Can't wait to see the flash/aussie combo firing next year
Missed a few games through injury, and it is a bit frustrating because we know that he could be an excellent player. Playing his role as a small forward in a shit team isn't easy. Look at all the good small forwards from this season, they all play in good sides (Chapman, Milne, Rioli, Medhurst, Davis, etc...) However, Davey is about to become one of our most senior players so he must step up and take some responsibility on his shoulders. Was played up the field a bit more than usual, probably because of Wonaeamirri/Maric playing forward.

Disappointingly, he only managed 0.7 goals per game, which is well down on his previous season low (1.3 goals per game). I'd also like to see him apply more tackles. A player like him should be able to get more than 3 a game, especially in a losing side.

Aaron had an indifferent season by his standards. He played 15 matches, averaging 15 disposals. He battled injury for a sizeable part of the season and also missed a match through a club-imposed suspension.

We all know how good Davey can be, he is blessed with high levels of talent in most of the essential areas of the game. However, in the past two seasons his form has varied greatly. He plays those games in which he really impacts upon the match and creates a spark, however all too often he fades out of other games and has a minimal impact. He needs to work on this part of his game to become an elite player.
If he can improve his stamina over preseason he may be able to move into the midfield more often and add another dimension to Melbourne’s relatively slow midfield. A role across halfback may also suit him, although accountability and size may be issues here. In saying that, he is probably most damaging as a forward who rotates through the midfield spasmodically.
Trade Value: 1st rounder, but he isn’t on the trade table.

Mainly agree with Cannons, his write-ups are excellent.
Flash has an issue with consistency. However he's playing a HBF rebounder role (I think) these days which is different from his usual opportunistic FP role. Could get P.Burger numbers in SC.

Almost career-best form at the moment.
I know we'd love to have him forward, but his foot skills are wasted there considering our lack of kicking options coming off half-back.

31 possessions from 76% of game time is great by Davey. Also had 2 goals & 5 tackles so it really was a complete perfomance against the Dockers.
Contract dramas are over and Aaron is at the club for another four seasons, phew! Want to see more of his 2009 form in the coming years, I'm sure he's earning the dollars to justify that expectation. He's got the best (accurate) delivery by foot at the club, crucial in avoiding the costly turnovers that have been our downfall these last two years.

After taking the likes of Scully and Trengove etc (assuming that happens) to boost our midfield, does anyone else here think that Davey may be placed back into the forward line?
No I reckon he's best used in the middle and resting up forward, the way the game is these days pretty much everyone plays onball anyway. His field kicking coming into the 50 is pretty important as is his pace and in both those things he's light years ahead of anything else we have (and will be better than Scully and trengove for next year at least)

Wasn't as damaging as I was hoping he would be this year, still struggled with tags but it was still a pretty consistant year from him. Argubably our most important player with his pace, ability to carry the ball and his superb disposal. 7\10

MELBOURNE star Aaron Davey says he has what it takes to be Melbourne's next captain.
Davey is part of a shortlist of six - along with Brad Green, Jared Rivers, Jack Grimes, Brent Moloney and Nathan Jones - to inherit the job that was left vacant with James McDonald's departure.
Green is said to be the favourite for the position, which is expected to be announced in February.
But Davey, who is the second most experienced player at the Demons behind Green, is a strong chance to take the job. And he is more than aware of the significance of the honour, should he get it.
"It would be amazing and to be the first ever indigenous captain of a historical club like Melbourne is something I never thought I'd be able to achieve," Davey told afl.com.au.

Interested in reading people's thoughts on what the rest of the season might hold for Flash. I know he has got pace to burn and is one of the best kicks in the league, but he is not coping with heavy tags at the moment. Not sure where that leaves him. I think our back 6 is looking pretty good with Bartram, Frawley, Garland, Tapscott, Rivers and Grimes. Given the attention he gets in the middle it really only leaves the wing and forward line. Would you play Flash, Aussie and Bennell together in the forward line?
When Scully and Mackenzie are fit I think he and Jones will find themselves under a lot of pressure to perform, which will be a sign of us improving as a club.

If I remember correctly he tore it up in the forward line v Brisbane. How could he have problems shaking tags, he's the Flash! It's just that he can't do it as a rebounding midfielder, as he has to be tagging another player as well.

Jones has actually been quite good lately, it would be hard to drop him unless he has a couple of stinkers. I feel as if we are getting into the same positionn we were in last season, not being able to fit all the players we want in our best 22.
Pettard, Cook, Scully, Mackenzie, Gawn, Blease all players that are out and should be in our best 22 in a few years. Who do you drop?

I think Davey should get to play a bit more like Goodes. When he is getting heavy attention in the middle, move himself and his midfielder opponent deep forward as he is dangoures here while his tag may back off or stay, either way no worries. He should constantly switch positions back to the midfield and backline creating a very tough player to keep track of.
Maybe this won't work at all but a few years ago Flash was amazing as a small forward, a few minutes here and their may work really well.
