All the blokes who left are the ones that have caused the club to choke over the last 5 years,good luck if they go to any other A club.

OS have recruited former Corowa and Noble Park player, Robbie Ferraro, for 2010. Got him a job.

Who have De La recuited, bigman31? Need a couple of forwards to replace Mannix and Corin. Hard to beat Xavs without any dominant forwards. Remember, they only kicked three goals to three quater time before xavs let them in.

First of all, you incorrectly quoted me. Secondly, no-one doubts that Xavs almost stuffed it. They held the ball in and stopped attacking. This allowed De La back in the contest.

De La are a better team than they were a couple years ago, but they are still a fair bit off. Their attacking style of football and play on at all costs game plan, comes unstuck in pressure games because their foot skills coming through the middle are below average.

I think this is their true weakness...

De La are a good solid side. their run and carry game is impressive on its day.

unforunately it is hard to win on big grounds (Elst) in high pressure games (finals) when 20 of your 22 is below 5 foot 8 inches. They seem to only kick the ball if they have no other option..I can only put this down to 2 reasons - they have bad foot skills and they have little confidence in their talls up fwd. I think it's a mixture of both.

How can De La improve if they don't kick more and don't have any talls to kick to?

you have to have a get out option when under pressure. xavs with Lynch and Handley can rely on them for a solid contest, backing them to never lose a contest. collegians the same with Watts and Dixon.

i think teams will just smother their run this year, forcing them to kick to contests.. Could things come unstuck completely??

Considering the game plan has not changed since the late 80's down at De La you think teams would have worked it out by now. Obviously the have not.

Not sure about the foot skills aspect as they were one of the highest scoring teams in "A" section last year. Regardless of the run and carry you still need to kick it into the forward line to score.

Their is no point talking up teams in Feb, everyone is training well and has apparently recruited well - Lets just wait till round 1.

1. De La – good young side who seem to have endless depth coming up through the ranks. Will look to go one better in 2010 but anything can happen come finals time.
2. Uni – model of consistency, expect them to be there or thereabouts in 2010. Well coached, good list, pretty good formula for mine.
3. OMs – will be the surprise packet of 2010. Have lost a couple from B Section premiership of 2009, but have more than replaced them with quality ex-AFL and ex-VFL recruits. 4 premierships in 2009, depth will not be a worry.
4. Ox – always there. Have lost a few good ones but always seem to replace. Just wonder if the desire is there with this group to go all the way after so much premiership success.
5. OB – lost a few but quality coaching staff should stop the rot. Rebuilding year in 2010, might start slow but look to come home strongly.
6. St.B – from all reports have lost a few for the second year in a row. Very hard to beat on home soil but will only finish mid-table in 2010.
7. OS – mass exodus, only time will tell if these players have the courage of their convictions. Unrest with the coach, dissention among the ranks will plague this perennial mid-table club.
8. OC – their time in the sun has come to an end. Aging list will struggle in 2010 and could be a chance for relegation. Will most likely stay up though.
9. OT – will give it a red-hot crack but will feature in another A Section relegation battle in 2010. Not sure things will go their way, rely too heavily on Rambo and Cults – not sure what their movements are.
10.Marc – great effort to stay up last year. They will find OMs and OTs stronger than last year’s relegated in OEG and OI. A return to B-Grade won’t be the worst thing for them.

Number 8 is way off the mark.

Collegians senior team will have probably 1 player over 30 if memory serves me correct (I believe that may be A.Baxter), which is similar to last year, apart from Arnott getting itchy feet and playing 5 games at the start of the season.

Unless there are some older new recruits down there this year, which i am unaware of.

Would have thought its a valid point mate. Despite winning five flags in the "noughties", Xavs never went back to back.

Also if you read my post, I said that was the ladder up to round 18. Never said the Xavs won't win it from fourth.

However, who are the big name recruits. Now that pre-season has begun officially, surely there are some recruits actually training worth noting.

Hey Riverman,i agree with you as to where Scotch will finish,but you are way of the mark about the coach.


The players really like the coach,so pushing that barrow about him is way of the mark.

The only issue there has been the Ex Afl blokes and 2 players who have gone to other clubs who thought that they could just turn up to play and not train.

U ask all the young blokes at the club and they were really pissed of with a few of those blokes last year as socially they didnt give a crack and were never at the club when it counted

Scotch will be better of this year without those blokes as they didnt care.

However, who are the big name recruits. Now that pre-season has begun officially, surely there are some recruits actually training worth noting.

Don't get me wrong, i couldn't have more respect for the Xavs and what they have achieved. Recent history does show though that they don't perform as well when winning the flag the previous year. That is the only reason I had them finishing fourth. Come finals time though, it would be a brave man to punt aganist them.

In terms of their record from the 90's, few if any of those players still going around and therefore not relevant.

Anyway, lets move on.

do they have many quality young players however? they have lost a few core guys from the middle age bracket, they really need a lot of improvement in that list to go anywhere near the top 4.

Agree with that, OS will struggle to make an impact this year. But to say the place is no good or players hate the coach is rubbish.

A few have left because they didn't play seniors last year - in a year when they had to play plenty - they will keep developing and try to do that in A Grade.

They are mostly all school kids playing U 19 that had an affiliated TAC/VFL/Junior Club. Lots of retiring players.
