Awesome news. Means he is guaranteed to be around for the development of the young guys coming through this year - Rioli, Ryan, Waterman, Allen, Ainsworth, Brander etc.

Made finals every year but one under him, made a GF and a great shot to make another one this year. Some coaches have been backed for a lot less.

ISWT.

Such as a round 1 win over a mentally ****ed Adelaide.

Listening to ABC sportstalk last weekend they were discussing the values that Simmo has brought into the club in comparison to Lyon- he really values skills. It shows in how much that has developed. I didn’t know this, but we used to mark circles as to where the kick needed to reach the player in- it may not have been marked, but it set a real emphasis as to how much we value footskills. As a result, when a kick needs to be hit, we hit it more often than not. We are so much more skilful now than we ever were under Worsfold.

They compared that to Freo training, where established players were regularly missing targets by foot in the short kick warmups. Ross Lyon wasn’t there; he was working somewhere else, and players weren’t being held accountable for basic skill mistakes. I just don’t think he values footskills the same way & it really shows.

This team is his now- it’s been 5 years- I think we have some challenges ahead as we transition Post JK & NN in a couple of years, but I have no doubt we are headed in the right direction, regardless of what happens in the next 4 weeks.

This blokes coaching win/loss record is incredible.
2014: 9th : 11W 11L
2015: 2nd : 16W 5L 1D
2016: 6th : 16W 6L
2017: 8th : 12W 10L
2018: 2nd : 16W 6L
Average finishing position: 5th
Coaching W/L Record: 71 W 38L 1D : 65%

He has had an influence on Ryan, Venables, Rioli, Cole and Duggan (drafted from 2014-2018) making our current best 22.

He has assisted the club in making trades for Redden, Jetta and Vardy.

He is responsible for telling gov he is too fat.

What can this guy do?

Really happy to hear this, he’s a gem and we go into the next few seasons with some fantastic rookies and stabilty and confidence in the club and coach.
Go Eagles!

He also had a part in making JK a dual Coleman medallist, 3x AA and our all time leading goal kicker.

I don't think it's a coincidence JK became elite once Simmo started coaching.

tbh anyone could've noticed that gov's skinfolds were too high

I know you probably say this in jest but the ability to point that out and get a positive response is the good part of this.
Some people require a stick some people a carrot others just need the truth told and I think Simmo’s Biggest skill is navigating this player by player to get results. Still has the group but has made difficult decisions with this list since he got here.
