I posted this on the main board, but it doesn't seem to be getting too much attention, which I think is a shame as this guy is a gun. I think it deserves it own thread here and I apologise if I have oevrstepped the mark by making a new thread on an opposition team's board. I just think he deserve his own thread.

Aaron Davey is an elite kicker of the football.
I stood and watched him last Sunday and already knew he executed this craft very well, but he takes it to a new level.
He kicks short, but finds the right option every, single time.
His mind works quickly and his hand to foot coordination works overtime.
Terrific player. Love watching him.

The only thing holding Aaron back is his attitude imo. He is easily worked up by the opposition when things aren't going his way. Has always been a superb user of the football. Has left his show-pony and trick days behind him and almost always does the right thing with the football.

I nearly started a thread on him during the week. The Dees only need him to get 20 disposals a game and he can break a game wide open, because his kicking is so accurate. The use of Benell in the F50 means it frees Davey up around the ground where he can be deadly with his ground passing. With Sylvia, Green, Moloney, Jones and co in good form, it means he doesn't necessarily get the tag each week either. Also with Jamar in great form, he feeds off him well. Our style in the last few weeks has also helped Davey's game immensely. Running and breaking the lines through the corrider suits him perfectly. He hasn't had a BOG yet this year, but he has been solid in each game setting up our small forward line. With no big marking forward in our team yet, Davey is one of the most important players in our side. He's worth every penny we have paid him for his current contract and I reckon a BOG is just around the corner. Great player, definitely in our top 3 at the club....

davey is definitely injured. does anyone else notice how he walks when the ball isnt near him or when he's coming to the bench? looks to be his groin, and it's definitely holding him back.

Massively agree tornsword. So good. Aaron does the hard things, loves a run-down tackle, smothers quite regularly...but his field kicking and finishing is sublime.

Such an asset because he always uses the ball well and can find space by putting the foot down.

He's not the only player in the AFL who walks when the ball isn't near him, it's just conserving energy when he's not in the contest.

If he was injured he wouldn't be playing.

He didn't just say he walks - its how he walks - like he is tight in the groin muscles area. I tend to agree - he doesn't look 100% - but I would take a 90% fit Daveu over most players - unless he is doing himself more harm.

If he wasn't 100% I doubt Bailey would pass up the chance to give a Strauss or a Gysberts a game and give Flash some rest.

As good as Flash is, Bailey knows this year isn't all about wins regardless of how we've started the season it's about developing players and perfecting a gameplan.

I don't think it's a groin problem, as he's not lost kicking penetration.
Maybe it is a hip problem.

He seems to be reluctant to run as much & avoiding physical hits at present.

Last year he had a shot from 50 and smashed it 15 rows back into the stands from a set shot. Today he had one from 45 and barely made it through for a point.

He nailed one from 50 last night?

I don't think he is injured, he has ALWAYS looked that way when he is walking around.

He wasn't dominant last night, but what he has improved so much is his consistency. Three years ago he would have gotten under 10 touches last night, but now he still kicks 2 goals and 19 touches. If he keeps kicking a goal a game I'll be stoked.

How good was that smother late in the third when Black was kicking to bring them within 4 goals? Brilliant stuff :thumbsu: .

if it's something that is relatively safe to play with and just needs time to heal/can wait until surgery later in the season, then i think bailey would more than likely play his arguably best player. it was very important for us to start winning some games. for the players, supporters and his coaching contract!

hopefully im wrong or its nothing too serious.
