And in my opinion that’s a huge problem. By having the same owner it restricts one clubs.

As I said in the next post, if I was a board member of the AFC I would be ropable that increasing attendances at AAMI Stadium was not part of the redevelopment agenda because we don’t have any room to move with membership, corporate sponsorship, or total revenue made. For a long time I have felt the SANFL looked at the AFC as just a cash cow and now they have squeezed as much out of us as they can they are working you lot over to make more. As a support of the Adelaide Football Club (not the SANFL) I don’t really care if Port Adelaide gets 50,500 or 50,000 people to their games because that’s not going to help the bottom line of the AFC. Your right Jimmy is owned by the same organization and to me that’s a problem because in the long run they want both clubs to have a 50/50 market share and to me that is a ****ed idea.

Being limited in how you can control something is very frustrating.

It wouldn’t but wiping the power out was an extreme analogy to make. By wiping the Power out it’s not going to help South Australian Football or more importantly the SANFL and it more than likely will be a disadvantage to AFC in other are beyond membership and sponsorship. I only used to it show how competition should be enforced.

Because someone cannot sell something doesn’t mean they should slow there own production down. Mitsubishi have just sold out because they weren’t making a profit, does that mean Holden should shut down as well?

That’s the problem I have with the SANFL owning both AFL licences, it’s restrictive to one organization. The idea could be floated that that the Crows could build a new stand by themselves but it will never be approved by the SANFL – they are restricting our growth to benefit Port Adelaide. I am not blaming your club, I am blaming the SANFL.

I don’t know about how unlikely we (Australia) are to winning the rights but I heard a whisper that South Australia might bid to host the 2019 or 2023 Commonwealth games.

The credence for this study wasn’t designed around the FIFA; there first priority is to bring it up to international standard for anything they wish to bid for and then the criteria will meet FOFA standard.

I reckon those 2 countries will be pretty chuffed if they made it to the World Cup .

Its just about a given that every game at a World Cup will sell out. These "crap matches" you speak of will probably all involve teams that are at the same level or more than likely a higher level than Australia. People will go just because its the World Cup, not because of who is playing. Of course games involving Australia, Brazil, England etc will sell faster but that doesnt mean the other wont. It is a HUGE chance to make money.

As for AAMI Stadium, I dont think theres much doubt that if this is where footy is to stay, and if its going to be part of an Australian WC bid, it has to be almost totally rebuilt. Personally I dont mind travelling down there and if car parking wasnt such an issue (thanks Footy Xpress) I wouldnt have much of a problem at all. But it is an old design and there does need to be changes to facilities and whoever suggested a light rail system is definetly on the money.

Oh and while we are on the topic of redevelopment, looks like the Adelaide Oval redevelopment will not be taking place for a little while yet. Theres a few things to sort out and the Adelaide City Council arent totally happy....... shock horror.

Agreed, the GSS is about 15 years old and is now listed for redvelopment so what does that say about the 30+ year old stands at football park ??? The big problem throughout all of this is the SANFL. They are football dinosaurs on and off the field at the end of the day their main priority seems to be money coming into the coffers each year rather than continue building football popularity in South Australia.

They are the pretty much the same group of people that has been there for years holding football back in this state. The couldnt even negotiate for years over entering the VFL, yet eventually joined under conditions it previously claimed were unacceptable. It took the SANFL's hand to be forced before they did something. They were more interested in promoting propaganda about the VFL/AFL and claiming that they weren't interested in SA and more interested in having a SA side to weaken the SANFL (did anyone really believe that the VFL in the late 80s felt threatened by the SANFL ??? ) and were basically scaremongering trying keep football fans interested in the SANFL.

It's not the 1970s anymore and this is the time to push to move to a new stadium otherwise they continue to alienate themselves from the football supporters. Eventually in the future is all going to come crashing down for the SANFL yet all they seem to care about is the short term and how much they can generate from year to year.

A new stadium in the city should be the number 1 priority of the SANFL as it will help to further promote football in SA, but as always the SANFL always puts itself first and the growth of football second so it will continue to be self indulgent and totally ignore what is the best long term option when it could be one of the last chances for it to be affordable to persue this option because they are only looking at the short term and not the best long term option.

Absopositively correct.. Couldnt agree with you more on this.. The dinosaurs/coffers comment is exactly right, it is all that makes their eyes light up.. So out of touch with supporters in the terraces and including what we want before and after games..

