Ablett sets record straight

Must have been quiet in the Sheds down there - rumour has it he didn't talk to Cook much in the last 6 months and I know he barely spoke to one of 2009 Draftees ( despite him playing a few very promising games in the 1's )
Sounds like the dummy was well and truly being spat all over the place !!

It's almost christmas. When will you get over it?

Sort of. Had Ablett been honest and upfront much of this would have been averted. However player contract issues are admin matters and not an area a coach should be concerned with.

Geez I feel for Frank. And Chris as well :(

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

You say that Ablett should have been honest, and it could have been averted. Well, let's look at that, under the only two situations possible:-

1) That he hadn't decided, or signed anything with anybody- in which case, Bomber's behaviour played a pivotal part in Ablett leaving.

OR

2) Ablett signed with GCS before the 2010 season- This is the more likely scenario. If so, Ablett couldn't divulge anything anyway, because (a) Bomber would have sacked him on the spot (if Bomber goes postal about Ablett not making a decision, imagine if Ablett had admitted to signing with GC) and we would have been denied having Gary Ablett for most of 2010 as well. And (b) the players who signed had confidentiality clauses in their GC contracts (so blame the AFL for allowing GCS to be allowed to signed CONTRACTED players before the last season of their contract. Does Geelong, or any other club, get the same priviledge).

More should be said of the AFL's attempts to remove Gary Ablett from Geelong to Gold Coast. Never has the AFL played such a major part in orchestrating one player to go to a certain club.

All i can say is VERRRRRRRRY MESSSSSSSSY

Pity it came to this, but thanks for the flags.

Who knows, we could become a stronger club for all this.

How funny would it be if Thompson and Hird had an argument. Bomba raises hand at Hird "talk to the hand" i can see it now :D

One thing I do question about what Ablett said.

He said that he and Mark Thompson had a big row. Was it a one-sided argument, since I have never seen Mark Thompson be postal in his life? It is more likely that he sat back in his chair, talking to Ablett, with his feet on the desk, and eating a sandwich.

One of my main criticisms of Bomber was always that, other than GF 2009, Bomber never showed any emotion in the box. He never got upset, or was happy , or sad, or anything. Bomber was too laid-back, and seemed to lack any urgency in the box. I now see this as him not caring enough about what happened to us.

If Bomber can coach us like that in autopilot, imagine if he gave a damn. We would have never lost a game for four years!

Whatever criticism you level at Thompson must apply at least 10 fold to GAJudas. From all the evidence presented before us little Judas knew what his decision was probably as early as December 2009; that is gleefully grab an unjustifiably (for this competition) large sum of AFL (not GC’s since they have none) lucre unethically cobbled up by the corrupt admin to give their little plastic monstrosity much needed credibility.

Thompson saw right through this insulting farce, that is the little gimps plan to string the club along throughout the whole year persisting with giving patronizing false hope etc.. (until sugardaddy dimwitrou gave him and all his other mercenaries mates the okay to reveal all at the end of the year) and called him out on his bullshit back in April.

Good on Bomba I say. Nobody else at the club had the cojones to confront this little cowardly weasel so it was up to him to deliver a few home truths and let him have it. I’m proud to have had such a man at our club at a time when nobody had the courage to stand up to a player who had no scruples in disrespecting our club and do the AFL’s bidding when the league’s CEO bought him and his family off.

I can completely understand why Bomba couldn’t stomach being around this club anymore. Being a sycophant to 1 player, no matter how talented, is a distasteful foreign concept for a guy who comes from a highly successful team Premeirship culture in the ‘80s. If were ever to repeat our recent success Geelong officials must grow some balls, learn from this and never allow another individual hold us to ransom like this ever again. :thumbsu:

Someone sounds jealous that they, in their wildest wet dreams, wouldn't be offered anywhere near the money Ablett was offered. Maybe if you played football, instead of being a bottom-feeder of some type, you would make decent money, and not feel so insecure as to worry what other people are paid.

It must suck being you!

Two massive self absorbed ego's sniping at each other through the media. Thank god they aint Geelong people.

So how about them Cats eh?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Would you feel the same way (i.e. thank God they are not Geelong people), if both Ablett and Thompson had stayed?

I have. We were at a match at Etihad vs Bulldogs and they slaughtered us in the first qtr. It was Telstra Dome back then - somewhere around 2004-06 - the Bulldogs got over 50 points ahead and then we started playing and whittled the lead back to less than 4 goals in the final quarter before Kelly missed a sitter on the run and took the steam out of the team. Thomson's qtr time address was one for the ages. We were up in the 3rd tier and we could hear him going absolutely ape at the players quite clearly. The words were indistinct but the tone and aggression was crystal. We were laughing about it because, quite frankly, the players stunk and deserved it. :p

the feud between Bomber & Gazza is rather pointless now. Both are no longer Geelong people so who gives a stuff. Can't change the past. Bring on 2011

Agree.

Everytime either of them opens their mouths all I do is love Selwood more. What a contrast.

Bring on 2011 I say!

Nope I'd be pissed at them both for dragging us into this bitch fight. I only give a rats about the Geelong FC, everyone outside of it can have a nice day.

So you have a go at him because he doesnt rant and rave? Blow up in the box and tear his hair out? I'd much rather a cool calm methodical calculated coach.

"Imagine if he gave a dam?" Give me a spell, what a suprise its school holidays...

