Weird poll. Very different players.

Swallow is a gun but surely you'd rather Cyril. Those of you that are saying he's soft and all of that have no clue.

Swallow might lead the league in tackles, but that doesn't make him a better tackler.

I reckon North would trade AS for CR in a heartbeat.

As I said above, Swallow is a gun with his best football ahead of him, but Cyril Rioli is the better player.

Not sure about that. We have plenty of inside players that could cover the loss of Swallow. What we do lack is midfielders with great pace and skill. Obviously would never happen and I'm almost certain Swallow would have greater leadership qualities. Question was who's the better player though.

Swallow gets more of the ball and more tackles. However Rioli averaged 2 goal contributions to Swallow's 1.4 this season. I think if Rioli had an injury free year with a full pre-season he could dominate in the midfield. Until he's done that I think you have to go with Swallow.

Rioli isn't even a midfielder yet. He plays most of his footy up forward. Rioli is one of if not the best tackler in the league. He may not have had the totals that Swallow had but that might be because he is mainly a forward and was injured at the start of the year. When Rioli is around the ball, he strikes fear into the heart of the opposition. I would like to know what percentage of his tackles end up being free kicks.

He's not. He is a serious talent and I'd back him to win a contest against anyone.

Swallow is already one of the best ball winners (ie: contested) in the league and is only 23. He is a best and fairest winner and came second this year. He is a top 20 midfielder in the AFL and will be a top 10 this year no doubt in my mind. His ball use and skills in close is sublime and his kicking has improved.

He nearly kicked as many goals as Cyril this year. Which is amazing.

I'd back Cyril to be better, but right now Swallow is the better footballer.

Hodge, Bartel, Goddard, Judd et al would all beat Swallow in a contest. He's a great young footballer - with his best footy in front of him - but there are plenty like him, and many better than him.

He might have had a better 09 than Griffen but not this season. Griffen just won the b and a f of a top 4 team and was our best finals player

They are different players.

Swallow is in amongst it, Rioli is outside.

Rioli has more speed, is more nimble, better tackler, more dangerous around goal. See its easy to play that game. Both will have better characteristics than the other.

As 'all round' players they are pretty even, i guess it depends on what you need at your club. Both have come on well & will be/are stars next year & beyond.
