Aaron Hernandez - TE - Patriots

Sports Illustrated reports Aaron Hernandez has been questioned in a "possible homicide" in North Attleboro, Mass., but is "not believed to be a murder suspect.

"However, SI reports "a vehicle rented in (Hernandez's) name has emerged as a key piece of evidence in the investigation."

The body of a 27-year-old Boston man was found less than a mile from Hernandez's home on Monday.

Hernandez was questioned by Massachusetts State Police, who were reportedly at his residence on Tuesday. A source close to Hernandez confirmed he has spoken with police. His player rep has declined comment.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the "belief" inside Patriots headquarters is that Aaron Hernandez was "not involved" with the murder police are investigating in Attleboro, Mass.

The facts are changing quickly, but here's what we think we know:

1. Hernandez is simply being questioned, and is not a suspect.

2. A car rented in Hernandez's name is a "key piece of evidence."

3. Hernandez's home is being searched Tuesday evening.

The story will likely continue to evolve quickly, but for now there's no reason to assume anything other than Hernandez is having a (really) bad Tuesday. The situation should be updated later this evening.

Investigators searched New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez's North Attleboro, Mass., home Tuesday in connection with the death of a man who police said was an associate of Hernandez, ABC News reported.
ABC News reports that Massachusetts investigators plan to interview Hernandez about the death.
During the search that lasted hours, two friends of Hernandez who were in the house tried to leave but were stopped by state police at the end of the driveway. Crime scene investigators later searched the car the men attempted to leave in, according to the report.
On Tuesday night, some police officers stood on the front steps of Hernandez's home and others could be seen inside. Some walked around the driveway and in the garage with flashlights. Before wrapping up their work for the night, one officer took a box out of the massive house.
Hernandez has not been named as a suspect, but a rental vehicle with Rhode Island plates was found near the scene, which led investigators to Hernandez, SI.com reported.
Hernandez was initially uncooperative with police after the body of a 27-year-old man was found in an industrial park not far from the Patriots player's home, two law enforcement sources told ABC.
Hernandez is represented by the Athletes First agency, which said it has no comment "on the Aaron Hernandez situation." The player's mother said by telephone from Connecticut on Tuesday she had no knowledge of a case involving him.
"I am aware of the reports, but I do not anticipate that we will be commenting publicly during an ongoing police investigation," Patriots spokesman Stacey James said.
The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro, Mass., reported on Tuesday that police identified a rented 2013 Chevrolet Suburban with Rhode Island license plates in the town 40 miles south of Boston in connection with the possible homicide. The paper reported the vehicle is registered to Enterprise and investigators were hoping to analyze it for fingerprints.
The Patriots drafted Hernandez out of Florida in 2010. Since then, he has combined with Rob Gronkowski to form one of the top tight end duos in the NFL.
In 38 games, the 6-foot-1, 245-pound Hernandez has 175 receptions for 1,956 yards and 18 touchdowns. He missed 10 games last season with an ankle injury and had shoulder surgery in April, but is expected to be ready for training camp. The Patriots have not said which shoulder was operated on.
Last summer, the Patriots gave Hernandez a five-year contract. It was worth $40 million, according to reports, and came just months after the team locked up Gronkowski, through 2019.
"Aaron's improved a lot," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said at the time. "He's worked hard, he's improved a lot in all phases of the game -- the passing game, the running game, protection and his overall versatility. He's doing a good job for us."

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent back surgery with noted specialist Dr. Robert Watkins in California on Tuesday.
Gronkowski's procedure is believed to have gone "well," a league source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The exact recovery time for Gronkowski's back depends on his progression through the rehabilitation program, but it has been estimated to be in the area of 12 weeks. The Patriots have not yet announced the opening date of training camp, but it is not expected that Gronkowski will be available when it starts sometime in late July.
Gronkowski's surgery comes on the heels of a fourth surgery on his left forearm, which was initially broken in November. Fellow tight end Aaron Hernandez is also coming off of surgery this offseason, and the Patriots currently have an NFL-high seven tight ends on the roster.
The Patriots start the regular season on Sept. 8 at Buffalo.
In 43 NFL games, Gronkowski has scored 39 touchdowns -- 38 on passes and one on a run.

I hope for Hernandez and my fantasy team he wasn't involved- overlooked Gronk, Vincent Jackson and Marques Colston for him

Bill knew (probably spying on him), that's why he signed Tebow last week!