Seems like yesterday the great southern stand went up and theyre already updating.. By the way, i would personally accept a membership increase for a few years or whatever may be the case if it meant helping to get a new cbd stadium but thats my thoughts.. I know lots wouldnt

Erhh you have no idea how the world cup draw and schedule is done do you?

Last December when the qualifying draw for the 6 confederations was done by FIFA, they also published the 2010 World Cup playing schedule. At the moment it looks like this.

A1 v A2 @ Ground x dd/06/10
A3 v A4 @ Ground y dd/06/10
etc

They will pre seed South Africa in a group before all the other teams are drawn out of bowls and allocated to their position within the 8 groups (A to H), so that SA play their preliminary games in the biggest and second biggest stadium and maybe the third biggest stadium. They will probably also pre seed Italy as they are the WC holders.

This is what happened in Germany 2006. Germany and Brazil were one of the top 8 seeds based on the FIFA WC and annual ratings system. They were given spots A1 and F1 before the other 30 teams were drawn from the bowls so that they played at the 3 biggest stadiums in the prelim rounds, so that the most number of people could watch the home team and the defending champions.

The same thing happened in the Japan-Korea WC, with Korea being given the D2 slot and Japan the H2 slot before the other 29 teams were drawn out of the bowls, to make sure that Korea played in Korea and Japan played in Japan. China was given the C3 slot before the main draw for political reasons, ie so that they played in Korea and the Chinese fans could catch a train thru North Korea to get to the games.

The draw is transperent is done in front of greats of the game and watched by hundreds of millions around the world.

So there would be no reason why a German v Italy type game wouldn't be played in Adelaide if Oz got the WC. All stadiums have to have 40,000+ seats. It all depends on the luck of the draw. Adelaide probably wouldn't get to see the Socceroos in the prelim rounds, but might in the knock out phase depending on how things go with the results.

Unless we intend to build 2 huge stadiums in the city, like Melbourne has, there will always be these problems. The rectangular pitch sports are going to have to make their own way in SA, not ride on the back of aussie rules or cricket.

As for the SANFL only entering the AFL because its hand was forced comment. Your right the SANFL wasnt going to move until Port (maybe Norwood as well) forced its hand. And for good reason. The VFL under rated the SANFL, and because of the 1990 shafting, we are now stuck with perminent under representation in the national aussie rules scene. FFS NSW and Qld. will in a couple of years have equal representation as we do in the AFL and they still after 20 years have no idea what its all about. Victoria will maintains its gross over representation because of it too. The SANFL were right to say stick it up your jumper IMO. If it wasnt for the treachery of 1990, who knows what our representation would be. Who knows what the VFL would have been forced to give up to get a genuine AFL off the ground. I for one believe we could have and should have had greater representation than we have today. God knows it couldnt have been less than we have. On top of that, we are now stuck with a system where we are generating money thats going to be used to prop up Victorian clubs that didnt ever warrant national league status, and still dont. In another thread people are talking about holding grudges. The one we should all hold is what Port (and maybe Norwood) did to SA footy in 1990. We'll pay for it forever.

It wasn't going to happen at the moment due to the people there and the fact it's easy to put a band aid solution to the problem. It won't go away, and eventually when there is a new administration, common sense will prevail and it will get done. A rectangular stadium will go ahead and I think the people invovled in Soccer can make it happen unlike the people at the SANFL.

It's rubbish that codes can not share a venue and there are examples of where that happens. I think you keep Adelaide Oval as the second venue and you just need some good management.

I wouldn't bother with the Commonwealth games, waste of time and money for very little gain.

I came back from London just before the Melbourne Games. The Whole plane was full of Brits going to the Commonwealth games. The papers were full of write ups about the games whilst I was there.

Exposure would be massive. India alone is becoming a huge market. Events like these are great for new stadiums and getting federal funding along the way. Adelaide has never experienced this, I have never experienced it. I want to and I think it would be great for Adelaide.

I know the history. The SACA has the location, the SANFL the money. The SANFL could quite easily buy into the stadium. A 50% spit, or even a controlling 51/49 split either way. The set up of the GABBA, SCG and MCG has worked great for Footy in their respective states.

What about the two worst stadiums in the league, AAMI and Subi, Aussie Rules went alone.
