SO true!!! I get so annoyed when there's all these slow people walking in front of me. & I think my finace's (who's originally from Sydney) has been here in PErth too long now, cos he's always complaining that I walk too fast! :D

Whenever I'm out at a social function, or generally in public, I always get either one of two questions, 15 to 20 times a day, minimum...

"What part of the States are you from?"

California, just for sake of argument... and San Jose specifically.

Or.....

"Are you American or Canadian?"

American, definitely! There is nothing about me that suggests that I, or my accent, is Canadian. :mad:

Frankly, confusing a American with a Canadian is akin to confusing an Australian with a New Zealander. Results may be liable to offend...

You said the same about mine following the last BigFooty Game, about it being as strong as it seems to appear, but I've never thought of it that way. Maybe because I've had to listen to it my entire life.

For those of the rest of you who have actually heard me speak, would you agree?

I won't even bother hiding my American accent anymore, and I doubt I'll ever lose it. Makes me stand out, I guess...

Why would you be offended? Canadians rock. I can understand a Canadian offended by being called an American however. :)

Fair enough.

And I've known some really nice people in my life experiences who just happened to be Canadian. Nothing wrong with that. :)

And I never said that I was offended... I just said that I am confused whenever I get the "Are you American or Canadian?" question... and if you ever heard me speak, you might be able to relate to that.

My mum gets a bit sh*tty when strangers say "whereabouts in America are you from?"

i cant STAND accents!!! i love the aussy accent, but thats about it!

i sometimes like them at first, but after that, i cant stand them. ive always had a thing for skips and the accents only make it better :)

I've noticed that people from WA and NSW have slightly different accents. Like to say "today" in WA sounds more like "Two-day" whilst in NSW it sounds more like "Two-daaaaay". You can perfect the sound by squeezing your fingers on your nose.

Although I don't really know the WA accent, it seems to me that the SAans have retained the English accent more (IMO too) than what the Eastern Staters have.

Yep, I get both of those frequently, although surprisingly I get the second one more often than the first one.

Mobbenfuhrer used it as a sledging device in the last BigFooty match, to great effect :)

Wisconsin is in the far northern U.S., only separated from Canada by a great lake, so we aren't far removed. I have never really picked up the thickest Wisconsin/Minnesota accent (think Maude Flanders or the movie "Fargo") since I haven't lived there my whole life, but for some reason I tend to sound more Canadian than most.

Maybe it is because I tend to be more soft-spoken than the stereotypical American male.

I don't mind it really. Canadians are great people. I listen to their rock bands, watch their comedy, and follow their national sport with interest.

Stealth is a Mid-West Nebraskan transplanted to Wisconsin. My family is Wisconsin transplanted to Missouri. I think I talk "KCish." But when I'm drunk or ****ed off, it comes out a bit more Northern. I'm guessing I may sound quite a bit like him other than the fact I am decidedly not soft-spoken.

I don't know if it is an annoying sprach. The only BigFooty Aussie to ever hear me speak is TigerTank. He hasn't complained (in that charming accent of his). :D

The Merseyside accent's pretty cool, c*ckney's ok, I like the Scottish accent, the Irish accent particularly on Irish girls is cool, the broad Seuth Afrikhan akscent's a bit much for me but some mild South African accent's are ok, the New Zealand is ok if it's mild otherwise it's too much.

The Canadian accent's ok as too most American ones unless their too broad , I like the southern drawl. When I was in the States I was asked a couple of times whether I was from the Carolinas apparently I speak like a North Carolinan :confused: But then again at various times I've been accused of being from the country, Irish, Scottish and English due to my speech, I guess I just speak funny.
 
Seriously, do people from other countries like Aussie accents?? Just seems to me whenever I can clearly hear an Aussie accent, say on a tv show, we sound like the biggest bogans ever.
