The further east in Australia you go, the closer the Aussie accent comes to being Kiwi.

the further west you go in aus, the closer to knowhere you go.

I like a womans aussie accent.. dunno why others dont much.

How can anyone say "English"???

Whenever I hear a girl with an English accent, I think of that Simpsons episode where Burns is building a casino, and considers calling it "The Britannia"....

"Freshen ya drink, guv'na?"

For mine, American (God forgive me), Irish, Italian, Spanish.

I'm working with a Kiwi, a Canadian and a Pom at the moment. Unfortunatrly they are blokes. Those are my favourite accents.

If a chick has an English accent, she has to be from Lancashire. ****ney? No thank you. Irish isn't bad either.

The worst accents are those done by Americans trying to do other countries accents.

Ever heard Americans try and do an Aussie or Pommie accent? The worst part is when they refer to Australians as Ossies, it is pronounced Ozz, not Oss!

I suppose it is a bit like their comedy, they seem to think they are great at it everyone else just thinks they are s**thouse!

people say british, but which part? I certainly don't think much of the midlands accent (birmingham), or the exaggerated c ockney accent.

Think Colin Firth...yummmmmmy.

Not overly fond of yanks or Canadian accents. Growing up with my Mum I never actaully notcied hers until all my mates say wow, your mum has such a cool accent...

Aussie accents are well sexy (mmmm those Neighbours girls......)

To all the ladies who like Irish accents: Call me!

I love those Italian and Spanish accents too:)

Which Irish accents in particular do you like? Is it the Leprechaun-style begorra accent? I myself have more of a Bono/Bob Geldof accent (or so I'm told)

I find slight-husky accents sexy. Also, having recently travelled through Sweden, Denmark & Holland, I must day I don't mind their accents either (even better when they are blonde in pig-tails too :D ).

I find I change my accent depending on who I'm talking too - eg. hanging aroung Italian-Australians, I will talk like them. Does anyone else change their accent depending on who they are conversing with?

BTW, reckon Irish accents are great too (not necessarily sexy though).

Agree actually.
Noone cares, but the other day I said a word in Italian with a Florentine accent... scary.

Australian and Scandanavian do it for me. English and American accents are too damn annoying, although I get a giggle out of the way Poms speak.

I like the irish accent that Natascha McElhone faked in Ronin :)

yeah don't mind the "posh" english accents, like what colin firth did in bridget jones, but the exaggerated c ockney accents, a la jamie oliver, can get annoying.

lots of actors can't do good irish accents, like tom cruise in far and away and richard gere in The Jackal. the exception is daniel day-lewis IMO.

people who say they like scandinavian accents, have you ever heard tommy makkinen speak? :D

You'd all probably hate mine, then.

Question - Is it easy for Australians to tell Americans and Canadians apart? For most Americans it isn't hard, but the differences may be more obvious to us.

Many American accents actually evolved from Irish ones, which is interesting because so many people seem to like one but not the other.

My personal favourite to listen to is a Scottish accent, though I wouldn't really call it sexy. It is also my favourite to imitate.

The reason why Americans are poor at doing Australian accents is because it is difficult. In fact, I think it is probably the single most difficult accent for Americans to do properly.

It is easy to get it half right, but difficult to get completely right, and the reason is because there are a lot of subtle similarities to some British accents (not all), which would cause the person attempting it to come across as too British when doing it. Your mouth has to labour a lot more, too.

My wife says I'm good at it, but I'm still too embarrassed to try it in front of anyone else.

Easy.. just ask the person in question to say 'out'. If they're Canadian you'll be having a good chuckle in no time :p

Irish and Scottish, my word yes, then English.

Although some people just have an annoying way of talking, whatever the accent.

State accents in Australia are pretty easy to pick. It's all about the vowel sounds. And whether you add "ay" or "but" to the end of your sentences.

Got told (by a Kiwi) that South Australians have the most "Kiwi-like" accent. What the - ?

I've noticed this as well. There are some words a typical South Aussie pronounces like a Kiwi.

West Aussies tend to have slight English accents, not really noticable unless you are trying to pick it. I think NSWelshman and Queenslanders speak the same as us Victorians, unless you people think otherwise.

Queenslanders are a world unto themselves, West Aussies are nothing like Brits in the way they speak, South Aussies would be closer IMO.

The Kiwi accent is a shocker, went out with one for a while and I found myself taking the puss ununtintinally.

Some British accents rock, was seeing a woman from London a year ago and her voice was enough to get me going. I hate those whiny British accents though, I think it's a Yorkshire accent (a la Geoff Boycott) and that bloke from The Streets annoys the heck outta me.

I thought when I 1st moved to Perth that WA people spoke a bit slower than SA people. & Vic people tend to speack quicker & pronounce words different.
