My aunt is the same. She lived in mount gambier for most of her life, is not in any way British, but she sounds it pretty much perfectly. Damn South Australians.

French is the best accent imo. German is a horribly disgusting accent, with a worse language.
As others have mentioned British for a girl is good.

Same as my father who was born in South Australia

My theory on why they have a cultivated accent is because South Australia was never a convict colony, which made it an elitist and upper class colony thus producing their accent.

I find the German accent to be totally unappealing. I'm not a big fan of English accents, but I've heard a few that have been nice. South African, Kiwi, Scandanavian and Asian accents I also find unappealing.

Accents that appeal to me are French, Russian, American, Canadian (especially French-Canadian) and also accents from countries where the French language is spoken.

Ooh-la-la!

A softly spoken(and understandable) Scottish accent, Irish and Upper Class English School Mistress accents are nice (female only). Eastern European are good also.

At the bottom of the barrell are South African, Asian, Kiwi and Victorian (I went to Malbourne to go to the zoo and saw an Alephant. I was thirsty and dying for a be-yah but the pub was mull-yon miles away)

Makes you wonder how SA became the bogan hellhole that it is.

Can listen to an Eastern European babe all day. The Queen's English is like music to the ear. Don't mind the saffer accent but it's definitely not my favourite. The softly spoken Welsh accent is definitely underrated imo.

Might throw a curveball and mention the Anglo-Indian accent. Indian babes who are well educated are a massive turn on.

Hate - Scottish, Northern Englanders, Germans, Swedes and South Australians.

less irish convicts, more wealthy (read: educated) free settlers and more german colonists who adopted 'proper' english in a pure form

all germanic accents on chicks ftw. swedish, danish, dutch, german:thumbsu: prolly just cos i associate those accents with fit girls who treat sex as sport and don't know what selfconsciousness is

Bit of a contradiction there matey. I grant you there are some well spoken Victorian's but they are in the minority. Even the well educated and privately schooled Malbunite's still get their A's and E's mixed up. And it's here and beer, not heyah and beyah.

Nah you monkeys butcher Her Majesty's English and turn it into a bad caricature. Most South Australians I've heard speak sound like Christopher Pyne though, so my perception of your accent might be tainted.

Step me through how 'beer' and 'Melbourne' should properly be pronounced.

South African is the worst accent around.

One of my best mates is South African and I can't stand being around his family.

Gloria from modern family has a great accent. I think it's Colombian.

American is okay. I'm not as against it as a lot of people are.

I like the English accent, hate the Kiwi accent.

Half of my family are from Adelaide and they have a terrible accent.

Good: French (by daylight and some more), southern English, well spoken Scottish, Eastern European (think Ana Ivanovic), Russian (think Anna Kournikova), Spanish, Dutch, some American.

Bad: South African, Kiwi, German. All awful.

I was going to post my own but you pretty much nailed it. I was even going to use Ana Ivanovic as an example.

Only one I can think of adding is Colombian but that might have more to do with Sofia Vergara's epic tittays

Maybe you have the Alexander Downer Adelaide accent?

Nah definitely not as plummy as him. Probably sound a little bit like a latter-day Morrissey:

Not exactly sure how that has come about, but just seems to be the case.

French or Dutch are the best for women. Russian, German or Jamiacan the best for a bloke.

Chinese easily the worst.

English girls seem have a very feminine and cute accent that I can't resist.

But its true, this is bar Liverpool horrific city and accent, Manc accent is fantastic though.

He's from Mirfield in West Yorkshire, more BBC than Yorkshire in terms of accent though.

Yeah, he doesn't sound very much like a Yorkshireman. Michael Parkinson is a Yorkshireman and his accent sounds noticeably different to Patrick Stewart's. Hmm ....

And then Geoff Boycott is altogether different again although he is from Fitzwilliam, right next to Barnsley. Patrick Stewart, Parky and Boycs all share another thing in common in that they are all arrogant pricks.

I am quite hurt by all the hate for Northern English accents. The Yorkshire accent is grand ! Daphne from Frasier with her Manc accent does it for me though.

I can listen to French accents forever, male or female but only like Scottich accents on women. I actually like a lot of Southern US accents, mainly on women though.
