It's kinda stunning how people on both sides of the Liberal/Labor divide (me included) once saw Turnbull as an lay down misere outstanding leader in waiting. The reality has been so, so far removed from that. They're absolutely nowhere and their only legacy so far appears to be a circus of a senate and the re-rise of One Nation.

I think people are skeptical of strong leaders calling for new change. Old change like shutting up borders is ok for some but most don't like change to something new. So we've got two leaders like Shorten and Turnbull.

As evidence disproves a lot of "common sense" thinking there is a major push back from people who consider themselves practical thinkers. Nobody likes being told their intuition is wrong, that their years of knowledge based on anecdotal experience is invalid and they are just looking for whatever they can find to reinforce their confirmation bias. Unfortunately we're going to go through a cycle where the right wing authoritarians scare the developed nations back into a period of enlightenment, but it sucks so bad that they will need the power to **** up terribly in the first place.

I read this as ...
"right wing authoritarians" (the theocratic right wing Islamic invaders aiming for a Sharia compliant Caliphate)
"scare the developed nations" (the once classical liberal societies who have realised that they are in a massively bad place after many years of cultural danegeld and look at where the future would have taken them if something drastic doesn't happen)
"back into a period of enlightenment" (where they realise that the freedoms that they claim to cherish are incompatible with a cultural/religious/political/expansionist/intolerant force that has been their foe for almost 1000 years)
"but it sucks so bad that they will need the power to **** up terribly in the first place." (but things have gotten so bad that it needs a surgeon not a course of antibiotics and that same power that would be needed in order to remove the cancer could equally be used on the patient and so you hope that those people use their power wisely/for good as opposed to the current 'doctors' who are upping the dossage of cancerous materials)

However since you described yourself a page or so back as a 'raging leftie' I am guessing that is not how you meant it?

I read this post as a sign you should stop reading News Limited papers.

It's okay everyone Pauline is going to make Queensland great again! I for one welcome our new ginger overlord....do you?

How quickly everyone has forgotten about her own criminal past. What is it with gingers and their ability to bounce back from everything.

Also people have quickly forgotten how the One Nation party blew itself apart after the 1998 Queensland state election and did precisely nothing for anybody.
At least they're getting in early this time and started sacking candidates before the election. Even recruited an LNP member so they can draw on their experience of eating their own. #bantheburkes

Technically this all came about because Hanson was sacked as a candidate before the election too. Full circle.

I get the names mixed up, but I find the full black garb that shows only the eyes, very intimidating and even a feeling of being vulnerable..I was about to walk out of a public loo, walked around the doorway straight into a person completely covered in black.....made me miss a heartbeat or two, had no idea if a male or female or someone with other dubious intentions..

Have also seen them in the shopping centres, and in this day and age it gives one a momentary pause for concern.....again no idea if male or female, or what might be underneath said garb. I otherwise couldn't care less what covering the ladies wear.

I like to see an open face...

It's all a matter of perspective though innit?

Pauline should be our next top dog,if not give it back to our indigenous brothers and they can pay me to sit under a tree and drink, abuse the odd bit of trash that walks by for not giving me a smoke,no I can't do that, that would make me a racist
