The thing is we could easily cover for Sheridan if he left. Weller or Blakely could slot right in. We are short of talls, it isn't just a question of who is a better player.

Something like Sheridan + Pick 36 to North for Black + Pick 30 would be a win/win for both teams.
I see what you did there ydraw. Love your confidence. :p

Why is Sheridan promising? There are rookie mids this year that look more promising than him.

Why isn't he promising? Played almost 30 games & shown good run & carry while on the wing, learning a bit of the running back role of Duff. Certainly hasn't been in our worst like some others.

Black's development has been disappointing and he has had injury issues which may be ongoing and need to be assessed. If this was not the case then there is no way he would be discussed as a potential trade because he would be in the Roos best 22. But he isn't there, and the last thing we want is to pick up a dud or bog average player.

I am neither here nor there in terms of us looking at him, but if either Sheridan or Crozier want to get home then Black could be part of that. At this point I would rank them higher than Black given the lack of confidence the Roos have shown in him and the uncertainty surrounding his shoulders.

I think North Melbourne are spreading this rumour because they are committed to a player that has gone downhill heavily since a signing on potential. They need to offload him before he chews a hole in their salary cap.

What injury did Black sustain?

A couple of years ago he was playing quite well, fast forward to 2015 and he's no where to be seen!

A low second round pick is about all I'd be willing to part with. He's had probably one decent season in his career, has had injuries and currently can't get a game in a fairly mediocre team.

The problems with attracting a key forward to freo have been well documented, including on big footy but not convinced this guy is the answer.

North have the upper hand here, regardless of his 'want' to be traded. 2 years left of his contract. Unless they want him off their books, they will be able to demand overs for him.

On the free market, based on results to date, at most a late 2nd, early 3rd pick. Because of his contract position, will likely need someone of the ilk or Croz or Sheridan + swap second rounders.

Worth it? not based on last 2 years

But our second rounder would be pick 36 : north's would be much lower, say 24.

We've got more than enough tall forwards who can't mark, why would we want another? Unless he turns this aspect of his game around, he's completely useless to us.

My own personal rating system, I rate him highly*. I think Clancee Pearce is a deadset gun too whereas most just see a solid role player with bad tatts.

*May or may not be because I recently found out he supported Freo growing up

Bad ? What an understatement. They are shit.

He is a below par third forward who can't get a game in a middling club. Black is neither KF tall or third tall quick .He is the same height as Mundy with out Mundy's tank or skill set.Why would we need him?

Black would only be depth at Freo.
Recruiting him would not solve any problems.
A no from me.

Saw the VFL game North Ballarat V Geelong last week. North Ballarat are the feeder for North. He looked OK, but kicking was average and didn't do enough to get selected in an AFL side. Remember North got "potential" Jarrad Waite rather than play Black. I would be loathe to recruit a player that is behind "potential" Waite. in an under achieving side.

Black looked a certain star a few years ago. Very mobile, good skills. I'd definitely take him while his value is low. He may be struggling and down on confidence but he can play. Change of scene could do him good.
Maybe if we hadn't been burnt by a lot of players in the past in the same situation. You just just described Jack "50 goals" Anthony.

Not really. We bought at the top of the market with Anthony who was very limited player that had one purple patch.
We tried to give North a first rounder for Black a couple of years ago but they wouldn't budge.
Now his price would have come down considerably so we would be getting a former first round tall at under market value.

That's not quite right, at least not what I recall. The issue in the end was with Black himself. Short version was that he was seriously considering us for a bit there, but ultimately it was his decision to stay at Nth that meant the deal was off. If he wanted to leave, Nth would have had to deal with us (and as it's turned out it could have been a bit of a dudd deal).

Like you said above, people are forgetting that he was a very good prospect and had shown some good signs for a mobile tallish fwd. Basing his entire value on most recent almost entirely injury affected form is a bit rough. Of course, you have to see him as 'damaged goods' now, but if injuries can be put to rest and confidence built, there's still a quality footballer there - it's just how big that IF is.

Agreed but the reason he stayed with North is they put a lot of work into getting him to stay. Flying his family over more often & made him a good contract so it didn't get to the trading stage. We would have given a first round at the time I believe so I was taking artistic license.

Yeah right. Well Nth obviously did something right because in the end he was pretty happy to stay.

It would have been a bummer if we offered that first round pick at least on the face of it (though I would have been surprised if it would have been a strait swap, I reckon we would have wanted a lower pick thrown in). Having said that, we picked Apeness with that pick. As we sit, they are looking about as likely as each other to actually turn into long term AFL prospects. Of course a lot of water to go under those bridges yet though.
