Rumour Ablett back to Geelong in 2016

Gary Ablett hasn't ruled out a return to Victoria when his current contract expires.

I think it's very unlikely that he'll end his career anywhere other than the Gold Coast. He seems pretty committed and that's the choice he made. He probably deep down does wish he was still in a team going deep into finals, but seems to love being a captain and leader at a young club.

What is it with these guys who have Dads as club legends yet they barrack for different clubs than the ones their Dads played for in the town which they were born and bred in. Matty Scarlett recently admitted that he was a Bombers fan growing up, now I hear the GAJ liked St Kilda! I was born in the early 80's in Geelong and lived there until 2005, it's my home town and I loved the club since I was young. I watched all 4 losing GF and all through that, I remember thinking how cool it would have been if your dad actually played for the club. Is it just one of those weird things where if you are so inundated with something you get to the point where you're so over it you revert to the opposite? I just can't for the life of me understand it.

Thats from November last year mate, he has been playing at Werribee and doing ok. Will see him on Sunday against our boys.

Well maybe I shouldn't say supporter. It's not like he went to games or anything. He just had a soft spot for them more a tounge in cheek thing. I'm sure he changed when he got older. He and bomber both said they were barracking hard for the cats in last year's grand final. Who knows?

Yeah he probably will - was reading recently that GC heavily front end loaded his contract which saw him get most of his $9m last year and is "only" going to get $300k ish or less for the remaining season.
Figures arent exact but it was something along those lines.

So he may have blown it all by 2015 and might need to come back to earn a living!!

If he is still relatively injury free & in good form I dont see why we wouldnt offer him $250k a year.....

I'm over it, he left us when the club needed him most and he will be 31 if he returns.

He's currently in his prime and as most have said many times...sad to see him at his peak, performing in such a poor team which won't feature in finals for at least 3+ years.
A player of his ability needed to be on the big stage and playing finals where Ablett belongs.

As the years begin to roll by...Am sure he'll start to doubt his decision to leave as premierships (chance to play finals in a good side) are permanent while money is not.

Once the pain of his breakup with Lauren has ended he'll realise he loves being a one man team demanding selfish handballs from the kids that won the ball.

Look on the bright side, at least he's playing for some made up plastic club on the gold coast with no fans to support him, a non threatening bottom team with no culture. I can handle that. If he went to a rival Melbourne club then yes it would be hard to take.
