Care to take a stab at the 3 Premier GF fieldies and, more importantly, 2 goalies, O.T.P?

Not really, it would be sour grapes. Going down with pneumonia and missing a game killed my fitness and possibly cost me the B, so I am happy with the C medal. Good luck to whoever gets announced tomorrow night.

OH, you mean take a guess at who they will be? Right.

Davidson, Sutcliffe, Monty; Evans and Dower.

Having said that, it all depends on how the men hiding behind trees and poring over the video of the last couple of weeks determine things. It comes down to luck sometimes; if I'd been observed in the busy first half of the second semi instead of the second when nothing was happening, it might have been different!

I certainly wasn't taking a shot. Thanks for the insight.

You're clearly much better placed than I am but here goes. From the Premier A games I saw Sutcliffe is a lock, Wardrop and Koffman would be the others. Two years ago Koffman was ordinary IMHO – his improvement in fitness and technique in the meantime have been significant. I suspect Rusty Davidson will get his spot though.

Clayton Evans and Stephen Dower were the goal umpire standouts. Especially in the area of speed and agility, but in the other two key areas of positioning and decision making too.

Liked the 'behind trees' bit. I reckon you could see Bernie tree or no tree.:D

Hmm, ever heard of Kris Barlow, Mark Graham, Dom Berry? I could go on and on but won't.
Dont ever remember Kris Barlow at the Xavs, and Graham was there for 2 years, he was 33y/o and his body packed it in and retired half way through the year. Hardly someone walking out.

Adrian Cox is another. I think you would be able to find such examples at just about every club. It is a pointless exercise.
Cox was given a job through a Xavs connection in real estate, i believe was transferred to a different location, and found it difficult to get to training and play games. Left to play in the eastern league for pure convenience and work.

Congratulations to hard at it, in and under De La Salle midfielder Aaron "Shieldsy" Shields. A very worthy and gracious winner of the 2010 Woodrow Medal.

Does anyone know who the placings were???

Adrian Cox stitched the Xavvers up, which was very poor form at the time, but not a loss to OX by any means, so I wouldn't be sticking up for him. Heebie played well for 2 years, which is about the average you get from an ex AFL player before they realise that they should give it up, although he did reappear down in D2 at Bentleigh.
Dom Berry, now he is a classic case that changed the rules of the VAFA back in the day, Ill leave it to you Mac to ask around the club what happened with him!

Do tell Briza....

Well Ammo Man, we were both half right.

Premier Umpires 2010:
Field: Russell Davidson, Merv Monty, Grant Wardrop
Boundary: Charlie Blanch, David McNamara
Goal: Stephen Dower, Clayton Evans

Congratulations to the guys, and if Steve or Clayton break a leg, I'll already be at the ground with my gear as I'm doing the thirds at 9.20.

Thanks for the spot-on advance info, OTP

Stephen and Clayton were the stand outs. Congrats particularly to Stephen for his first "A" (Premier) GF. I hope he tries out for the Development Squad next year as he has the makings. The big surprise is Tim Sutcliffe missing the big one. He was the best performed ump I saw this year. Didn't come across Merv Monty though.

Sorry that Stephen has no further ambition. He was considered a possible elite candidate when he was a kid with the MPNFL. His dedication must have fallen away or other interests taken over.

Good to see Kyrkou try his luck. Has a fair way to go in technique and fitness IMHO. Let's hope he does some work on the latter before he hits the Nth Melb oval next year.

I heard your incoming Prez say one of his aims was to work on recruiting more goalies next year - lets hope he has a plan. Notice three female goalies umpiring in the SFL Grand Finals.;)

Totally surprised to see Tim Sutcliffe only doing Premier B and not Premier this Sunday. After all, Tim Sutcliffe, Russell Davidson & Grant Wardrop are clearly the best 3 umpires in the VAFA for 2010.

Can we please get back to the footy guys! Because i know the umpires (shouldnt) have any influence on the game so who cares whos bouncing the ball.

OX Too big and strong, will win by 16 points. Biddlecombse BOG

Old Xaverians been there, done that. Should notch up yet another premiership for the Red and Black Army.

Xavs by 5 goals.

Rested and fresh Violet Crumbles in a canter.

I am tad bias but Collegians will get the chocolates. Two tough games two weeks in a row for OX will they have enough freshness in the legs for a 3rd week of a hard slog and sh*t conditions at EP?

It is going to be a cracker of a game...

Amazing how you guys seem to write off Old Xaverians. You'll probably regret tipping Collegians, seeing that Old Xavs know how to win grand finals. There's an old saying in VAFA footy: Never tip against Old Xavs in grand finals.

Probably will, on the flip side, will Collegians have too much fresh legs, 2 games in a month is a long time being away from consistent contested footy. Concerning run into the GF more-so than the road the Xavs took. You can not beat match fitness.

Lions by 15 points.
Blumfield BOG, Taft 5 cheeky majors including the sealer.

Cmon frase, you don't really think Sura will get a kick under pressure - the leon davis of the vafa - downhill skier who fails under the heat of finals. cant even claim the hottest wag in the comp any more !

OMFG - Did the Lions win the toss and kick into the wind?

Never give the otherside the momentum. All most impossible to run a team down in the last term of a GF.

Old Xavs win the grand final, how good is this club

Consider Old Xaverians record in VAFA A Section/Premier football:

  • This is Old Xaverians 11th A Section/Premier premiership (first one won in 1981)
  • Old Xaverians have won 10 of the 15 A Section/Premier Grand Finals since 1995
