We're at 3pm in my opinion. 2012-2013 was our big opportunity - whilst Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Betts, McLean etc should have been in their prime. As it turns out, for various reasons, all of those bar Judd & Betts were not (though Murphy 2012 was pretty dang good). I'd actually prefer if we continued to turn over the list just like the end of 2013, and brought on some of these talented kids we have. I'd love a high draft pick spent on a forward so they can develop whilst our list is turned over. I think we need to draft the KPP first, because they really do need 2-3 years more in the system than midfielders.

2012 was probably our year but it wasn't to be.

We peaked in 2011.

Time to redevelop & remould the list for the next shot. And that doesn't mean bottom out if certain posters are reading this. It simply means weeding out who is not going to cut it & replace them with fresh faces - kids or recruits from other clubs.

I've never understood the notion of a premiership clock or window. For mine it is nothing more than simplistic garbage pulled out by the media every so often to try and generate discussion.

Things can change very quickly at AFL level. Clubs who bring in good operators can change their fortunes around very, very quickly. Look at Port Adelaide as a prime example. 15 months ago they were nothing short of a complete and utter basket case, considered by most to be miles off their next premiership assault. If you had to equate that to a clock, they'd be the broken hand that has fallen off. Now, they're not without a chance of finishing in the top 4.

Conversely, things can fall away pretty quickly for clubs that make a few poor errors in judgement. Brisbane is probably the best recent example of this. They were a decent side when Voss decided to go all out on the trade table, and we know how that panned out. Now they seem a mile off it. Collingwood is another example - just 4 years ago they were premiers, with an incredibly young list, and now they're fighting it out with a number of other clubs just to feature in the finals.

Well run clubs have in the past and now continue to smash the premiership clock theory to smithereens. For how many years have people declared that this is the year Geelong are finally going to fall? Sydney and arguably Hawthorn are other examples of clubs who, if the premiership clock theory is to be believed, probably should no longer be in contention.

TL;DR - A "realistic premiership clock" doesn't exist. It is an oxymoron.

I would prefer the premiership clock to look like the Dominos clock where the clock tells you what phase you are in.

I guess the real question is if our clock isn't working is our premiership window open or is it half closed, shut or firmly locked?

I disagree with the concept of a premiership clock as it has come to be portrayed, however I believe there is a distinction to that and a 'window', which to me is the period (or span of seasons) a team has geared itself for an optimum tilt at a premiership.

I would expect teams vying for success for the most part would establish a window for themselves to align as many facets as possible to the required level (i.e. age, experience, talent, structure, game plan etc.), or at least they should be. That's not to say a premiership can only be won within that window, nor does a window always lead to a realistic premiership tilt, but I think the notion exists.

I have no doubt when we recruited Judd we set ourselves a window which I believe has now passed. The issue I have with the club is I am not convinced we have moved past this failed window and set a new (realistic) window, and therefore aren't necessarily optimising our future prospects whenever that may be.

sadly it feels at times as though our clock has stopped sonewhere between 6 and 8 with a flat battery.

One with no hands...

I think Carlton people need to stop stressing about a flag, I know its been a long time between drinks but you may as well just rebuild under Mick now that you have him and just be patient he will deliver for you guys. You guys are scared to lose and are in a rush for a flag and the truth is imo you need to blood your youngsters hard and fast this is the only way. Im a mad collingwood man and ppl will always pay out on us no matter what we do,since 2010 but ppl look at us now and say geez they have gone backwards since 2010 but im a realistic collingwood person who sees it a different way....we are blooding soo many youngsters to get them ready for an assault on a flag in the next couple years that ppl dont notice this and keep talking about 2010. We have a heap of youngsters with a handful of games under the belt that will keep us in good stead a year or two from now. Bucks will talk about going for a flag now but thats all member talk crap so the Collingwood ppl eat it up to keep them keen but when you have blokes like frost and langdon who arent superstars and you can entrust them to hold your backline up against a sydney team it shows that you believe in youth. Have faith in the youngens is all im saying. You have some beauty's in cripps and menzel. Fortunes can change very fast with FA now 1 or 2 good pickups and a couple good draft picks and your back in the running is all it takes.
