That's just a guess, this far out. Logic says it should probably only be one of Talia or McAsey we allow to leave.

With our existing picks and the compo and trade currency from McAsey, I'd like to see us with maybe four picks in the first 25, plus a couple of trades for more mature bodies (Lipinski, Patrovski-Seton, Rhylee West, CCJ, etc). I'm assuming we grab two 19 year olds in the midseason draft, and we move those to our rookie list in the off-season?

Bit ambitious with the Dogs F/S Rhylee West and certainly wouldn't be on my shopping list.

My early thoughts

Talia - one year deal
Walker - one year deal or retire on a high
Crouch - 2 or 3 year deal maximum
Fogarty - 2 year deal
Doedee - long contract
McAsey - 2 year deal if he is willing
Gollant - 1 year deal
Murray - 1 year deal
Borlase - 1 year deal
Newchurch - 1 year deal

Lynch - delist or retire, absolutely crucial he goes
Seedsman - delist or trade
Kelly - trade, if not 1 year deal
Murphy - trade or delist
O'Connor - delist
Davis - delist
Strachan - delist
Mackay - delist

If we need more list spots I'd pay out Frampton's contract and look to trade Luke Brown

Oh geez I've been getting a bit of positive feedback around the joint about my gameday tactical nouse and list management potential so I guess I better have a go.

So here's a list of campaigners who need the sack at end of year (if not sooner):

Lynch (slow, ranga)
Seeds (saves us the headache of having to weigh up a long kick in an open game vs having to see one of the most punchable faces in the league)
McAsey (sadsack from day one)
O'Connor (name one good player that ever had a surname starting with o')
Gollant (WHERE do you even play?)
Davis (m8 it's time)
Mackay (this forum will see a dive in post count and rise in morale. Frightening stuff)
Strachan (surely we can find some other third rate ruck)

Well there's 3 O's for you just off the top of my head.

Mick O'Loughlin
Ryan O'Keefe
Gary O'Donnell

Reilly O'Brien and Jaeger O'Meara go quite well currently.

RE-SIGN
Taylor Walker - would be waiting till late in the season, see how his body handles a bit more of the season.
Darcy Fogarty - will leave I reckon, would be mad to stay, especially if Tex is re-signed
Paul Seedsman - 1 year deals, keep him hungry, if he goes, no biggie
Tom Doedee - as long as he wants
Jake Kelly - see Seedsman
Lachlan Gollant

Nick Murray (R)
James Borlase (Cat B)
Tariek Newchurch (Cat B)

TRADE, LET GO or DELIST
Daniel Talia (compensation - tier 5) - 1 year deal, McCasey probably goes, so he stays
Matthew Crouch (compensation - tier 2) - yep, don't think there's a lot of value in the slow stoppage accumulator role
Tom Lynch (SANFL captain?) - I expect he'll get another year
Lachlan Murphy - will get 2 years
Fischer McAsey (trade) - goneski
Ronin O'Connor - NFI

Ben Davis (R) - shame this kid, 2 single games across 2 years, who does that?
Kieran Strachan (R) - will get a year I reckon unless we acquire another ruckman
David Mackay (R) - should have been gone 5 years ago

Considering that we're unlikely to want to take more than 4-5 picks in the draft and with Stengle's spot already freed up:

Re-Sign:
Daniel Talia - 1
Taylor Walker - 1
Matthew Crouch - 2
Darcy Fogarty - 2
Tom Doedee - 4
Jake Kelly - 2
Lachlan Murphy - 2
Fischer McAsey - 2
Lachlan Gollant - 1
Nick Murray (R) - 1
James Borlase (Cat B) - 2
Tariek Newchurch (Cat B) - 2

Move to Rookie List: (If the option is available)
Tom Lynch
Paul Seedsman

Delist:
Ronin O'Connor
Ben Davis (R)
Kieran Strachan (R)
David Mackay (R)

Leaves us with 4 free main list spots, 5 if McAsey leaves and 1 rookie spot.

My early list

Resign:

Tex - 1 year if his form holds up. Though I'd hold off until the last month of 2021.
Fogarty - 2 years. Struggled, but there is a very good footballer in him.
Doedee - 3 years. I'm not big on a massively long deal for Doedee. 3 would be my max if he doesn't move away from loose/mid defence.
Murphy - 2 years. Good, honest trier. Whilst I'm hoping Newchurch overtakes him, I'd be happy to have Lachie in and around the mix
McAsey - 4 years if we can get him to resign. I'd be trying my darndest to get him to commit long term. Whilst a top 10 pick for a key defender is always a mistake, we've may as well try to salvage as much as we can from it. Plus I do like him as a footballer.
O'Connor and Gollant - 2 years. Pretty simple at this point. Give them a chance to prove their AFL footballers.
Murray, Newchurch, Borlase - 2 years and keep them on the rookie list.

