The funny part is, by attributing everything on Adam's race, you are actually the racist here. You are the one who cannot see through Adam's skin colour for the other reasons that people dislike him. You are the one bringing race into any situation.
Yes I've watched these kinds of arguments for years. Its a similar pathology to sexism.

An American orchestra with under 15% women were asked why their percentage was so low. They were told it was an issue of talent - the men were simply better, what could they do.

They were then asked to do a blind audition, where the judges could not see the sex of the musician. Over 50% women were chosen.

Very few people can see the prejudice behind their actions.

Australia is a racist country - fact. The booing of Adam Goodes is a manifestation of the casual racism & tall-poppy syndrome (that is another matter in itself) in Australia. I have no doubt that you casual racists boo him because you think he is a tosser, what concerns me is why you think he is a tosser...

Indigenous man takes pride in his heritage and does a traditional war-cry tribute and a concerning amount of people scream "flog". People, try and dress that up any way other for me...
You are correct in everything you say.
Except in Adam's case. I think his way of pushing his love of his ancestry borders on obnoxious, and does not help his people. It is as someone else said here, its more about Adam than anything else , and that is not a good thing.
But I'm leaving this now. Its done!

Precisely.

Power structures are not overt, and they're not necessarily conscious. Yet they exist. The results demonstrate it.

Hi Kingy, I'm a bit swamped dealing with the right to opinion wagon right now. I'll come back to you.

My argument is this: if you suggest that oppression is a thing of the past, and shouldn't be discussed now because things are less overt, you're suggesting that we shouldn't look at the underlying power structures. They still exist.
I didn't suggest that; there are obviously degrees, and they're a lot less severe now, than they were then; I specifically stated that they haven't been eradicated (and I doubt they ever will be), but to use the actions and behaviour of people generations ago, hundreds of years ago, to try and compare them to behaviour today, I don't believe is relevant.

It's not enough to say whether they're as severe or not. What happened then, impacts upon what happens now. We don't start on an equal footing.

Yes but thousands have come out and called Adam a sook and countless other things.

Not sure how well these people would deal with constant racism - day after day.
Crickey, calling someone a sook is now considered racism?

Racism is still a problem in Australia, I've witnessed it first hand. But let's not fall into this trap.

If he came up to me doing that war dance he'd end up in hospital. I don't give a **** what race you are, you act in an agressive, obnoxious manner like that and you deserve anything that comes your way.
Dances like that have been performed in front of the likes of Obama and the Queen you clown.

footy used to be an escape from the bullshit of working ice. Go along barrack for your team give some shit to the opposition and have fun.

Now the politically correct crap that we are subject to at work has taken over footy. Some rejoice at this, I do not, I miss the escapism of footy now it's a ****ung chore hence why I can't be bothered going anymore.

But the fact some people don't like him, or agree with how he expresses themselves, doesn't mean that they're condoning the behaviour of people who do that kind of thing on wiki.

People claiming that Goodes is inciting some fans by a show of indigenous pride.

Same people claiming that crowd isn't racist.

Weird how someone who isn't racist would get incited or offended by a show of indigenous pride
Its Adam mate nothing on earth to do with his race. Nothing. Now I am gone.

True - but 100 years ago, you could gather 50 white people, and they'd probably all be racist and homophobic.

Do the same today, and I'd like to think that the vast majority of them wouldn't be.

Painting people with the brush of previous generations, from a completely different time, I don't think is fair.

How do you know my domestic, financial or employment situation?
Surely you're not making a broad assumption on your belief of my skin color and background?
Imagine you were wrong....
Actually, you framed the comment re: your skin:

Are you saying I can't have an opinion on something that happens in a public domain because of the color of my skin?
Wow!
Race bestows privilege. It's not the only privilege, others such as gender/economic status exist. Considering those as well doesn't mean you can ignore the privilege that does exist.

There's no strawman argument. It's your actual argument.
My argument? In your haste to finger point, I think you have confused me for someone else.

But it certainly wasn't the argument of David King. You just made that up. You exaggerated him expressing an opinion into him being empowered to control the right to cultural celebration of another person. Complete strawman argument in which you find yourself arguing with yourself.

King has a right to hold an opinion on whether Goodes' celebration was appropriate in the circumstances. Being members of an AFL community and financial supporters of the league, we all do in fact, for it was in this forum Goodes chose to express himself. For whatever reason though, you seem to want to deny this right to opinion. Precedents have been set regarding players' interaction with the crowd and given this is what occurred, it is little wonder his actions are open for debate.

This was back in 2002

He used to rub heaps of people up the wrong way

yup pretty loud boos from the Collingwood supporters for Akermanis and Lynch during the medal presentation. The lion fans however applauded Nathan Buckley's Norm Smith. We did though reserve a few boos for Eddie whenever his face came up on the replay screen :D

Add to that i was pointed the wrong direction to the Sky Bus by a Pie fan :) ah well its life :)

Not being allowed to be offensive is a chore?

Some people go to the footy to enjoy the game, not watch a bunch of boorish idiots yell rubbish from behind a fence.

I was responding to what was purported to be the comment of King. If the reporting of the comments were not accurate I apologise to him.

The question I pose is this, in what way is he an authority to be quoted to add weight to a comment regarding the appropriateness of a celebration of indigenous culture?
