In the lead up to the Round 10 clash between Collingwood and West Coast at the MCG, let's take a trip down memory lane and remember the Round 9 game between these two sides at the MCG.
Coming into that Round 9 game, it was the 1st placed West Coast playing against the last place Collingwood.
See below link to this game and the highlights and watch one of the most famous victories of the Collingwood Football Club.
To this day (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think the "Last placed team beating the first placed team" has happened since that Round 9 game and to explain how rare it is or how hard it is to happen, it has only happened 19 times (again correct me if I'm wrong)
Kevin Bartlett made the game exciting as he commentated the game that day. The other thing which was noticeable in this game was the debut of former Collingwood (45 games) and Essendon (65 games) player Mark Fraser. Mark Fraser played for Collingwood and Essendon from 1992 to 2000 and became an umpire in 2001, umpiring VFL footy from 2001-2006 and being on the AFL umpires list from 2005 to 2006. These days Mark Shield sits on the Match Review Panel. But in this infamous Round 9 game, Shield's bouncing was at times shocking - even to the point where both ruckmen struggled to tap the ball and from memory, there was a "ball up" about 20m-25m from Collingwood's goal and Shield bounced the ball so bad/low etc that Chris Eagen got the ball, strolled in and kicked truly.
From memory it was a bizarre game but an exciting one, and a game which Magpie fans will remember for a long....long time.

Cheers.
