been acceptable decades ago. Being the state of Queensland I guess it remains a possibility of happening.

I hope the club uses this publicity stunt to positively affect its brand identity. Right now it has a fantastic opportunity to associate itself with a African Lion related cause and declare its support for the conservation of these endangered animals. It should also make it clear to the wider public (not just members who understand its all for PR) that there was no intention or parading the Lion around. Would be a fantastic way to stamp ourselves as an 'ethical organisation' while we have the Australian spotlight.

I think this could give us a huge positive exposure. At the moment, while we are generating a lot of media spotlight and are 'trending' it is under controversial circumstances.

Your move Brisbane.

Qld stuck in the past humour - oh snap

The fact that the Brisbane Lions made the nine news on the eve of the finals certainly achieved the desired result, that is, the club is front and centre, even if if there was never any intention to actually have a lion at games.

The reason the reserves won't be on before is due to the ground and also the fact that it doesn't bring in any new fans. The club knows only the diehards will really care if they are on and they will be turning up anyway.

As tacky as it may be entertainment is what we need to draw in more families/kids. I'm not hugely enthused on having a lion parade around but I like how much discussion it has generated. Looking forward to seeing what we actually do now as I'm convinced this suggestion was a Swann troll.
Swann announced tonight that they already have permission for more reserves games at the Gabba next year.
Some fresh ideas in the place probably include looking after the existing membership/support better.

Whether this was a deliberate attempt by our Club to create a bit of publicity (more likely) or the leaking of an 'out there' thought bubble (still possible), it doesn't really mean anything to me either way.

But I have to say the whole episode crystallizes my perception that there seems to be a hell of a lot animal-rights supporters these days that are so self-righteous and obnoxious that they do their cause a huge disservice. They come across as such black and white extremists that surely puts many ordinary people off.

Anyone remember the Lions park just outside Beenleigh?

I remember going through in a brown Kingswood station wagon as a kid. For some reason I thought it was down near Tugun or even something to do with Magic Mountain...

The one at Virginia, north of Adelaide, had the prices sign famously graffitied with "Poms on pushbikes free".

Near Yatala. I recall going there with my folks in the mid 70's. I think they had a Kingswood station wagon as well. Good one on Magic Mountain though:thumbsu:. Forgotten about that. As kids it was a ride down the coast via Labrador and onto the porpoise pool on the border. Stopped at Currumbin bird sanctury as well. (I took my ageing mum for a trip down to the beach at Currumbin 6 months back and it sure had the childhood memories running wild.) Traffic jams on the way back though the queue where the highway went straight through that old crim Hinzes drive in bottlo was the cause of that my old man used to joke.

I'm pissed off that there will be no lion to be honest. Could they have the lion outside the Gabba in a bigger enclosure?