Feuding between the playing list and the coach has destroyed other clubs seasons and gotten people fired. It is pretty impressive we churned out so much good footy when everyone knew what was going on.

However, Mark was the bloody coach and should have been more professional. Players can hissy fit and whinge, but a coach can't not talk to the teams best midfielder and plonk him in a forward pocket for personal reasons. Just as well Gaz is enough of a pro & gun to dominate the forward line too.

You need a coach like Frawley to help you get perspective. The 'I wear my heart on my sleeve' excuse will have you asking how many times in your job, that probably pays less, you are able to solve anything by visible emotion regardless of your occupation. (If you are a Hollywood actor then I apologise)

I like the Coaches who realise that they are not out on the field anymore and need to be in control. Guys like Roos who will laugh just to keep himself from thinking he can help the team by acting like a twat.

Guys like Malthouse are not at thier best when they show thier emotions, they win premierships when they keep thier heads.

I like your passion and skills at expressing your passion, BUT I find myself disagreeing with many points.

Ablett had every right to wait until he did before informing us, much as we deplore the end result.

Reliable sources, as have been mentioned on too many other threads, suggest Ablett was still pondering his decision when he said he was undecided.

Bomber's petulant attitude would not have made it difficult for Ablett to look for greener pastures, and definitely cost him this year's B&F, and possbly the Brownlow.

Are you suggesting Bomber left because of the club's obsession with Ablett and their lack of dealing with him with authority? That is farcical. Bomber had many alleged dealings with Essendon mid-late season. He admitted he was burnt out pre finals and that may have cost us. Ablett at least can walk away from Geelong KNOWING he did everything in his power to get us up for each game he played.

This situation may never arise again at Geelong because this guy is a once in a generation player. We couldn't keep him and that is what sucks. People like Bomber are very replaceable, and in fact, Scott will probably be a God-send.

You totally miss a number of points.

Bomber is so passionate about Essendon and wanted to breed the same culture at our club. Costa for all his business nous is soft, but probably kept Bomber at the club post 2007. Cook and Bomber are not on great terms, and have not been post 2006.

Bomber knows what the Ablett name means to GFC, and knows what has been involved in the development of the Judas boys. He does have some insight we lack.

Judas was signed and sealed a long time ago, listen to Cook's comments on the issue and the negotiations. Pickering played the game well with his offsider in Hutchy leaking crap along the way. Look at the evidence, and it will guide you to the truth. THE AFL with its network paid for the overseas trip for 25 Ablett clan members. Judas just played the game.

Bomber got angry with the crap going on, as he is a control freak.

Judas was all about self, as his brownlow medal comments clearly show.

Bomber's exit was crap, but he is loyal to the core. Judas is a money focused tosser.

GFC supporters need to remember the JUDAS family flogged their family gear before leaving to make sure they ripped every dollar out of loyal supporters.

Judas piss off, the truth will come out.

And can you please elaborate on the photo that the Sun wanted to publish of your old man when he was playing but was pulled.

Over Judas and out.

Your repeated reference to "Judas" is inappropriate, unless you think we're going to be crucified next year and finish bottom because Ablett sold out on us. All year guys like Mooney and Harley said the offer was too good to refuse. Anyway, whatever the TRUTH is, it's not going to be helpful to us.

harley said that gaz should stay but would go as he didn't care about the consequences of his actions

as for moons i would not care what he said, as 2 years ago he was contemplating going there himself
and now that his career is just about over he wants to live closer to geelong to prolong his career (and get another contract)

we were crucified with the judas trade - even judd wanted to look after wce more than gazz the cats

Sen have pickers trying to tell us the gazza story
worth a listen

ha ha so gazza is the son of god and judas all in one. It's like a rerun of that horrible movie "The last temptation of Christ" Instead in our version Jesus is offered $800,000 sheckles a year to play for the Roman Suns. Maybe Bomber can play Satan?

Yeah. That approach never worked for Ron Barassi, did it? Just ask Carlton and North Melbourne.

Well done Gary for sticking upo for yourself. You were bullied all year by Thompson(and from a source within the club for all of your career) whilst the club stood back and let it happen. Despite the public humiliation, and possible loss of the Brownlow and B&F, to kept quiet and continued to play great footy.
You were contracted until the end of Oct 2010 and like Thompson in 2007 did not have to say what you were going to do until the end of that contract.
However it is clear that after your Brownlow win in 2009 the club could have signed you in a new Contract.
Unlike Thompson you did not winge about loyalty( ask who pushed one of our fitness coaches out early after Cook agreed to him staying unitl the end of the season) you played like someone who loved and respected our club. Unlike Thompson who clearly did not.Thank goodness there was somewhere for you to go and many of us, whilst being heartbroken, wish you well.
You will always be ours and will be welcomed back at anytime. That ex Coach will not.

You can dislike bomber more if you please however please spare us who is more loyal.

Gary Ablett is far FAR from it. HE approached THEM. Im sure if the weagles offered him twice what GC did he would go there for the 'new challenge' to. Will not forgive him for that. Thompson is just an idiot, completely losing the plot, how you can not communicate with your star player is just beyond ridiculous.

Just keep reminding yourselves......2 premierships. I would take all this drama all over again for another 2. Tom Hawkins develops into a multiple 100 goalkicker, gets offered 5 million a year by the Northern Territory Hurricanes while Scott preaches loyalty but then takes over from the completely incompetent Michael Voss.
