Traded Adam Cerra traded to Carlton for pick #6 and F3

If he leaves (as widely reported), what will Freo get in return?

  • Two good 1st round picks

  • Top 10 pick and change

  • A 1st & a 2nd

  • Later 1st rounder

  • Two 2nd rounders

  • Early 2nd rounder

  • Other 2nd round pick

  • Less than a 2nd rounder

What a s**t show this thread is. Cerra is valuable because he hits targets by foot that other mids simply can't - he isn't and never has been an accumulator. If you don't think that is incredibly valuable in today's game then not sure what you are watching? It's why Mundy is still playing at 36yo and finishing top 11 in the Brownlow despite being ultra slow.

#6 + #25/F2 for Cerra + F3 works out to valuing Cerra at almost exactly pick #5 (given the 2 f/s prospects in the top 3).

I'd want change from pick 6, be happy if he nominates Melbourne or someone else. He doesn't address either need for our midfield.

What needs are those exactly?
You watch Dow murder the ball on a weekly basis and Cerra wouldn't fill a need?

You want change for a pick 5 who has lived up to his potential, who has barely missed a game and has four years of development in him? Cooked

There are 750 - 800 or so players in AFL.

Maybe 120 play mostly in the Midfield.

What range do you think Cerra is?

1 - 20 = Two early picks.
21 - 35 = First and Second.
36 -50 = First (5 - 12).
51 - 80 = Late First - Early Second.

4th Mid at Freo would put him at around 50 IMHO.

So you make up a random table and that is how it is?

Dow actually had pretty tidy disposal in the second half of the year.

I watched Dow murder Cerra at clearance and Cerra sit on the bench for the first eight minutes of the last quarter of a game in the balance and then come on and have no impact as his team got beaten.

You are right about why Cerra is valuable. You are wrong to state that that makes him more valuable than strike mids like Prestia and Mitchell. You could never say to Cerra, hey mate, we need you to go out there and dominate the opposition, or hey mate, can you carry our injury-hit midfield for a season. Mitchell won a Brownlow and Prestia a B&F in a premiership year because they can do those things. It's not insulting to Cerra to say he's not worth more than those two were, it's insulting them to say he is.

what did Jaidyn Stephenson go for last year in trade from Pies to North would be similar value as both around same mark

He went for severe unders because Collingwood were having a fire sale

People are aware Adam Cerra is just 21yo?!?

Mitchell was how old when he won a Brownlow? Prestia was how old when he won a B&F? How is any of that relevant to what we are talking about?

Cerra was 3rd in the Freo B&F as a 20yo. And will likely be top 5 again this year.

Weller has never won a B&F or a Brownlow and went for pick #2. So by your logic shouldn't we getting more for Cerra because he has done more than Weller?

Is the contested ball primarily handpass mid worth more or the inside-outside mid who receives it more and delivers inside 50? Both are required, both are very valuable. Confident Cerra will be rated as highly as someone like Prestia once their careers are over. Both will be thought of as A grade players without being as good as the tippy top elite.

Also confident Cerra will play 50-100 games more for his new club then Prestia plays for Richmond due to injury, the style they play and moving 2 years earlier

Mitchell was the same age Cerra is when he averaged 28 disposals, got 12 Brownlow votes and starred on grand final day. Prestia was the same age Cerra is when he showed he was one of the best clearance players in the AFL. At 20, Prestia was runner-up to Gary Ablett in GC's B&F. The next year, at Cerra's age, he was club vice-captain, finished third in the B&F, led the club for clearances and disposals with 596 at 27 per game, and got 13 Brownlow votes.

The Weller trade is an outlier that proves nothing except how desperate Gold Coast are to get players who want to be there. Using it to make your case re Cerra is laughable.

Anyway, I'm clearly not going to convince any Freo fans so I'm out. Let's see what he's traded for.
