A small gesture by Dimma but says a lot.

As the game ticked down i left the top deck of the members stand at AAMI and went down to the fence next to the race and interchange bench.

Just before the siren there were about 30 of us. As the siren went obviously we went crazy and started singing the song. Dimma walked onto the ground just a few metres and Rohan Smith approached him for an interview. Dimma shook his head and just pointed to the players and then gestured to the cameraman to take a shot of us singing the song.

Pure class.

Thanks for sharing, that's awesome:thumbsu: I love everything about this guy, he's just so different to other coaches, so down to earth - always. Was watching the press conference yesterday on the news with my parents and when DH said "I just can't wait to sing the bloody song to be honest!" my dad an opposition supporter laughed and said, "I like this guy!"

Sooooooooo do I:heart:

That's the thing with Dimma. It's not one bit about him. As opposed to Wallace when it was all about him.

thx for sharing pj, I see alot of snippets that point to dimma having the right values, notice how the first year players were the inner circle during the theme song....I also liked what I read about the players all putting on their jumper in a kind of ritual together before the game, to make it MEAN something...I like it

and naturally foxtel showed a slow motion replay of a throw in

seriously love hearing stuff like this, hardwick was always gonna be a gun coach, congrats on the win, but more importantly, well done on turning a corner (big picture wise)

It is so refreshing to have a decent and honest coach this time round. And, you can just tell he loves football.

Did anyone see Dimma's press conf?
He mentioned that yeah they will celebrate the win but it will be back to business immediately and start focusing on the next game.

This win does feel different. I don't think it's about the coach either, though I love Dimma. It's that I do think we are starting to assemble a side... We're up against it, again, but we've got a couple of likely lads who could do a bit...

Great story Peej :thumbsu:

"Tuesdays with Terry" ... makes me want to be physically ill when i think about it now , and the way he left Richmond in that presser , harking back to his bulldog days ..... i need a drink

Was talking to one of my best mates tonight out east , they had the fuel and timber yard in Boronia for nearly 50 years , fire wood and horse feed etc. real old school :thumbsu::p... anywayz ... Dimmas old man used to swing out of Upwey and go in there for fire wood and they ended up being good friends with him ... i asked Baz .. "so what was he like?"

"Hard as nails ... and old school values that are a dying breed" ... "just a no bullshit top bloke"

You can see the apple did not fall far the tree i reckon , and the RFC looks to be all the better for it :thumbsu:

Well done Richmond, and Dimma - a great coach in the making.

Exactly. And the main reason why, at least from my perspective as an outsider, he will be one of the best things to happen to your coaching stocks in the last 15 years. And, something tells me, Dimma won't be going for a media career post coaching.

It is so refreshing to have a decent and honest coach this time round. And, you can just tell he loves football.
The man seems to live and die for footy - I'm sure he actually has lots of interests away from footy, and of course his friends and family are #1, but his attitude and coaching always seems to convey a clear, focused intensity that only comes from a deep passion for our game, but without the histrionics of some of the other "high profile" coaches... And no tanking.

Dimma has to be one of the youngest old school fellas going around in AFL coaching at the moment. Maybe his old man could come on board as the "player welfare and loyalty monitor"??

The relief must be off the dial for Damien and the whole playing group. The amount of pressure from the media etc related to not winning a game, must have been a heavy load to carry into each weeks planning. Now that has been snuffed out, all be it with the community chest card handed to us by the Power and the gods his and the playing groups focus, will improve markedly over the coming weeks.
In horse racing terms, we have been contesting Metropolitan Saturday class races and we were then entered for a Mortlake maiden on a heavy track and won leading all the way, by 4. Back to city class next week. ;)

Wish he was our coach.

Hardwick is a bloody legend.
The old Richmond would have gone after Mark Williams or Sheedy with big bucks and not given Hardwick and Hinkley a second look.

Hopefully this appointment is a combination of learning what to look for in a coach based on our last four woeful appointments.

Williams and Sheedy had thier success and Id feel an idiot giving it to Port after the minor premierships and premiership they have had over this decade.

That we need to identify and grow our own is something that we felt we couldnt do as far back as the early eighties when we suddenly felt that anyone who played a good game against us should be brought to the club on big money.

Absolutely spot on :thumbsu:

Its an inferiority complex that has dogged us.

The inability to back ourselves... "We are shit hence we need to bring in the experts to tell us how to do it"

Its why Matthew Knights is still not at our club ... which he should be but thats another subject .

I rate the whole Casey/Miller/Wallace package the worst period at our club since Raines-Cloke-Wood-Malthouse-Taylor all walked out on us

Can see a mile off that dimma wants no part of the shit and glitter that goes with coaching, it's behind the scenes he does his best work...and when it comes to the spotlight...as PJ described he deftly pointed to where he believed that it should be ...yep, maybe we just might have the right bloke:thumbsu:

Interesting little grab in Hutchys back page BS in the Hun today ...

Said that motorists on Punt. rd. this week got a funny little show as Dimma was seen literally chasing Relton Roberts around the oval . Obviously not happy with his very apparent lack of fitness

I love this shit :thumbsu:

:thumbsu:FUNNY thing about Dimma ... ****ing hated his guts as a footballer at Port - and especially Essendon!!!
Though would have jumped at the chance of him playing for us.
Was that kinda thing where you respect someone but hate them at the same time.
I think it was just the fact he was hard as nails when so many of our guys weren't.
But he's sure a first class act and a breath of fresh air after the forgettable Wallace-era!!!

I agree it is a load off cogg, but i refute the community chest card...some of the injuries sustained throughout the game were directly related to our intensity at the contest...No luck about it...there were other factors that favoured us such as coming off darwin but hey, there are any number of factors that come into play ea week
