So what if Selwood was at GC and we had GAJ?
Would Selwood have helped GC win more games than GAJ has?
Probably not but I bet their "culture" wouldn't have fallen to pieces. Guys like Bennel, Dixon might still be there.

Pretty sure that's what Bombers fans think about James Hird.Couldn't give two pinches of shit what opposition fans think of him. They're going to mark him down subconsciously through their bias against him because he's wrongly perceived to be a ducker.
Couldn't give two pinches of shit if he's put in the best mids of the modern era debate or if he needs an awesome end to his career. He's a great of our club, wonderful captain and a brilliant midfielder. Will be AFL HoF as soon as he becomes eligible.
Everything else. Well who gives a **** frankly.
We have lost 5 of our past 6 finals. Does this mean selwood doesn't play well in finals? If so is he really that valuable?Ablett's a better player by far but I'd rather Selwood in my team due to the fact that when he plays well you usually win.

No i was comparing a fans perception of the importance of neutrals views. Pretty ordinary reasoning ability you have there.Comparing Selwood to a drug cheat now?
Geez mate that's pretty ordinary.
Selwood plays well in finals... hell the only reason we were even close at half time the last time we played the Hawks in a final is because Joel was carrying us.We have lost 5 of our past 6 finals. Does this mean selwood doesn't play well in finals? If so is he really that valuable?

Spot on......I'm surprised Joel hasn't needed back surgery the amount of times he's carried Geelong. I only wish we had a few more 'Joel's' at GeelongSelwood plays well in finals... hell the only reason we were even close at half time the last time we played the Hawks in a final is because Joel was carrying us.
Ahhhhh. The Melbourne' theoryI wish were a "joke of the highest order" currently.
It apparently means we'd be the most talented young side, soon to win multiple Premierships.
Exactly, which means the post i was quoting was rubbish.Selwood plays well in finals... hell the only reason we were even close at half time the last time we played the Hawks in a final is because Joel was carrying us.
Yep i could of used any of those players. In fact i didnt even have to use a football analogy. I could of used bogans and pauline hanson, dung beetles and their views on the taste of poo or even Neo nazis and hitler. None of the comparisons tarnish selwoods name in any manner unless you arent all that bright and think any sort of association with something unsavoury tarnishes all those associated. Which is ridiculous and frankly worrying. No you didn't, you could have compared ANY other player but instead chose to use Hird as your example.
Could have easily said Mitchell is a sniper, or Fyfe is a bad user of the ball or any other players with questions over aspects of their game yet you went with a bloke who has systematically destroyed a club by drug cheating.
Feign ignorance all you like, you knew exactly what you were saying.
Different players to all of those you mention.Once in a lifetime? I've seen both abletts and Carey in my lifetime and I'm hoping my lifetime goes many many more decades. How is Selwood once in a lifetime?
So every player is once in a life time then considering none are the same.Different players to all of those you mention.
In discussing the comparison, I wonder if joel's perceived loyalty is the reason why people prefer him over Ablett.
Ablett is by far the best player I've seen since his dad.
Have no doubt his disloyalty has tarnished his legacy at Geelong, but he's still a level above Joel.
Selwood has the heart of a lion and the courage of Buddha but his game has flaws which is why he will never be remembered as one of the greats.
He'll go down as another Garry Hocking.
I'd have to say I disagree with this post entirely. Sel is the best clubman and captain we've ever had. He carried the weight of a side on his back for 2 seasons when the older blokes fell away. He works tirelessly behind the scenes in terms of membership and promotion, always fronts the media and never talks down on the boys or the club. I'd say he lacked the ability of some of the more skill blessed players.........He won't be remembered as a great he'll be remembered as a champion in my eyes!![]()
For me, he's already great, and has broken the mold of the flashy, talented, but unreliable star of the GFC.
The guy exudes raw courage, character, and is a warrior who has lead by example against all odds, despite the odds, and who simply refuses to quit.
Every player is flawed. Name one who isn't / hasn't been?
This guy is up there for his ability to lead, to achieve things single-handedly, to nurture belief in others.
I'd go to war with him.
He personifies all of the cliched traits of leadership.
Yep.
I'd have no hesitation getting in the trenches with him.
Well, I'll leave you to your digging. To be honest I'm not a fan of trenches.
I said usually win. Also Selwood can't help if we're outcoached. We have lost 5 of our past 6 finals. Does this mean selwood doesn't play well in finals? If so is he really that valuable?
