Thats more the line going with. I think we will win well but I won't talk up our chances, I've been burnt before.

You won't be burnt tomorrow, trust me, we'll win and we'll win well.

Ready the champagne.

No, this is a stupid comment.

Do you think an 11 point win last week over Brisbane won us any respect in the football world? No.

Do you think a 2 goal win over the Gold Coast tomorrow will win us any respect in the football world? No.

We are playing a team who has a mixture of VFL players, rejects and under 19's tomorrow. There captain and best player is out injured. If ever there was a time to win back respect of the football community(including the MFC supporters), this is a perfect opportunity. Yes, we will get the 4 points, but nothing short of a smashing will win the club any respect.

Do you think a spanking will gain us respect of the football world? No, people will say Melbourne beat a bunch of kids, nothing more.

It doesnt matter how much we win at the end of the day (i want a spanking) but at the end of the day our draw negates a lot of percentage points.

Sorry Crusty but I think only falling over the line against Brizzy probably tought our young team alot more about themselves then a 100 point win. Melbourne in the past have gotton ahead of themselves. Almost losing a very winable game should show the team that they need to be switched on from the start everytime.

If you beleive GC is a vfl thumping them should be the standard but it won't make the footy world take much notice. As you said, they are not feilding their strongest team and they are a few years off, beating them by 100 proves nothing.

Ofcourse only beating them by say 2 goals will give many reason to worry, but a 20 goal win won't earn much respect.

I'd rather we just show that we are willing to win, head over the ball and run all day. I'd rather we create some leads, try and work on areas that are lacking and learn as much as we can over the next two weeks.

In saying that I hope we take this oppotunity to allow our forwards to kick some big bags of goals and get used to the idea, as that is one thing we can all agree is something needed from here on out.

We arent going to win any 'respect' against the Suns. Even if we smash them it will only be considered a pass.

Its a shame - this game should be an opportunity to try some new things like Watts as a deep forward, a few kick in set plays, and maybe a zone or press..

..but alas it has become a bit of a must win and win well game.

Basically the point I was trying to make in a more efficent manner. I could learn from this :thumbsu:.

I'd love to see use Watts deep in attack with one of those dog collars that shocks him if he leaves the attacking third of the ground.

Nothing from tomorrows game will get Melbourne respect, you said yourself we are playing against "VFL players, rejects and under 19's".

This whole concept of "respect from the football world" is also a crock of shit, who gives a flying monkeys anus what the other clubs or media think of us? The players shouldn't and I sure as hell don't give two shits about what Jon Ralph, Hutchy or even Malthouse thinks about the Melbourne Football Club.

Yeh we posted the same point at the same time. :thumbsu:

I understand Crusty's point - we want to hand out a flogging! But yeh i would prefer like you say - to play the ball through Watts at half forward, or play him in the goal square. Just try a few new things.

Sure, there probably isn't a lot of respect up for grabs against the Suns, but we sure as hell can lose some. A hammering today against the Suns and we do not lose any respect. A close win or a loss and we lose a lot in my eyes.

I think respect is what ALL clubs and supporters crave! How can you say respect means nothing??? Do you respect the way Collingwood are playing right now? Do you respect how Sydney ALWAYS give 110% in every match they play? Do you respect how Essendon have defied the odds this season and are playing the football we wish we could?

Melbourne has 0 respect in the football world right now. Haven't had any for quite awhile. You hear the players from all teams talk about winning the respect of other teams and the footballing public. You may not care about us gaining any respect, but I sure as hell want our club to be respected, and I hope to hell that the players and coaching staff feel the same way.

this *100. Almost every time we are meant to win a game, we find a way to let the other side in. Gee some people have short memories on this board. Remember 7 days ago? We were meant to smash Brisbane and fell over the line
