From a neutral supporters opinion I cant believe there is even a thread on this. Cooney AT THIS STAGE, has griffen covered by an absolute mile. I thought I would use some stats to back me up and surprisingly they did.

Cooney kicked 30 goals for the season, Griffen kicked 7

Cooney obtained 20+ possessions on 12 occassions, Griffen only 10.

Griffen got 15 or less possessions on 9 occassions, Cooney had 8.

Cooneys best(33 touches, 5 goals) was better than Griffens best(30 possies, no goals)

Cooney got above 25 touches 5 times(despite spending more time up forward), compared to Griffens 2 times.

Cooney had more contested posessions.

Cooney beats him on possessions, consistency and ability to hurt on the score board.

End of thread.
Do me a favour for a second. Compare the stats between Chris Judd and Cameron Bruce in season 2006. Then tell me who the better player is.

Yeah of course Judd is better than Bruce. Im struggling to see ur point? I just statistically proved the Cooney is better than Griffen.

And I could produce stats that show Bruce is better statistically than Judd. But we all know that stats lie, and everyone knows that Judd is the better footballer and his possessions are worth twice as much as Bruce's.

You don't have to be a footy nerd to realise that Griffen craps all over Cooney in footy smarts, awareness, evasiveness and consistency. Cooney is also a year ahead of Griffen in his development.

Cooney has had one more year. That being said a lot of people seemed to jump off Cooney this year. Sure he had some consistency problems, but he was playing hurt, and im not using that as an excuse because he doesn't need one, he was still very good. He had a great season, and is one of the few genuine goalkicking midfielders in the league. He has great disposal, runs with it, can get the ball and is calm in close, and he kicks goals, he's gonna be something special

Griffen is gonna be a gun as well, so composed, classy, lovely user of the ball and he can't be tackled. Im still leaning towards Cooney, but its pretty close. The coaches of the AFL have voted them both the best young player in the league the last two years, we are very lucky to have them

Cooney is your only true shining light. Be glad you have someone to drag you through the dark ages. I know you guys think you have this amazing young list, but they are so overrated, only for the fact that the rest of Melbourne has no talent whatsoever.

You came 8th and blame the lack of wins on your ninjuries. all clubs have injkuries and youre going to get them again next year, just like the rest of us. Too many Bulldog players are always getting injured, like Darcy and Grant. Add on the upcoming reitrements in the next couple of years in West, plus the ones yove alreayd had like Roihan Jones and youe going to regret picking up Peel Thunder hacks like Farren Ray. Simply don't have the depth.

Good luck, you'll need it.

Bulldogs 12th or 13th in 2007

Cooney, runner up in Brownlow in 2007.

Farren Ray traded for 4th round pick to West Coast in 2007.

.

Different players. Chose Cooney because he is a matchwinner and has shown more ability and talent than Griffen right now, but that could change. Would rather Cooney at Richmond than Griffen, but would have both at the tigers in a heartbeat.

Both great talents though. You bulldogs fans should be happy to have such two great young players. I reckon these players will continue in their development and continue to be great players and improve.

A Griffen 15 possession game is like a 25 possession game for another player. He is that damaging and creative with his disposal. In the final against Collingwood, he 'only' had 21 possessions for the day. But he was arguably the most influential player on the park.

Cooney's best is better, but Griffen's output is more consistent. Now if only Griff can get a full pre-season in ;)

It's like having a young Akermanis and a Robert Harvey who can kick long in the same team. Gee, its a real pleasure to watch them.

Hoogs, won't don't you go the whole nine yards and tip the Bulldogs for the spoon next year?

Lol, only on Bay13. I do however think that 10th to 6th is likely, though you should allbe careful in expecting that the top 8 is a right, just because you're improving and made 8th last year.

As a Freo supporter I know, after having 11 wins 11 losses for two seasons, after a 14 win season in 2003. It took us a while longer until we made top four this year and became a premiership contender, expected to be top 8.

very envious of the bulldogs because of these guys.

Being a Blues supporter you would be envious of 15 other clubs yes?
:D

why would i be envious of 15 other teams when others are envious of our trophy cabinet? :)

poor attempt hoogs.

The soon to be three wooden spoons should look good.

We are a top 4 team in the competition for memberships and growing, which will at least ensure our survival.

With a list like ours compared to yours, I think it's fair to say that your trophy cabinet will be a little outdated when compared to the premierships we're going to win with this group in the very near future.

Enjoy another year of mediocrity, possible cheating and board room bitching.

Griffen - Has played two seasons, has fantastic foot skills, can play most positions, has body size, is untackleble, sets goals up, stops goals, is a leader, has pace, is consistant. However, he doesn't kick a heap of goals, hasn't gotten many clearences out of the centre, hasn't been that damaging forward.
Cooney - pace, gets lots of centre clearences, can absolutely tear sides apart, good foot skills, keeps feet, kicks goals. However, hasn't played defence, doesn't have Griffens consistency.

I voted for Griffen as he has the consistency and ability to almost always be in the best 5 players on the ground and i have his number on my back. Cooney however has the ability to be a champion of the game and be the first absolute superstar midfielder the bulldogs have produced (apologies to west, but he hasn't got the flashiness of superstars). Close decision and to be honest, i dont really care about who is better, I'm just ecstatic that they both play for us.
