I know the history. The SACA has the location, the SANFL the money. The SANFL could quite easily buy into the stadium. A 50% spit, or even a controlling 51/49 split either way. The set up of the GABBA, SCG and MCG has worked great for Footy in their respective states.

What about the two worst stadiums in the league, AAMI and Subi, Aussie Rules went alone.

You say you know it, but you really dont seem to understand it.

When did the SACA say that they wanted to sell a stake in the stadium, let alone the controlling stake? Hell, i dont even think the SACA are allowed to sell part of the Adelaide oval, since they are the trustees, not the owners.

Of course the SACA wants AFL at Adelaide Oval, its a brilliant cash cow, which they lost previously by alienating the SACA, and now theyve realized it, and are desperately trying to get back on the gravy train. Oh yeah, and then theres the little matter of using the AFL to justify the government paying for expensive upgrades to their stadium, its pure win for them, and does nothing for anyone else.

I came back from London just before the Melbourne Games. The Whole plane was full of Brits going to the Commonwealth games. The papers were full of write ups about the games whilst I was there.

ok that's just pure fiction. the papers barely covered the games when they were in manchester! stop making things up to support a ludicrous position.

Exposure would be massive. India alone is becoming a huge market. Events like these are great for new stadiums and getting federal funding along the way. Adelaide has never experienced this, I have never experienced it. I want to and I think it would be great for Adelaide.

the exposure would be huge in your imagined fantasy world I grant you, but you do realise the difference between reality and make believe don't you? you could be Heather Mills McCartney's long lost love child :)

haha. You have to be kidding me.

Above you say you were there, but later you say you haven't experienced it?

And the only things India are big in are Cricket, call centres and making crap movies.
Apart from the odd hockey final, what other sport do they excel in?

I am simply stating that when I was in London there was plenty of articles in the papers about the up coming Melbourne Commonwealth games. Seemed Melbourne thought highly of the games spending Billions on it.

Mate, I don't know where you live, but you don't live in Adelaide, therefore really you opinion counts for nothing when it comes to South Australian matters.

The SACA has said they would think about making the stadium bigger to become multipurpose (ie For AFL). The State government could easily get a co-lease for the SANFL and SACA. The SACA would have a better oval and more pulling power, the SANFL a rock solid investment, and Crowds all round would be pleased. I am simply suggesting things here.

The SACA has shown and proven it can get funding for the oval because its iconic and will exist for years. Meanwhile the SANFL wants 250 million for a stadium upgrade and more money for a rail extention for a stadium used by only one (and will only ever be used by one) code. And the life span of the stadium will always have a question mark over it.

Ill give you a hint, hes far better positioned to speak on what was big in the UK than you ;)

London, when I was in London I bought the paper everyday when I caught the train. Lots of articles about the upcoming 'commonwealth games' and strangely enought plenty of articles about the 'where the bloody hell are you' ad. haha.

I have never experiecned living in a city which has hosted a huge event... It would be great!

Try 1.1 Billion people (maybe even a little more by the time the games could be held) and the 2nd fastest growing economy. Sports loving country. South Australia could grab alot of attention and get plenty of immigrants to come here, get the population kick started.

They are good at Shooting and Weight lifting, from what I remember from the last games, haha.

Id have trouble saying the Comm games is a huge event. I tend to think most people dont care. Couldnt tell you one winner of an event at the last ones. Its really an outdated concept.

If you think the Indians are filled with pride by anything to do with the 'Commonwealth', you should do some reading into post colonialism.

Wheres the next Commonwealth games?

Conversely not positioned so well for whats big in Adelaide.

Yup, because having moved means that he officially knows noone in Adelaide, and has no links to the city.

Besides, most of what Crow-Mo argues is just simple logic. Itd make sense no matter where he was from. Its a poor grounds to try and discredit him on the basis of location, and its usually used after people try to argue him, and fail.

Relatively good point, and to be fair, i wouldnt have had a clue without looking it up because as ive said before i dont care about the Comm games... i wonder how many people could tell you where they are off the top of their head? India is a country making power plays at the moment to mark their position in the world. Interesting they've gone in this direction.

