Since there has been some analysis on the pros and cons of keeping Ablett, I thought it would be interesting to get a feel for what people are thinking of what to do with the great man.

I'm keeping him. The way I see it, people who have Ablett are one of five things

1) Smart for keeping him.
2) Have a very large surplus of trades and are smart to trade him for Bartel.
3) Don't have a very large surplus of trades and are taking a big risk trading him for Bartel.
4) Will be copping zeroes until he comes back, in which case it's probably acceptable to trade him for someone like Bartel.
5) Do not fit into any of the above categories and therefore are idiots.

I would love to be in category 2, but I'm in category 1. Anyone who traded or is planning to trade Ablett for someone like Kornes but has reasonable bench cover which should average about 50, then think about the fact that Kornes will probably only average around 100-105 for the year, so you're gaining only about 150-200 points but will be losing 15 points a week when Ablett comes back, plus the extra points you'd get for having Ablett captain. Not a good trade at all.

Completely agree and that's why I'm keeping him. I have Coughlan to cover for him so I should be alright with that.:thumbsu:

Unfortunately I have the familiar Hartlett/Beams/Ablett/Robinson combo that has no alternative player left.

I am looking at trading Ablett for Bartel, which does sacrifice one trade, but within two to three rounds time I was going to have enough cash to pick up Bartel as a trade-up anyway. I'll just bring Ablett in then, he should drop a little in price after his next game considering he scored 90 last week - but havent totally decided on that move yet, might take someone else and forget Gazza.

also will have cogs as cover and he should net 80+ for the 3 weeks ablett is out which is more than acceptable and hey who knows gaz may only miss 2 and cogs could be a 6th mid keeper.

The only reason I am considering trading Ablett is the fact I still have all 20 trades left and can use it to bring in Bartel and upgrade someone like Wells/Pearce to a Kornes/Corey.

That would then leave me with a midfield of Bartel, Gibbs, Corey/Kornes, Wells/Pearce, J.Selwood, Rich, Otten & Anthony.

The question for me is if I traded Ablett when to bring him back in? are those thinking of trading intending on jettising him completely or getting him back a smidge cheaper in 3 or 4 weeks?

What if when he comes back he doesn't average 110+???

What then? Are you stupid for not spending the one trade and bringing in potentially 2 premiums instead and then losing 100k+ in value and stuck with an underperforming midfielder?

excellent point.

geelong are pretty good, they dont usually go soft on their players- even if they are a few games clear on top.

however, what if he re-injures or is hampered? if he's sore at say, round 18-19 he'll get a rest. if he feels a niggle during the game he'll be benched. (this isnt richmond). lots of question marks- isnt this the type of gear that resricted judd last year?

He's the type of player you just gotta have and the type of player that will want to come back as soon as possible. I think it will be 3 weeks, Thompson will make sure he's alright but when he comes back he may get less TOG (probably still 90-100) then it maybe 5 weeks of losing those points? Its a situation where you say hes too good to trade but too good to have on the bench.

I am still not sure but I think I am a risky sort of player and probably will end up trading him....and regretting it later. I have beams on bench anyway and I heard he may not play, so I will have to make a trade regardless the way I see it (Anthony is my other one, hes 1-2 weeks away).

Good luck to everyone though.

I've burned too many trades to get rid of Ablett now.

Have done a crapload of scenarios, and I'm thinking that I'll bench Ablett for the 3(ish) weeks that he's out, and will trade out Tuck and Otten (+ some cash) for Swan and Coughlan. I'm happy to finish the season with these two guys playing in my mids. It's a pity to get rid of Otten this soon, since he's got more cash to make, but I'm not sorry about ditching Tuck, who I don't really want in my final 6 mids.

Then when Ablett comes back from injury, I've only got 1 more keeper to trade in in my midfield.

If beams or Harlett play I wont trade, If neither play I will be getting a 0. I have enough coin to go ablett to corey, beams to murphy. But i really think Beams has more money to make me, he's not even 200K yet. What do ya think?

The other option is a sideways trade Beams to Coughlan, not 100% sure I want to do this, as it would mean Cogs would be a keeper.

Geez imagine if you picked whitecross and moss, you would be way ahead of the pack imo.

I still don't know even after drawing out rough plans for the next few weeks in both scenarios (will most certainly be ruined by more injuries). They both turn out similar.

Just going to base it on copping a zero or not in midfield. (Non)/Selection of Beams, Robinson and Zaharakis will be interesting.

Ziebell has come off the reserves for Ablett.

(and Zaharakis has come off the reserves for Ablett in my SC)

So I've decided to keep him, as I've had to make trades elsewhere to not get donuts in the 22, should be fine... (I had to also trade Lucas and put Houlihan on the reserves...)

I've traded him. Not because I wanted to, but because I copped a stack of injuries and just cant cover him for 3-4 weeks. If all works out I'll upgrade one of Rich/Otten to him in a few weeks when he returns :D lol

Hmm i've analysed my options.

Without going into too much detail i'd like to hear which scenario people would much rather end up with. I've purposely left out names so it doesn't influence the choice.

Would you rather have:

A) 15 Trades left :: $33k :: With no playing subs :: 2 Mid upgrades needed :: One sub can be cashed, one is rookie priced

B) 15 Trades left :: $7k :: One playing sub :: 2 Mid upgrades needed :: Both subs are rookie priced

For the record there's an article in tmrw's Herald/Sun written by Gary Ablett Jr in which he says he might play next week against the kangas, at worst he says he'll be back for the doggies game.

I have Ablett. Chose to bench him. You don't trade premium talent because he's injured for 'supposedly' 2 weeks.

You've gone and posted this same thing in every remotely relevant thread on the board, you'd better hope he returns soon...

If he's not back and scoring 100+ by round 9, you will look like a right old goose

Meh, traded him out for Murphy who got 130. Gave me the money to get SJ as well who got 149. Would've copped two 0's otherwise and now in a very tight game versus the top of the ladder side. Should get the win now :) I've had too many injuries to be able to carry $510k on the bench unfortunately.
