Player Watch Aaron Naughton - Something Special

I can’t believe this guy doesn’t have his own thread! He deserves his own thread.

This kid is something special! I don’t think there is a better player in the league at marking the high ball and attacking it as he does. Yes he needs to get some specialist training on his goal kicking but that will improve.

At 19 years old, he led the competition in contested marks. Last year he had a shocking interrupted injury season. At 21, he is again leading the competition with marks inside 50 and contested marks.

Bulldog fans have waited for someone like this since the Chris Grant,Beasley, Templeton days.

This kid has a leap like Modra, courage like J.Brown and hands like Stewart Lowe. Problem is he kicks like Levi Casboult.

If he can get his kicking up to above average, he will be the best forward of the next decade.

Sounds like Daniher 5 years ago, his kicking didn't improve.

Hopefully Naughton works on his better than Joey has so far.

Because when close to the goals they prefer placing the ball rather then kicking though it and there is not a constant action with their goal kicking

Jesse Hogan was better at the same age. Naughton is coming along very nicely, a joy watching him run and mark the ball high, kicking… not so much.

Melbourne supporters are insufferable. Hogan was and is always a lead up forward with little to no contested marking ability of Naughton.

Jamarra is certainly a more gifted forward, in terms of nous and goal kicking ability, but Naughton’s hands are stickier from what I’ve seen. Also has this sort of desperation when the ball is contested that I’ve never seen before. Attacks the ball in the air and on the ground with such speed and determination, even when he looks like he isn’t gonna get there, he makes sure it’s a contest.

Remains to be seen what Jamarra will do at this level. If he follows a similar trajectory as Naughton then the Dogs forward line will be ridiculous for the next 10 years (adding in English as well)

Maybe coz back in the day forwards stayed put, didnt chase defensively and werent tired when they did get a set shot. Naughton is a gun defensively, chases and runs all day, and still has 29 goals 26 so far this season. His kickings hardly at Casboult levels
He had an off night with the boots sunday (1 goal 6), but didnt grubby Greene kick 1-6 or 7 a couple weeks back? It happens, move on and dont blow Astros kicking out of proportion.

Naughton is a freak. Zero care for his own well being, sees the ball, gets the ball, which ever way required. Has shown on occasion that he owns kicking boots, just needs to wear them more often. Dogs best forward prospect since Grant, Beasley and Templeton.

Like Jamarra and Bont, you just want to watch him. Will attract the next generation of supporters.
