Re: Shattock comes to Port

We've got a gaggle of kids, its true, but right now we lack players with a developed body and an inclination to use it.

If Shattock was a few years younger, had more than just one 20-possession game but didn't have a premiership medallion...yet played the same style of game, then frankly we wouldn't have got him for what we traded, so its a moot point anyway.

Point taken re physical development... but that can only take you so far - just ask Rhett "Port-reject" Biglands and Ian "Packbuster and... well..." Perrie ;)

Re: Shattock comes to Port

or Ben `The Heavyweight Featherweight' Marsh.

We do know that Shattock isn't a big girl's blouse at least.

Re: Shattock comes to Port

Shattock doesn't seem to be to bad. Coming from Brisbane he would have had some decent training partners. Seems injury has not helped if ever it does. Now he is at Port, welcome aboard Aaron and lets see what you can do.

Re: Shattock comes to Port

And he's a Sacred Heart lad. Not that I like the school but they produce some nice players. He'll put himself about if when we give him his chance.

I'm content so far. Onto the draft.

Re: Shattock comes to Port

And yet despite these poor stats Leigh Matthews picked him week in week out in the lead up to the finals in 2002 and 2003 and right thru the finals in 2002. Despite injuring his knee in rd 22 of 2003 and missing the lead up finals he still made it as an emergency in the 2003 GF. Leigh Matthews judgement says something about him.

Then again Matty Connell used to rack up great stats didn't he? ;)

Re: Shattock comes to Port

I do rate this kid, seems to have fair skills and he goes in hard and has a crack. Will add depth to Port's midfield, and together with Francou, Cassisi, Ebert and Salopek should soften the blow of Carr leaving.

Port have done very well out of this trading period.

Re: Shattock comes to Port

lies, lies and damned statistics. None of it says how much game time he actually spent on the park.....

Anyway, welcome to the PREMIERS Aaron. Look forward to seeing you strut your stuff.

Re: Shattock comes to Port

Certainly from that photo, it looks like he doesn't mind himself!

The stats say nothing considering he was out for the last 12 weeks.

Looks like a bit of a cheeky bugger but I really think he could be a regular starting 18 player.

True, but at 24/25 and with 5 seasons in the comp under his belt you'd be hoping for a little bit more than a career average of 8.67 disposals per game - it's not as if he's a proven talent like Steven Salopek or Damon White who has only managed sporadic gametime and opportunities in his few years on the list and still has youth on his side.

If he racked up those numbers at anywhere but the Brisbane Lions he'd be struggling to stay on a list.

Hey, he could prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

A lot of us said the same thing about Mahoney this year and were proved wrong..........

Granted, but the obvious difference with Mahoney, as I stated earlier, is that he came for nothing (last pick in the PSD) and Choco told him straight up, 'come over, try your luck, and you might play anything from 0-5 games.'

The difference with Shattock is, he and pick #34 have come down from the Lions for picks #27 and #45 (roughly win/win or lose/lose). What I can't quite fathom is that he has a bit of reputation - similar to say to Tim Notting's - when in actuality his career record is strangely poor.

To be honest, before I checked up on Shattock's stats I thought the Power had recruited a player with closer to 75 games under his belt - and one you could count on to deliver 15 touches a game and the odd goal. But his numbers read like those of a true fringe player who has never delivered on what ever promise they have.

I also think that like with Jonathan Brown, players in Brisbane tend to get overrated and overhyped (Des Headland anyone?) and in Shattock's case he's clearly no different.

Happy to be proven wrong of course, you like to see all new recruits succeed - but I don't think he's at all the player some think they're getting, that's all.

Re: Shattock comes to Port

I agree that some Brisbane players gain hype, but like John Brown, for all that we like to talk down that hype, he's still not a bad player.

If Shattock was an effective tagger that we could count on to deliver 15 touches a game and the odd goal, we'd be getting a guy that would probably be in our top ten players. Not bad for the approximate equivalent of an early third round pick. However, I don't think anyone expects that.

He has hype, but we didn't pay the hype price to get him, so there's no problem.

At this juncture I reckon the first 22 is a bridge too far for Shattock if you're to incorporate White, Primus, Francou, Salopek and Ebert into the side in 2005.

Would Choco have brought him down simply to be an emergency?

Could well be another Cochrane.

Re: Shattock comes to Port

Yeah, could be.

My Mahoney reference is more in regard to not expecting him to do much but will be a handy depth player but if he shows the right attitude and commitment that Mahoney did he could possibly surprise.

That said I want to see the youngsters getting games before him during the real stuff but he'll get a few chances in the pre-season games to show us this supposed mongrel he has.

Hmmm... he's played 57 times since his debut in 2000, and has only cracked a 20-possession game once (in 2002 vs the Kangas).

Michael Doughty has greater credentials.

Bit easier getting a full game at the cows than it is at the Lions!

Thrustans wouldn't have any better credentials but i reckon more than a few clubs would be interested in him.

Shattock could well be a first 22 player at Port, as could Walsh, although i'd hope a few guys like Ebert & Salopek get some chances before them. But both are good numbers 20-26 players.

What is your opinion on him?

everyone seems to making him a scapegoat for some reason, but from what i've seen he seems a decent player. Kicks are not that great, but nothing that can't be workd on... Seems to be a decent find..

Why the hell towards him?

I don't get it either. He played pretty well against Brisbane and wasn't around to do much before injury on Saturday night.
