Not sure there's a lot of point if that's the case if it only allows us to draft outside the top 30 picks
Doubt they'll go that far. I'd grudgingly accept a rule that allowed us to match X number of first rounders in an X year period. Though not just a max of one per year, because what if we have three years of no first round academy talent and then two in one year? But three in three years would probably be fair.

Character probably an unfair term to use, he may well be a ripping character. More to do with behaviour based stuff, which I have heard pretty directly.
Possible he'll grow up, but I can't blame the Suns for being wary after how much Hunt and Bennell set them back early on.

Might be a case of not having enough draft capital to match 2 high picks.
Gold Coast hold Port's, Collingwood's and their own first round picks, plus their own second round pick. They'll auction off Port's pick for a points upgrade, and possibly their own as well. North with picks picks 20 and 21 and Essendon with picks 23 and 25 are in prime position to trade up.

LIONS ACADEMY PROSPECT EYES RETURN
Brisbane Academy prospect Harrison Bridge is aiming for a return to the field later in the year after an ankle injury ended his under-18 carnival prematurely.
Bridge played in the Allies' first game of the Marsh U18 Boys National Championships against South Australia but went down with the syndesmosis ligament strain and ankle fracture, ruling him out of the remainder of the carnival.
But the sharp-kicking half-back is aiming to return later in the season with the Lions' VFL side to show his wares ahead of the November national draft.
He averaged 20 disposals in Brisbane's four Coates Talent League games this year, including a two-goal effort against Oakleigh in its final match, and is one of three Lions Academy players in the Allies squad, alongside potential top-five pick Daniel Annable and tall prospect Isaac Waller. – Callum Twomey

Here’s the under discussed thing - the AFL doesn’t want us to be a basket case again. Too expensive, too annoying to fix so that they have a strong club in Queensland. More than anything else they want Gold Coast to stop being such a cash drain. So the academies aren’t going anywhere soon.

The points system has changed just this year making it difficult for either the Queensland or Sydney teams to take multiple players like last year especially if the players are high picks. If the academies continue to stay strong this point system will be further modified to make it fair.

So St Kilda have a nga kid called Kye Fincher, who was added to their academy just this year, plays for Sandringham and is draft eligible this year. Parents are Aussie. But he was born in Hong Kong when his mum was working there for a short period of time.

Sandringham have a squad of 70, with 7 top and bottom aged kids tied to St Kilda's nga.

Clips of Dan Annable & Isaac Waller in their VFL debuts in Round 11.

Dan Annable #63

Isaac Waller #55

Thanks Crusha

Comparing Annable’s first VFL game to the Ashcroft boys, I can’t see him going at number one in the draft, unless of course if it’s a weak draft. He ‘s a definite talent but doesn’t seem to have the elite afl ceiling at this stage. Certainly too good not to draft.

Waller, rookie list potential on that showing?

What do you think?

Excuse my french, shit coach, shit administration.
Not sure I can excuse it. Not one word of that was French. Try: "entraîneur de merde, administration de merde"

This draft is considered weak. According to some draft watchers (who work in media) last year’s top six kids would all be ahead of this year’s draft crop.

No doubt St Kilda will refuse to draft them on principle

Wow, Richmond really were smart getting lots of picks in last year. Though their trade with North doesn't look like as great a robbery in hindsight.

Will still be a second round pick for about pick 3 or 4. Still an absolute steal

No it still bad from North.

This draft might be weaker, but there's still talent at the top end, and Richmond still likely have pick 4 from that trade for two picks that will be in the late 20's. So Richmond probably has picks 3 and 4 this year, which will get them two from Sharp, Duursma, Duff-Tytler, Greeves and Lindsay. Or the draft capital for Harley Reid.

I'm not arguing it isn't. I just thought everyone in North's administration should have been fired on draft night last year for making such a horrifically stupid trade. Now I think it's still extremely poor value for North but not quite as dire as it seemed then.
