Rooke on Hodge in the 098 GF would have been the master stroke. Alas it didn't happen.

It did happen - for about 20 minutes before Bomber put Stokes back on Hodge. If he kept Max on Hodge, we'd have done the hat trick.

I'll never understand why Bomber made the change back to Stokes.
I doubt we would had won ‘09 if we had won ‘08...nice to dream tho

Maybe this groups can get us a hat trick lol
Shits me hearing that from the players. It's like they lost their self belief after 2008.

I’ve never understood that logic. So how did Brisbane and Hawthorn win three straight then?
Weaker competition , Hawks had a lot of luck in that regard.

But we will never know but I suspect that the way the players were carrying on in ‘08 the loss was a wake up call to make changes. I can’t see the ‘08 team being that mentally strong in ‘09 the saints team were very very good defensively.

Im not sure about hate - look at my Title to see where my feelings lie - :D

But what I took Partridge to infer was that while Max has been posted as the hard wild man of Borneo - and he was - is that his career and influence was not as long and wide reaching as some would indicate.

And im as guilty of pumping him up as anyone. IMO took the team mantra of the time, particularly 06-09 and just bashed his way thru every contest like it was his last. And it probably hastened his retirement too - those knees were cooked.

The point is we all have our favourite types of players and IMO he's not bagging Rooke in any way - just not buying into the legend that is quite as much as some, myself included, have.

In this squad, I reckon watching Linc McCarthy has some parallels. Very hard at it and tries to make ever post a winner like its his last - but has a long way to go.

But the hype Gods aint been working for him yet in the same way...

Regardless, Max Rooke will always be a 2 time GFC Premiership player that came on the list through a letter to Wells, made the absolute most of his ability and then some, and produced some magic moment in GFC's best team to cement his place in GFC folklore.

GO Catters
The hype gods are with me now. Look out for another season to remember. I will be the Linc for the son of god, the god of danger and the selleys glue.

made hodge look stupid too getting him done for holding the ball twenty metres out from goal. Why they took him off him I have no idea.

Bomber said that Rooke was needed back in the middle after Ling was hampered with a knee injury and Stokes was the only option to go back to Hodge (This was why Bomber was extremely angry with Stokes about not being honest about his fitness).
See the logic but the move did cost us greatly- while Rooke was on him Hodge looked rattled and the Hawks’ zone looked like it could break . ( whilst Rooke did give away a 50 metre penalty whilst forward it was one of many very line ball calls by the umps that went against us - one of many facets of a day that contributed to such an ordinary showing by Geelong, albeit against a team that played their game plan to perfection- unfortunately).
Back to the Max love - he was the pressure talisman of the team - although not huge possessions in the 07 and 09 GFs , Rooke’s pressure acts and manic hardness at the ball were integral in our wins. Could see why the club went to extreme lengths to cure his dodgy hamstrings.

Ling smashed Mitchell, his knee can't of been on that bad