Trade:
Crouch - FA. Not anything on Crouch per se. Just need more fuel for the rebuild machine.
Whilst not listed as out of contract, I'd try to find Jones a new home as an altruistic move. It looks like whatever the issues he has are, it won't be solved here.

Unknown:
Talia - A good servant for the club. I will gladly support him if he wants to go to a top 4 team to hunt a premiership (even Port) seeing he's done all that he can here. I'd give him 2 years if he wanted to end his career here.
Kelly - I have no opinions here. I'd trade/delist the 2018-2020 Kelly, but if Kelly can back up his 2021 form throughout, I'd give him 2 years.

Retire:
Lynch
Mackay - Both are pretty simple. It's time to move on.

Delist:
Seedsman
Davis
Strachan

Gives 3 list spots/3 rookie spots to play with if Talia, Kelly, and Jones (though, as said, that's more to salvage a career then anything of value to us).

6/3 as the other extreme.

I’m impressed that the usual campaigners who have never seen a live game of our Twos all agree we should delist O’Connor after ONE GAME in Crows colours.

Of course these are great judges of footy talents.

e.g. their preseason gems of wisdon;
- Walker was cooked three years ago, he nust play SANFL or just piss off
- Sloane should toss the coin and then sit in the forward pocket, never to be seen at a centre clearance ever again.

Reilly O'Brien and Jaeger O'Meara go quite well currently.
Now you are just making up names to prove a futile point.

If the useless campaigners ever becomes a club I self-nom for el presidente. Besides, I just copy whatever Scorpus says and re-arrange the words forever disproving the rule that you never use anything you learn in uni in the real world.

Lots of people happy to let Talia go.

I would be holding on to him for another year to teach our young defenders.

Would only let him go if injuries get the better of him.

We need to keep a spread of experience in our side.
Talia won't be going anywhere unless he decides to retire. I suspect there's a good chance of this happening, given how battered his body is.

Lynch won't be going anywhere, no matter how much the BF un-intelligentsia fantasise about it happening. Nor will Kelly - no chance of him exiting this year.

Looking at the list, and Stengle is the only senior listed player I can see as an obvious out. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Mrouch following his brother back to Melbourne, but it's by no means a sure thing.

Gibbs, Strachan, Mackay & Davis are no-brainers, but they're all on the rookie list - and we need to create at least 3 vacancies on the senior list.

Will they have the balls to pull the trigger on Fogarty, if he still can't get out of the SANFL team this year? Seed was on the outer last year, but seems to have worked his way back into Nicks' good graces in 2021, otherwise I would have had him as one of the favourites for the exit queue.

There's usually at least one youngster who they cut, because they decide that they simply won't make it. Could be Gollant or O'Connor, probably not McAsey, though I'm certainly not writing off any of these players.

It will absolutely not be Gollant, did you not listen to Hamish's draft review....there was always a long term development plan in place even before we drafted him let alone after we had drafted him. List management would have signed off on that prior to his drafting. The little I've seen of him he looks an exceptional prospect with his aerial ability along with the already well honed defensive side to his game.

I'm not saying that it will be either of them. I'm saying that historically, it's not uncommon for us to cut at least 1 youngster at the end of their first contract. These 3 just happen to be out of contract. I am most certainly not writing any of our youngsters off.

Yeah, just an idea. They'll surely have midfielders looking for opportunity.
Lipinski's the one if he can be shaken loose and it's well known we had big interest in him in his draft year....goal kicking mid/forward and some size.

I've never said any of those things, and I can't see them giving O'Connor another contract.

Nothing against the lad and he may turn it on through the rest of the season - but he was a bit of a longshot selection, who hasn't burst through.

I can't see how he gets a game. How does he get past Crouch, Milera, Hately, Pedlar and Jones who all aren't in the side as it stands? He was also worse than Jones on the weekend and Jones isn't exactly tearing it up right now.

That's without considering any future picks we take at this year's draft

There's no point retaining players with no obvious path into the team

You would have to agree he's had little opportunity to "burst through" as you put it and you're judging it off 1 SANFL game?....settle down, at least give him a fair go before consigning him to Kristof's delist list.

I'm not part of the crew suggesting Lynch will be dropped - but I wouldn't be surprised to see him become SANFL captain and a development coach. That's his career path, and it's either the next year or the following one.

He's loved at the club and they won't want to get rid of him, but equally we will need the room for three picks and perhaps a traded-in player or two, plus the possibility of rookie list upgrades.

They're going to need to make some difficult choices, and I don't see them getting rid of Fogarty so they can get one more year out of Lynch.

Agreed. Plus add Fogarty the Inside Midfielder to that list.
