ACT Brumbies will beat the QLD Reds on Saturday night in the semi .

This is not stuff out of Mars it is Rugby Union.

Get into it.

Carn the Brumbies!!!
No thats wrong, I shouldnt bandwagon, but its hard not to these days!

Ummm yeah like they were a dead-cert against Cantebury last year ? - sure

I agree with WCE2000 - they are a good, if not great side, but I'll believe it when the ref blows fulltime, not before.

And I've only looked at the Golden Cats once this season - be afraid Brumbies fans, be very afraid.

cheers

A good double.

Roos in the afternoon. Brumbies at night.

What's happened to all the NZ sides this year?It seems that they've won it for about the last 5 seasons (maybe I'm wrong) but it was a surprise for me to see that none of them made the semis.

Personally I barrack for the Reds.

PS The Lions are gonna kick the Wallabies arses this summer, we're sending over an awesome team. Our pack is gonna push yours all over the pitch.

God bless ya's!

Great to see more Brumbie supporters!

We preety much smashed the Reds in QLD this year, and i think at Bruce, the mighty brumbies will cream QLD!!

LARKHAM IS GOD!

GO YA BRUMBIES, GO YOU GOOD THING!;)

DIPPER

The best NZ could do in the Super12 this year was a 5th for Otago, just behind them were Cantebury while Auckland and Wellington (my team) were well back in the pack. :(

Its gone from bad to worse for Nz since they so conspicuously bombed out of the 99 World Cup.

- They lost the Tri-Series and Bledisloe Cup last year. Its getting so bad over there at the moment that they are seriously talking about dropping out of the Super12 next year to stop player burn-out !

Frankly the Kiwis have had an almighty shock over the last few years :

- They have always thought they were the best in the world, the short history of the Rugby World Cup proves this was a total fantasy.

- The fact that the Wallabies are a demonstravbly better team than the All Blacks sticks in the craw of your average NZer.

Strangely and paradoxically enough, the reason why Australian Rugby is so much better than NZ Rugby at the moment is RUGBY LEAGUE

Let me explain - For all the codes history in Australia, League and Union lived happily together, sometimes swapping players, often swapping ideas. tactics and techniques. This has given Australian Rugby Union a crucial advantage over thier International Rivals. Rugby League in New Zealand is dismissed (rather offensively I think) as 'a Maori game', its not followed very much and Rugby Union coaches don't look to League as a source of fresh ideas (the gormless arrogance of NZ Rugby on show for all to see here), so they suffer accordingly.

The Wallabies are so much better than the others because of Rugby League.

They (the Wallabies) are fit and strong like League players.

They are professional in their approach, like League players. and above all - The Wallabies tackle like Leagfue players.

That why Australia won the 1999 World Cup - they conceded one single try in the entire tournament (and that was against the USA in a one-sided pool game) Australia and Australia alone tackle like big strong professional athletes, which they are.

Everyone else tackles like, er, Rugby Union players

So Dipper, about the Lions, - with respect mate and I realise this is probably the best Lions team you guys have had since 1974, but really they have not gotta chance agianst the Wallabies.

As good as the Lions are, they are still miles behind the Wallabies in terms of professionalism.

The Wallabies are in another dimension alltogether when it comes to fitness, tackling, ball skills, stamina and mental toughness.

The Lions still play a type of Rugby that is now mostly obselete in the fulltime professional era, and, as big and heavy as your Pack is, they are just gonna get run off their feet by the Aussies.

In any case, its jolly good to have the British Lions back in Australia after nearly 10 years - should be a great series

cheers

Hey BSA thanks for the feedback, it's a shame to see NZ rugby in the doldrums especially the All Blacks who are similar to Brazil at football in that you always expect them to be very good & they get everyone excited when they roll into town.

I believe one of the problems with the All Blacks is that they've forgotten how to do the basics well, they used to be the best scrummagers, always had a strong line out & new when to kick the ball but since the rule changes in the 90's it seems like they concentrate too much on just recycling the ball endlessly. When the Super 9(?) first started over here everyone thought it was a brand of rugby far superior to anything we play over here (which it probably was) but now our own rugby has improved massively & to be honest when we watch the Super 12 we're not that impressed we compare it to basketball it's just a lot of uncontested cycles of play with one team taking the ball up & probably scoring & then the other side doing the same.

I know the southern hemisphere countries don't rate European rugby but believe me there is now not a lot between England & Australia, those 2 are definitely the top 2 sides in the world.England are playing a style of rugby based on running it from everywhere, we have props & hookers turning up on the wings scoring tries but we still scrummage well, our line out is strong but our pack is very mobile & our defence is virtually as good as the Aussies-we have a former Rugby League coach as our defensive co-ordinator & we play a drift defence like the Wallabies. Our head coach has been over to America to watch the training of sides like the Denver Broncos to pick up tips & he constantly liases with the Rugby League coaches in England & believe me our players don't tackle like Rugby Union players anymore, we're putting in big hits where the aim is to drive the player back & hopefully knock the ball out of his grip for a turnover. We beat Australia before Christmas & we also beat South Africa & Argentina, we drew 1-1 in South Africa in the summer but we we're robbed by the video ref in the game we lost & in this year's 6 Nations tournament we scored over 200 points in only 4 games.(including over 40 points against the French)
I would give England a better chance of beating Australia than the Lions, although the Lions can call on all the England players plus scots, welsh & Irish & should in theory be stronger they haven't got a style of play worked out & will only come together for this tour whereas England have worked hard to build a stlye of rugby that wins games.

Don't get me wrong though I greatly admire the Wallabies & it constantly amazes me that they are so good when Union really plays second fiddle to League in its heartland of NSW & Queensland although I presume that it is no1 in ACT.

Mate you probably won't be convinced by what I've said but I urge you to try & watch some England games if you can maybe on cable & you might see what I'm saying is true I'm not the sort of person to get to carried away unless I mean it.Pat Howard the former Wallaby centre who's only 27 is coming back to Sydney (to try & win back a place in the NSW side & then the full Wallaby side) after 3 years playing for Leicester & he said that he now realises he knew nothing about the quality of English rugby before he came over here, he admitted that he thought it was inferior but he says that isn't the case at all.

So BSA I hope that you enjoy the Lions tour & I hope that you are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the side.

We in Canberra are lucky to have a choice of the 2 rugby codes, both of which have enjoyed considerable success.

We are also hoping the ROOs will eventually be located here.

Thanks heaps for that valuable info DIPPER

England sound like they are finally starting to get serious with their Rugby. All that news about how they are studying Rugby League is terrific news for your boys.

At least you have learnt the most important message from the 99 World Cup. - The team who tackles the hardest wins the game.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the All Blacks whose tackling is still weak and lacking in technique.

The Lions tour should be terrific, If what you say is true then the Wallabies will have their work cut for them this time, which is great for Rugby because a strong Great Britain is good for the game. - It should be a great tour.

As for NZ, well I'm afraid they are too insular, to prone to navel gazing and much too arrogant to firstly acknowledge where they are going wrong, and secondly to look at other codes to help provide some answers to what are some pretty big problems.

cheers
