A small gesture by Dimma but says a lot.

Interesting little grab in Hutchys back page BS in the Hun today ...

Said that motorists on Punt. rd. this week got a funny little show as Dimma was seen literally chasing Relton Roberts around the oval . Obviously not happy with his very apparent lack of fitness

I love this shit :thumbsu:
Not so obvious Hutchy:cool:

As the game ticked down i left the top deck of the members stand at AAMI and went down to the fence next to the race and interchange bench.

Just before the siren there were about 30 of us. As the siren went obviously we went crazy and started singing the song. Dimma walked onto the ground just a few metres and Rohan Smith approached him for an interview. Dimma shook his head and just pointed to the players and then gestured to the cameraman to take a shot of us singing the song.

Pure class.

It's interesting how Hardwick reacted in that way to a long awaited Tiger win, but not surprising.

I've noticed over the years with Bomber coaching Geelong how he almost never gets over the top with his emotions in any win. Even the GF wins.

He never runs out onto the ground and hugs and kisses the players or gives an interview straight after the match telling the world how hard they have had it.

He's always directing the attention towards the player's efforts rather than his own.

Harvey does the same at Freo when after a big win (eg beating Geelong)
He almost puts people to sleep with his laid-back attitude. It's always about the players and never his own performance.

I reckon it's got alot to do with these three Essendon Premiership players being coached by Sheedy. All would have taken in a bit of Sheedy's reserved approach to being the coach when victory has been achieved.

K.S's scarf waving antics against WC all those years ago is one of the rare moments where he let his hair down and celebrated- for a brief moment..

Hardwick will kinda be the same I think. Deadly serious about winning and improving, always willing to bring up the positives even after a loss, but steps back and points to the playing group when things are going well and the team has achieved something.

Just like Sheeds...:thumbsu:

Hahahaha, sorry to invade but that is just awesome :thumbsu::D

I am predicting a Dockers style rise under Hardwick, loving him as a coach. Living in Perth you hear a lot about the Dockers, and I predicted the Dockers rise this season (something i couldn't convince any Dockers fan i spoke to pre-season). I see the same things in Hardwick. Mark my words..

BAH where abouts was he?? I was working that game, would of hugged him for an unnecessary amount of time if I saw him!
I was working too. Saw him enter gate 9 in the basement carpark, Medallion Club entrance. Just came in on his own. I wanted to have a cuddle but thought it was probably a tad unprofessional.

Hahaha, yeah don't think we're allowed to even look AFL related people in the eye unless they're asking us something. Worst. Rule. Ever.

Great to hear that he was there though:thumbsu:

It's awesome how he acknowledges the player's work effort in the press conference. And, not try to take the credit and make it all about himself (ala Wallace)

It must so encouraging for the young players to hear their coach talk them up in the press conference (after all the negative press). He is the type of coach that the player would just respect and want to learn from. Not sure if Wallace offered that.

I bloody loved reading this.

I reckon he's doing an excellent job. Concentrating on the football and not on the peripheral, hoopla bullshit. Also strikes me as a coach who won't tolerate players taking the piss (eg. Connors). So that's two attributes missing from and what ultimately undid our previous two non-interim coaches (Wallace - Mr. media; Frawley - seemed to have a lack of control).

I also like the way he is able to appear genuine and professional at the same time when interviewed. Just the right amount of unguarded stuff to keep the punters happy, but keeps a lid on his emotions.

Big double thumbs up from me so far.

Although now I think Sheedy has lost the plot lol But I was also thinking that likes of Thompson, Harvey and now Hardwick probably learnt a lot from Kevin Sheedy in regards to coaching, and adopted his style. They all seem to have a similiar approach to the game.

If Hardwick can get Richmond into the finals he will end up becoming a cult hero. Something Wallace tried to do but failed, and now we can't stand him.

I agree it is a load off cogg, but i refute the community chest card...some of the injuries sustained throughout the game were directly related to our intensity at the contest...No luck about it...there were other factors that favoured us such as coming off darwin but hey, there are any number of factors that come into play ea week
no one said it was luck in the strict sense of the word dude. The bottom line was that they were going in with a depleted line up that was depleted even more during the game. Add to that the darwin trip, the conditions etc and for me the stars aligned in our favour for once and we got the monkey off our backs. What is real impressive IMO is the scoreline. A struggling spoon fav would most likely have fallen over the line in a cliff hanger, even with the luxury of playing against a depleted line up. We not only arse ripped them, but we kicked a ****ing decent score considering the conditions and the one stat that goes unnoticed is the number of scoring shots....like teams dont do that in those types of conditions.
Now for the next test, next friday night. All i want is for the tigers to bring their game and we will we go close. i am not kidding...apart from the cats the rest of the comp is wallowing and are beatable on a given day, IF THE TIGES BRING THEIR GAME. one thing i am ****ing spewing on is that Dan Connors has another week to go...Would have been real interesting having him and lids across HB pumping in the laser beams into our FL as it stands now. ;)

I have to admit I was a little ignorant of Hardwick the person and the coach when we were conducting 'the process' and expressed my preference for Hinkley (mainly because Hinkley had coached his own team and Dimma hadn't, and Hinkley was intimately involved with Geelong's greatness - and maybe a bit because other clubs had passed him over) but I could not be happier with this bloke. I thought (I don't know why, it was just a feeling) that he might not have the brains to be a great coach and tactically (i.e. match day) he is yet to be tested but strategically (big picture) he has been spot on. Not only is he incredibly genuine and likeable and a player's man, but he's prepared to make the tough calls and demand a standard. As claw says, the test will come at the end of the year, but I haven't felt this good about a Tiger coach since Swooper.

The other thing is the players obviously love him and are playing for him and that should not be underestimated. Tough love is good love if it makes you better. If anyone can get the best out of the likes of Connors and Morton I think it's Dimma.

Couldn't resist joining in the Dimma love- my initial impression was that he'd be really earnest and a little dull but I love his pressers- the recent one where he asked the room how many games we'd lost and when someone said 9 he said "God that's depressing" and then went onto say how upbeat we were.

I was watching the coaching panel before the Essendon game and there really seemed to be a good spirit. I also loved him joining in the inner circle of blokes who hadn't sung the song after the win. Is he the most loved 1-9 coach in the history of the game?

That was awesome when he asked the journos how many games we have lost, and he still had a smile lol
