Think there is a good chance we we will be trading out a few players this year.
Your team's back 6 is solid. Forward 6 is very exciting with Tilthorpe, Fogarty, McAdam and Rankine.

I'm not sold on your team's inside mids.

Sloane is 32. Rory Laird and Broadie Smith are solid.

Matt couch is depth a B minus to C plus graded inside mid.

I am Holding out hope for Hately, the central's district mid you got from GWS pulls up to be good.

Very odd analysis from my perspective.

Agree on forward line.

Defence more shaky than your assessment.
Doedee, Worrell, Smith and Butts is a good starting point. But it's not proven. We would be hoping Jones, Milera and Hinge improve a fair bit to stabilise that area.

Midfield..
Smith doesn't play mids. Crouch and Hately aren't best 22. Sloane didn't play at all last year, and in all likelihood will have very little influence on us going forward.
It will be up to the likes of Sam Berry, Rory Laird, Jake Soligo, Harry Schoenberg and potentially Rachele + Rankine moving in there on a more permanent basis over the next few years.
That's not considering draft targets this year, free agency and trade etc which I'm sure Adelaide will be seeing this area of the ground as the next step to address.

Billy Dowling one to watch too.

All up it's not proven, requires the talent we have to develop, and probably more importantly for the coaches to develop a recognisable brand that isn't just scrapping to an honourable loss.

I personally think the Crows midfield (esp the kids) have a lot more talent and upside than most observers think (including AFC fans)

Obviously it's not all there yet (a young bull type like Cripps or Serong will help) but I can say the foundation there being constructed for their next flag tilt (whenever that is)

Nicks definitely on the hot seat in 2023, aside from a massive and unforeseen run of injuries, anything less than 10 wins for Adelaide and he is out

i still think Hately could have role as a second tier mid

not a good look for our rebuild if that's the case

Only if he's a midfielder getting the lion share of CBAs and really, it's likely we're already at the end of that road seeing Keays was one (alongside Hately) to lose out to Berry/Soligo cementing themselves in the latter part of 2022.

Keays still has a lot to offer as a best 22 player elsewhere in our lineup as a role player, providing we're paying him appropriately.

Wrong!!

Keays was moved out because he was carrying a shoulder injury in the back half of the year...no other reason. Both he and the club have stated he was carrying it and he was straight in for surgery at season's end....it's only this week he's started back in full combative training.

Still finished 3rd in the B & F voting after finishing runner up the year prior.

CBA minutes going down was largely due to playing through injury, though

Gut feel is that Keays spends two more seasons in the middle (albeit with less overall CBA time). Then by halfway through the decade he’ll have transitioned into a role similar to what SPP player for Port last year

A convenient excuse, but we've both seen with our selections over the last decade our selectors do not care about minor injuries when it comes to our week by week selections and how we use them during games.

If Keays was fit enough to play, he was fit enough to midfield and he still did, clocking ~40% CBA's in the last 4 rounds. If Soligo doesn't break out as one of our most promising kids in the back end of last year, that number would have been near 80% as it was earlier.

You can persist with this line as long as you like but both he and the club have said he was carrying the injury yet >>>>>

Keays himself mentioned that he was looking to play a mix of midfield/forward going forward.

Whilst his move forward may have been in part due to carrying an injury, think you will find he won't revert to a pure midfielder.

Yeah reckon a lot of it hinges on Nicks being open to playing more than four mids at the centre bounce over the course of a match

Can see him spending 50-60% time at CBAs the next two seasons, rather than the 70-90% we saw for the large part of last year

Crows have invested heavily in small forwards so should be strong there.
The midfield is the worry.
Along with hawthorn, they are likely to be exposed here throughout a long hard season …
We have invested 2x 1st rounders the past 2 seasons trading in 2 players who can play through the midfield.

We haven't brought in Rankine to play as a pure small forward.

Rankine went into the midfield on occasion at the suns - usually just for a few stoppages, was never a regular fixture.

Can do tricky things around stoppage which lead to a few clearances thanks to good tap work from Witts.

Sometimes couldn’t get near it and influence - ie. end of the Collingwood game.

Never really got near it in general play from the midfield. Think he probably just went back forward after the few stoppages.

Obviously a complete defensive liability at stoppages.

Insane vision and touch on his disposals so you would want the ball in his hands up field.

How are the Adelaide rucks with their tap work?

Rankine has been superb in pre-season... until this week's hamstring awareness.

Fitness guru Burgess has got Rankine fitter than ever.

Expect Rankine this year will still play more forward, but with significant stints on ball.

ROB is around mid pack with regard to tap work.
