Autopsy A win! vs Richmond

Grim game to watch but some pleasing signs. Tackling pressure was so much better across the ground. Managed to retain possession and not panic so much even if it meant chip kicks across the back.
Pretty solid effort across the team just about everyone lifted from last week. Hanily , Lloyd and Corey probably next in line to get dropped didn't add much.
The week off and having a couple more players to come back in after the break should help us in the back half of the season. Still don't think we can run with the better teams but if we can win 10-11 games this year with our injury list it wouldn't be a bad return especially if we have blooded the youngsters and given them a decent run of games.

  • Not a pretty watch, but outside of maybe 10 minutes at the start, if that effort level was the standard every week you could cop it. The other stuff hopefully comes but it won't happen over night. The key now is making sure that is the effort consistently and not a one off.
  • Grundy was enormous again. Heeney did the classy things when we were lacking a bit of it. Blakeys best game for a long time. Obviously the ins helped free him up. Francis gives effort and is a decent depth player to have on the list (wouldn't be against him getting another year as depth)
  • Mills was good, owes a few good ones and that was a start.
  • The forward line while still a bit impotent, stills works much better without 3 rucks....for the love of god please learn this lesson coaches. Since the last bye our results are 1-5 with 3 rucks and 3-1 without, while not the sole reason it is a big contributor to our forward line functioning (or not) and pressure (or lack thereof) it puts on.
  • Winning is much better than losing. **** tanking for a 1 or 2 higher pick that we'll waste anyway, we need to start building our game back off this effort.

l

not really was good against Port then shit for 3 weeks and got dropped.

Last year he basically got worse each week
Ok. So lucky Amartey got suspended I suppose...Or everything all good. Or maybe Hayward being a spud, or maybe Paps not being there, or maybe midfield just shitting the bed, despite the win today, it was a perfect depiction of Swans shitting the bed. You need to call it out more in wins than losses. These guys plays like crap. It's not about the result.

Missed the first quarter. Perhaps just as well.
What went well:
Grundy gave it everything
Heeney is a genius
Sheldrick is building very well
McCartin as an interceptor is superb
Wicks plays miles above his weight
Harry is just so composed
Rowbottom worked like a trojan
Blakey with more freedom is still a weapon
JJ back to his best
The rest worked hard.
We did a lot better at keeping the ball in our attacking half
So why didn't we win by a lot more?
Our connection is still a problem and won't get fixed in one week
Our ground ball skills are still an issue
McLean and Francis are trier's (love them both) but are not a game winning forward line
Personal stuff
Lloyd drives me crazy. The usual delays but three times he got into the stoppage right where Grundy taps. Just got knocked out of the way. Should not be there.
Corey and Braeden are struggling to make a significant contribution.
Adams still looks a player - definitely best 27 or so.
Gulden returning will force the MC to make some difficult choices.

Lloyd…… every time he got the pill he’d have a cup of tea, a biscuit and a dump before kicking down the line.
Sorry he’s been a great servant but he has to go.
His short kicks border on not 15 calls but his accuracy is not good kicking longer than that.
Big decisions to make going forward.
We had Blakey Lloyd & Florents turning it over regularly last year off half back.
Time to move on from that group.with Blakey at least occasionally taking the game on like today.

He has been bad for a long time. But at the moment it's just better to allow him to go off into the sunset.
Unfortunately they didnt fake a hamstring. Maybe after the bye.

Good response this week.
Still too much of -stop and prop, look at me, look at me. Followed by long to a contest. Just give it to the first option in a red and white jumper.
Leave Francis up forward.
Blakey was more freed up, and gave us so much more.
Welcome back Harry.

Gerard Healy should call all of our games, invaluable insights.
Possible that Leon Cameron goes upstairs to Tom Harley's old job.

Healy was shocking

We were winning by 40 or 50 and all his comments were negative about us.

I basically disagree with 3/4 of the stuff in this post, other than Blakey and Harry comments

Adams disposal was terrible. He is an inside mid, if his handball is going directly to the opposition then it is useless him bothering to get the ball.

Macca was great, back to his best. We had a leader out there today.

Mills. He controlled the play today.

Time for Lloydy to retire. I have always lived Jake Lloyd. But not now. Both him and Rampe are finished.

I thought Campbell was really good today. His pressure turned the ball over on multiple occasions. His drive was fantastic. If he had kicked straight, he would have kicked 4.

I think Lloyd is cactus when Errol comes back.
Likewise Bice for Roberts

Win is a win imo , even if it is against the tigers who are rebuilding.

Hopefully some confidence

Lloyd needs to go asap

Great tackling after q1

Can’t believe how bad we are offensively now.

We are no doubt a bottom 6 team but hopefully

Sheldrick 3 TOs 0 Clangers from 19 touches at 84%.

Auto selection post bye imo
He’s a lock now to good in close loves the hard ball exactly what we need and will only get better
The effort was there. Better than them spitting in our faces like they did the last couple of weeks. The question is, is Harry Cunningham our most important player. I say yes.
Could b a case for mills being the most important when he plays like that…also freed up Blaykey to run a absolute much

Adding some leadership to our backline was huge, both Cunningham and Mills made a massive difference down back.

Think our disposal inside forward 50 will look a lot better with a few natural forwards playing (Amartey, McDonald and Papley help this). I don't actually think the Wicks pass inside 50 was a bad kick, it was a great kick into a leading lane just no forwards used it.

Really liked Campbells game today, felt he really stepped up.

Sheldrick, enough has been said building nicely.

Heeney - our best player by a country mile, absolutely love him.

Blakey - Nice to have OG Blakey back, Mills, Cunningham, Rampe, Melican and McCartin around him allows him to do what he does best and we are better for it.

If you're being honest, Hanily, Cor. Warner, Francis, Campbell were terrible. Francis can be excused as he simply wasn't used and completely ignored in his role, AS A LEAD UP FORWARD.
Oh and everyone needs to know, after the bye, if you hold the ball without playing on, you're dropped. Enough is enough.
