Don't be surprised to see Old Xaverians be in yet another Premier Grand Final next year. So strong is Xavs, I wouldn't be suprised if Xavs win in 2011: Premier (Seniors), Premier Reserves, Premier Thirds, Under 19 Premier. What odds of an Old Xaverians 'Grand Slam'?

I doubt Xavs will win the reserves.

Today UB won their 3rd Flag in a row. 24 points down with less than 8 minutes left.

One of the best games I've ever seen.

Consider Old Xaverians record in VAFA A Section/Premier football:

  • This is Old Xaverians 11th A Section/Premier premiership (first one won in 1981)
  • Old Xaverians have won 10 of the 15 A Section/Premier Grand Finals since 1995

Correction: 12th flag, and 11th since '95, including that flag.

Jas put the Xav pom poms down. We all know the are number 1. Maybe a post about the actual game for those not there would be a nice change of pace.

While other clubs might celebrate their flags long and hard...not Old Xaverians. They immediately start planning for the next premiership and possibly recruit any AFL players who has retired to continue their football career with the Xavs. James McDonald could be one ex-AFL player who we might see running around in the red and black at Sportscover Arena in 12 months time.

Isn't the best way to put pressure on via the scoreboard??? I would have thought Goss would have ticked that box???
Stroke of genius??!!!! Hardly! If Smith or Rush kicked plenty then maybe!!!!
Kids have left footy clubs for far softer reasons than being dropped from the Seniors for a final. Particularly when they have been one of the top performers in recent weeks. Far from an idiotic observation!
Good luck to Xavs if they choose not to pick him...one thing I'm sure on is there will be even more talk at the bar downstairs at HQ after the Grand Final about whether he should have played if they get done!!! Plenty questioned it after the prelim over a frothy!

Hope you were questioning it again yesterday Bazza...

Rush proved his selection was warranted - Jorgenson had no influence in the game and the early forward line tag absolutely rattled the Collegians game plan/coaches box.

Its not as easy when you have an opponent on you, and a few loose ribena berries found that out yesterday.

Rush was average, I reckon he only had 4 touches all day but true Jorgenson didn't get much of it either so if Rush was sent out to do that job he did it well.

I don't follow either team but i thought it was decent match, both went hard at it.

Xav's tackled better while Collegians ran the ball better and broke lines. I thought Coll were going to run all over them for a bit in the 2nd Q and start of the 3rd but Xav's hung in as they always do!

All in all not a decent standard and well done to Xav's....again....you pricks..

Confirm the "role" D Rush played on Jorgy. Took all pressure off Rush and placed it firmly on Jorgy, Stone and Ingliss (the tall backs). At one stage I looked up and Stone was pointing at Jorgy and vice versa. Seemed to confuse them a bit as they really do like to free up stone and or jorgy.

Rush's role was instrumental in Xavs winning. Jorgy was rendered useless in comparison to his dominance in the first final. Good coaching by Lathlean.

Collegians will now need to bring through their reserves players as stalwarts like Stone, Watts, Fry, Dixon and Baxter all will not be playing next year. Rumour is Troon is also leaving. Were Collegians reserves any good this year?

Our 2nds have promise, very young team the average age was about 21, what will let us down is size, the 2nds dont have the big bodies like Xavs and substituting the key positions like the Watts, Stone, Dixon and the other back line key runner Baxter and Fry will be difficult. Looking at the squad i doubt they will be able to fill that void.

There is however, some promise with the school boys and under 19's comming through the ranks, if we can retain a large number of them and gain some more, I believe that Collegians will have a few years of struggling but will come through better for it in a few years.

I cant finish without congratulating Dicko, Bax, Fry and Stone for the years of serves you have given to the purple and gold! you are all stars and the real life blood of the collegians.. Well done boys. see you all next year.

I see that De La Salle have advertised for a senior coach. While not yet having the experience or finals hardness of Xavs, they would IMO have the best young talent in the VAFA and indisputably the best and most successful U19’s program. Enormous depth of talent coming through and I reckon applicants would be falling over each other to land this job. Have gone very close the last 2 years but what do they need to reach the next level?

I did notice that DLS is advertising for a new coach. Suggestions?

I hear that OT has decided to appoint its reserves coach as senior coach - I am not sure of his name.

Are OM's still looking? Any news there?

Xavs to have a one year sabbatical...

That's funny. I know that De La played the Red Legs after the 91 Premiership in an exhibition match. Lost by 6 points in the last few seconds.

This pre-season a young half strength de la team played a Casey Scorpions team with 8 or so AFL listed players playing, they lost by 11 points under lights, was a great game to watch actually both teams were very passionate and wanted to win, was a fairly firey and spiteful contest from memory!

There is 3 A-grade teams without coaches. Has anyone got any inside running regarding the respective coaching appointments at Xavs, De La and Old Trinity???

Have heard Lathlean wants to coach again but Xavs have already made an in principle agreement with a highly sought after coach after Lathlean announced he wasn't coaching in 2011.

Any other news.

Incorrect! Jars is moving on because he has to run the AFL and he has billy lids in the oven. You would think the De la job is a beauty. Great club, good list, just need to get them to kick the ball!