To be fair, that wasnt really the point i was making. Im not really convinced your average Indian cares about the Commonwealth games. There are grudges from colonialism in India, which would make me question how much pride they feel at being a part of the Commonwealth (aka British Empire). Suggesting that there would be an influx of Indian tourism, or Indian migration even as the result of holding the Commonwealth games is ill founded, and irresponsible.

Are you implying that you think I am discrediting him because he beat me in an agruement?

:p

In one word, yes.

Crow-Mo has argued circles around you a few times now. I dont blame you for going the 'well you dont live here, leave me alone :(' route.

I must admit, he is a hard nut to crack with his insight into things. How can you argue when he puts facts up like that.

Near impossible.

Ofcourse the fact I am argueing for a better Adelaide, has nothing to do with the fact it annoys me that he dismisses them even though he does not live here.

BTW India is hosting the next Commonwealth games.

To be fair, his insight into the coverage in England is probably credible.

'Better Adelaide' is subjective. Your idea of better is not everyones, this is what you fail to realize. In alot of cases, what you're arguing actually isnt for the best. As far as him not living here, thats a cop out. If you cant defend your statements, living here doesnt make one iota of difference. I didnt notice you trying to discredit Kristoff, is that because he agrees with you?

On the Commonwealth games, i know. I looked it up. See my last post.

Well heres just a point. On Sensational Adelaide, half the people on it are immigrants, mostly from Asia. They said that the Sydney Olympics was a huge advertisement for Australia. Showcased the Beachs, the city, the lifestyle. I know the commonwealth games is smaller, but atleast it would be advertising Adelaide.

I don't beleive India holds a massive grudge about the British empire (although I havent read up on it). They still play cricket, have huge migration to the UK and have followed the British example in many parts of their modern society (such as the obession with newspapers). An uneducated example, but still. The British link in India is still very prevelant.

He only said anything about the Manchester Games.

I understand my views don't represent everybodies. No one can claim such a thing. But general things such as a new CBD stadium, Vic Sq redevelopement, height of buildings increased, population increases, These are generally points which people approve of.

I haven't discreditied Kristoff because he is putting forward suggestions, not simply dismissing mine and offering no other.

The Olympics is a big event, but i dont think the Commonwealth Games are anymore. Its pointless to compare the two.

As far as having a grudge goes, maybe my view is tainted from having read too many indians view on Post Colonialism and all that, but there are some divisions there. Cricket isnt a good example of harmony, look at the political infighting thats gone on this year alone. The British link will probably always exist, but the Indians dont necessarily view it all as a positive.

Because hes best able to speak about the situation of Manchester i would assume.

Again, you cant say which are generally points people approve of, without actually knowing. Assuming you are the voice of the majority is more than a little egotistical.

'Putting forward suggestions' being another way of saying he agreed with you (though has now apparently reconsidered). You cant have it both ways, either you want foreigners to butt out, or you value their contributions. Either not being in Adelaide disqualifies, or it doesnt.

Heres what he said "ok that's just pure fiction. the papers barely covered the games when they were in manchester! stop making things up to support a ludicrous position."

Claming the papers barely covered the games is ludicruous as he would say. Unless he was living in Australia at the time, in which his view is about as credible as any other Australian.

I don't think anyone can every know if they have the majority behind them on such issues. But going by polls and general opinion when talking to people, it seems a CBD stadium does have a big following (I know polls are tainted apparently).

Well you have me there, what I more meant was, he is not even from Adelaide and he is dismissing everything I say, but offering no solution. Then why even add to the arguement at all. Kristoff has changed his mind, but atleast he has put forward his opinions and thoughts honestly.

I think he was saying that the British papers barely covered it, not the Australian papers, thus is a debunk to the 'it was big in London' type of claim...

Those polls weren't highly credible, the true test will come if the Liberals choose to take it to the polls as an election issue, where it will be compared to the plans for that money State Labor has. I have trouble seeing an election fought and won on this issue.

The mistake you're making is thinking that not agreeing there is anything which requires an alternative plan is not contributing to the debate. It is. Whats the point in suggesting plans, if nothing needs to be done at all?

and as someone who lives there, and did at the time, I think you are telling lies or at best your imagination has taken over your better judgement.

an informed opinion, will always count for more than ignorance regardless of geography. ;)
