I too rode the "No Ablett" train and can't help but feel vindicated to a dgeree. Certainly don't wish little gaz any ill will but this gamble may just've paid off.

I got some thinking to do in the next few days. Do I hold onto him or trade him???

I did think I would leave him on the bench, but now I'm leaning towards trading him out. Haven't done the sums yet but could upgrade 3 (maybe 4 if you go for those bottoming out) of Houlihan, Geary, Rich, Otten, Krakouer, Higgins to premiums. Or maybe 2 of Beams, Petrenko, Walker, Suban.

I am keeping him. The midfield was the only section of my team where i put some quality on the bench ( not a rookie etc) at the start of the season. That selection was Haselby and he has been good to me so far for the price i got him. ( Up 54k now)

Haselby will get a regular gig now in my midfield untill Gazza comes back.

Trade him at your own peril!!! Could only be out for 1 or 2 it is way to early to tell yet.

I dont believe the gamble paid off you missed the boat with ablett and it clearly wasn't paying off. In any case you missed out on his monster scores for 6 weeks and now he will free up a huge sum of cash if traded.

Truth is, if you don't have Ablett you have no chance anyway.

x2

I feel dirty for agreeing with a Carlton supporter, but this isn't a 'vindication' of not picking Ablett.

If he started sucking and scoring 90 for a few weeks... yep.. thats vindication.

Fact is he got injured. Anyone can get injured at any given time.

Not only did he provide monsterous amounts as points as captain, he made almost as much money as guys like Garlett, Robinson, Cheney, etc who were 'cash cows'.

Not sure what I'll do yet, but I could trade him for somebody like a Mitchell and fix up the glaring problem in my forward line with plenty of cash left over.

Well i was contemplating trading to free up a boatload of cash and now this makes the decision easier (i was trying to think outside the box)

I think i'll trade him and i reckon i will have close to a full team in 2-3 weeks :thumbsu:

Dont be racist. :)

Dont be racist. :)

I need a shower. :(

Tbh i don't really mind the Blues that much.. besides the fact that they tanked and cheated to get where they are.

Its the flog supporters, especially on bay 13, that i cant stand. ;)

Anyway back on topic..

I think GAJ is going to get the boot... lets me fix a leaking backline and forwardline with the free cash.

If you have been relying on having Ablett as Captain to win your rounds, then you probably didn't deserve success anyway.

Pleased I'm 3-0 without him.... he always gets injured along the way. Good decision UTG!!

Some of you might have to start thinking for yourselves!

I'm gunna trade him, great opportunity to get another couple of keepers..
Sure it takes away the luxury of not having to choose a captain every week.. but when he returns will he get enough TOG to pull big scores? Will he be out for 2-3 or will Geelong take extra precautions with their little superstar?? i know i would! 2-3 could easily turn into 5-6.
I'm not going to risk having 7.5% of my salary cap sitting on the bench.

Most of my stars failed on the weekend and now I lost Ablett. SC is pretty much ****ed for me this year, just gotta stick with hopefully jagging one of the weekly prizes.

What a ridiculous comment. Your captian is always important, no matter who it is.

If you lose your captain, then your chances of winning drop dramatically. You're meant to be able to rely on those points, that's why you get them.

Having the best player in the league as your captain, what's wrong with that? You'd be silly if you didn't. He's been more than worth the initial investment given his 140+ points average. And now it gives those that had him extraordinary options to upgrade.

Options not available to those that didn't. I'll be looking to Bartell/Sewell/Mitchell to replace GAJ and upgrading another mid tier player.

OUT: Gary Ablett, Daniel Rich

IN: Sam Mitchell, Marc Murphy

OR

OUT: Gary Ablett, Jared Petrenko

IN: Luke Power, Luke Hodge

I'm liking option 2, however Power is a bit of a risk with some up-and-down scores (50, 45). I could also go to Mark Coughlan and pocket $200,000 after he scored 100+ on the weekend. But I believe tis could be a waste of a trade as I'll just need to upgrade him later in the season.

ba ha ha ha what a rubbish article! You'd be stupid to trade Ablett out!

Correct, assuming he returns in 2-3 weeks and picks up where he left off.

Geelong will not risk their superstar unless hes 100% fit.

Even when he returns you would assume his TOG will suffer a little.

He only dropped $10k because of his 197 two weeks ago. Being conservative and assuming he averages 140 as soon as he returns he is estimated to drop about $50k.

$750k worth of points scoring ability sitting on your bench for a minimum of 3 weeks.

If you have 16+ trades, i think you'd probably trade him.

Less than 16, you need to evaluate your strategy.

An early xmas present...thank you!!

Been kicking myself not taking him which has been the difference between my current position of low 1900s and top 350!!! Now I can make a move up the ladder!

Your still 100's of points behind for not having Ablett in the first place. Just because he misses a few wont mean you will race up the rankings at all.

It is likely that your ordinary team will stay exactly where it is at best.

Don't stop kicking yourself now champ.

Is there a rule that once you trade out a player you can't bring them back in again? I am going to trade out Ablett and bring in Davis with the intention of getting Ablett back in the side later.

Hodge and Power are both out of form. Teams are tagging Hodge hard every game and yes he scored two 100s in a row before his 70 but i'd be weary. I'd personally take Drummond or Fisher (assuming his shoulder is ok) right now over Hodge.

I think everyone who trades Ablett out will want to get him back in.

Also anyone remember what happend to Juddy in 2007 after he missed a few games with a groin injury?
