It struck me that if we wanted to run something really controversial on here we could combine all 'who was the greatest FF etc' type arguments by selecting a 'best of' team for each club and playing a fantasy football like competition to decide (that'd be a new one for us) which club has the champion 'Best of the best'
I'm not sure we could take it to conclusion but it would make an interesting subject.
My idea would be for all the various supporters on this site to select their clubs 'team of the century' and post it in a thread. No interchange at this point - just the first 18.
Then we select the 'reserves' this would be the next 18 who could be put in the team for particular jobs (eg if Carlton fans had selected Southby at FB then they could have SOS in the reserves and put him in when Carlton XXVIII play a team with Dunstall or Lockett in it
Once the lists are in we play them off - Knockout style. The 16 teams go into a draw and the first round match-ups are drawn.
Once all these are decided the 8 winners go into the quarter finals and are drawn at random
So on and so on until there is a GF
How to decide an individual cup tie. The teams and team lists are posted. the game lasts a week and the supporters of each team put forward the case why their team should be declared the winners. At the end of a few days this is closed and Neutral (registered)supporters vote. Most votes decides the winner.
I'm not sure this would be the best time to run the comp, as there are few similar things underway already.
I envisage it would take a few weeks to complete:
First 18 selection - 1 week
Reserve 18 selection - 1 week
Round 1 draw - 1 week
First round - 8 week
QF Draw - 1 week
Quarter finals - 4 week
SF Draw - 1 week
semi finals - 1 week (run simultanously)
A weeks break - 1 Week
Grand Final - 1 Week
Total - 20 weeks
As an example I put Grendel's Hawks on the Herald Sun's Cats.
Parkin Langford Ayres
Young Wade Pianto
Knights Mew J.Kennedy Jnr
Ablett Flanagan Davis
Dipper Edwards Eade
L Turner Greeves M Turner
Arthur (C) Brereton Buckenara
Slater Hickey Devine
Dunstall Hudson Platten
Smith Todd Newman
Scott (VC) Tuck Matthews
Farmer Hocking Goggin
Knights v Ablett and Brereton v Hickey looks interesting, although there would have to be a change in the Platten v Newman Match-up (that is what the reserves would be for.
Notice how to avoid too much controversy I have avoided the Essendon-Hawthorn thing (Grendel and Dan24) and North V Brisbane.
But these match-ups might happen