Brady to TE, Tebow to QB, genius!

Update kind of...

Police reportedly spent hours inside Aaron Hernandez's home Tuesday night and emerged with a box.

There's still no sign that Hernandez is a suspect in the murder investigation, but he has consulted with a lawyer. It's possible that the box police removed from his home was evidence. The Patriots, NFL, district attorney's office and Hernandez's agents have all declined comment, leaving the public in the dark as to exactly what is going on. We only know that a 27-year-old male body of an "associate" of Hernandez's was found in the vicinity of a rental car connected to the tight end roughly a mile from his home.

Another...

In its latest update to the Aaron Hernandez story, Sports Illustrated reiterates he is "not believed to be a murder suspect.

"Hernandez's role in the alleged crime remains unclear after Massachusetts State Police searched his home for over two and a half hours Tuesday. Per reporter Greg A. Bedard, police are looking for a second vehicle under Hernandez's name in addition to the rental car considered a "key piece of evidence." We're nowhere near the end of this.

And another interesting one....

TMZ.com reports Aaron Hernandez was recently sued for allegedly shooting a man in the face in February, and the suit will be refiled Wednesday after being temporarily withdrawn due to a paperwork mishap.

Things are going downhill quickly for New England's star tight end. It sounds like the February shooting was accidental, but allegedly came in the course of an argument. It's important to note that the entire episode is hearsay since criminal charges were never pursued, but it's an ominous backdrop to Hernandez being one of the subjects of a Massachusetts murder investigation. Hopefully his situation will clarify before the end of the week, and for the better.

Interesting couple of days for Hernandez. Always thought of him as a quiet, civilized type.

That said this whole shooting business seems fishy.

A) This happened in February, why are we only hearing about it now? Shooting someone in the face is a pretty big deal
B) The guy that was shot "lost his right eye and has undergone multiple surgeries to reconstruct the area of his face around the eye" and "will have to undergo future procedures on his face and arm as well", and he's only suing Hernandez, who's makes millions, for $100k? Seems legit.

Update....

A law enforcement official tells FOX Boston that Aaron Hernandez "appears to be directly tied to the homicide" of "associate" Odin Lloyd in North Attleboro, Mass.

There are many important things to remember here, namely FOX 25 is not a typical Rotoworld source, and Hernandez has yet to be charged with a crime. That being said, the storm clouds appear to be gathering for the star tight end. FOX Boston reports Hernandez, Lloyd and two other men left a Boston-area bar in a car driven by Hernandez on the night of the homicide, but Odin was the only passenger not to make it back to Hernandez's house. Further, forensic evidence has reportedly placed a vehicle driven by Hernandez at "one of the crime scenes in (the) case." Police are still searching for a second vehicle. Thus far, Hernandez has declined comment.

I'm not a fan of the Patriots, but I do like the way Hernandez plays the game. It would be a big blow if Hernandez is sidelined. Let's hope the league isn't dealing with a Rae Carruth version 2.0 here.

I remember watching him at Florida and really thought he could play, was surprised he lasted that long in the draft. Always knew he had a questionable character.

Without pointing fingers it's looking more and more likely he is involved

Aaron Hernandez - TE - Patriots

ABC News reports that Aaron Hernandez destroyed his home security system and cell phone.

Police are back at Hernandez's home Thursday with a warrant based on evidence that he destroyed the home security system, which included video surveillance, intentionally. Hernandez also handed over his cell phone to investigators, and it was "in pieces." Additionally, authorities want to know why a house-cleaning team was hired to "scrub" the 23-year-old's mansion on Monday. One police official says Hernandez isn't a suspect, but he "has not been ruled out" and is "definitely not in the clear." The tight end sure isn't painting a pretty picture by destroying what could be deemed as evidence.

Both Sports Illustrated and the Boston Globe are reporting that Aaron Hernandez will "likely" be arrested in connection with the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Note that no one knows exactly what Hernandez will be charged with. Given that he was reportedly with the victim the night of the murder and is tied to him personally (their girlfriends are sisters), it seems likely the tight end at least has some information. It's unclear if Hernandez has even given his story to the police yet. Meanwhile, the media tracked A-Hern as he left his house in a white Audi SUV to go to Gillette Stadium and then to the gas station. He declined to make any comments.
