Have a great time! I always stay down in St Kilda at a great value place in The Cosmopolitan Hotel, and just tram it in to the grounds... awesome walkability in St Kilda, and every year we've run into a few of the Eagles guys there having breakfast.

Usually there are a few weekends in the fixture that are good options for catching a cracker WCE game plus a block buster between two melbourne teams... but this season seems light on for that option apart from Round 7 and Round 23.

Im going to eye off heading over for Round 23 - should be a big last weekend before finals with us playing the Hawks (and likely jockying for finals ranking advantage), plus Ess v Pies, and to a lesser extend Carlton v Saints.

So just to double check what I assume by common sense - with that floating fixture in Round 23, the home team cant change right - WCE v Hawks has to be played in Melbourne?

Great suggestion.

I live in St Kilda and yeah no.96 tram takes you straight to corner of Bourke and Spencer and then you just cross the bridge.

My preference is also level three on the wing also. Most of the time it is reserved seating though. Etihad is my favorite stadium to watch footy at as you are literally on top of the action.
Agreed.

Whinging about Etihad was very popular amongst Victorian footy fans, but it is only a couple of min tram ride from Swanston up Bourke st, or about 15 min walk from Elizabeth.

IMO the walking up Little Bourke is the way to go. There are a heap of killer cafes or lunch places either closer to Elizabeth (great lunches at Naked Esspresso, best coffee in the CBD at Brother Baba Budan, or takeway sandwiches and rolls at Bon a Manger and macaroons at La Belle Miette) or closer to Spencer st (amazing but pricy $10-15 sandwhiches and rolls at Earl Canteen, something fancy at Movida, or killer coffee at Patricia).

Spencer st station is on the city loop and as mentioned there are enough cheap eateries on the city side (always best to check opening times though) or quality restaurants and little bars to prevent you having to faff around in the Docklands.

The stadium is good, love the seating layout, has a roof and gets mighty loud anywhere close to capacity. The only sucky thing is the surface.

I'm heading over that weekend. The grounds are set it's just the dates that need to be locked in. We are playing at the g. Virgin were on sale at 165 one way when I booked for early morning flights( 6 and 8 am). For the OP I've booked an apartment on stayz.com.au that will sleep 6 of us at 280 each for 5 nights in southbank. Some decent looking places on there.

Level 2 for me - we are lucky enough to get Medallion Club quite often through a mate's work so that goes well. If not we'll usually book level 2 for West Coast games. For other games we just walk up and scan in as AFL Members...

Wouldn't recommend just walking up or GA for the Essendon game though - it's ok against a team like the Dogs but against Essendon most of the decent GA-priced tickets can be pre-booked by Essendon and AFL Members.

Nothing beats Level 2 at Etihad, probably the best spot to watch footy anywhere in the country. That being said Level 3 is great for the price, you're not that far away.

If you are a member ring melb wce office. They should be able to sell you tickets. Also for rd 7 game & collingwood game @ the g there is a prematch function on. Bit pricey but

was in Melbourne last week for all the games and we stayed at Crown Metropol.

If you feel like spending a bit more money, this hotel is the go. The pool up on level 24 which gives views to the whole city is awsome.

Links to the crown and surrounding shopping outlets, eateries.

If something cheaper check out novatel and rydges on swanston.
