posters aren't neccessarily keen, it's simply that whilst we might want 2 genuine ruckman, the second rarely hangs around awaiting injury for games if there's clubs offering up a first ruck spot.
How seriously might the club be looking at trading ROB and retaining Strachan? Notwithstanding their respective current contract positions.

No chance whatsoever.

... and you can't exclude their contract positions from any such consideration, particularly given that Strachan is out of contract this year (and ROB is not).

If a team came with a good offer for ROB, I imagine we would consider it.

Could we do a huge deal with Richmond?

OUT:
Pick 4, 37, ROB

IN:
Pick 7, 16, 26, CCJ, Neil Balme

With the plan to trade picks 23&26 for a pick in the teens, maybe Bulldogs for pick 14? Then trade 16 for Dawson?

Would give us 7, 14, Dawson + CCJ. Could become Arlo, Campbell Chesser, Dawson and CCJ.

Rookie Draft a developing tall.

Love the effort and passion of the response.
Sounds a bit hopeful but if you can pull it off, you're hired as our new list manager!😁

I have a feeling rankine could request a trade home to us this year, but we would have to give up too much for him, I hope we just wait until end of next year and don’t make the same mistake as we did with gibbs.

It really depends what they want for him.

A late first? Maybe. An early first? Absolutely not.

I'd package a couple of seconds or a pick downgrade for him, potentially. We need to acknowledge they probably done want a discontented $700k player on their list.

Unsure why some are keen to trade Strachan. Need 2 genuine ruckman on the list, particularly if one gets hurt.

You need one genuine ruckman plus one solid backup and one emerging junior.

If Strachan is better than a solid backup, you need to either make him your first ruck or trade him, otherwise you've overcapitalised in the backup position.

You think the club is trading the 2019 Best and Fairest player that we've recently re-signed?

Hopeful is an understatement - especially given Richmond already have two rucks (Nankervis - 27 yo and Soldo - 25 yo)...I can dream though.

Would Brisbane do it for one of their late firsts?

I mean we probably still wouldn't, but ...

A lot of discussion around here has been the lack of opportunities and lack of rotations through the Centre Bounce Attendance numbers. Most clubs rotate at least 6 or 7 players through there, Crows tend to stick to 4 or 5 guys, with Shoenberg really the only younger guy to get a go. Because Laird, Sloane and Keays are almost always in there (and potentially Crouch if he stays) potential injuries to the older brigade would actually give the younger guys a much needed opportunity for development in that role, to see if they have what it takes. Season 2022 is not necessarily about winning enough games to get into finals, it is about developing and building the squad to the point where we can be a real finals contender around 2024 where the guys drafted since 2018 start to reach a peak together.

We currently still have Hately who is big bodied 191cm, 91kgs, if he has recovered from his groin and hip soreness next season.
Luke Pedlar also likes going in hard and at this stage we currently still have RoC who is also a larger frame at 191cm, 85kgs.
Also don't forget about Mitch Hinge, who came over from Brisbane and dislocated his shoulder in the first game. 190cm, 91kgs.

Also need to see how Wayne Milera comes back from his patella and where he fits in at the club.

Rookie list needs to be used to develop some X-factor Charlie Cameron or potential ruckman types, high risk, high reward. The team doesn't need another known quantity break glass emergency type.

We have seen that injuries to our permanent senior C.B.A. crew does NOT result in more opportunity for our youngsters to attend centre bounces. This season we should have seen more options given a go in the midfield, why wait till next season?

It was ludicrous to see Sloane (& to a lesser extent Keays) continually play midfield whilst hampered by injury.

Nicks would need to see Sloane (or Keays) rock up to training with their foot in plaster to not start them at the centre bounce.

Edit: In the above scenario Nicks would probably just make them the injury sub.

Would also have to put Keegan Brooksby on the Rookie List as an absolute last chance Break the Glass ruck insurance measure.

Otherwise it’s sounds great, but highly improbable.

I'd want more.

I guess we need to look at which teams need a ruck.

Gold Coast obviously (even with Witts returning)
Bulldogs - would let them keep old 'Stretch neck' English forward
North - Goldstein is nearly finished. Below is average or forward preferred
Geelong - have some young rucks, but they are in last chance saloon before they hit a world of pain.
St. Kilda - Ryder is done. Marshall is better as a forward/ruck. The others are speculative at best.
Hawks - ROB would be an upgrade on all their players, although they have Reeves coming through at some stage

That's probably it. Not a lot of options really.

FTR I think there is ZERO chance we trade ROB. Even if we should (and I'm not saying we should), we wouldn't. We are too conservative with that stuff.

Also we've burned down our list to the point we can't afford to trade anyone with experience after this trade period.

As we (supporters) collectively think, write and pass judgement about our list in general and our midfield in particular one thing that I think gets lost somewhat is that we focus too much on individual players and not enough on the right combination(s) that we need.

For instance in the midfield I think the criticism of us is that we're too 'same, same' and lack the right blend of players. I think the optimal combination for the centre square midfield (aside from the ruck) is:
  • The Bull
    • Damaging, breakaway speed mid who is unstoppable 1-on-1 and who can go forward with great effect and ideally is strong in the air.
    • Not always getting 30+ but has high impact for touches.
    • Prototypes from the last decade are Dangerfield, Dusty, Petracca and Fyfe
  • The All-Rounder
    • The highly reliable guy who can play inside and out, runs hard both ways (and ideally big-bodied strong tacklers to boot) and then in the best of this genre are damaging with their possessions.
    • I think this is guys in the mould of Oliver, Jack Steele, Cripps, and so on.
  • The Accumulator
    • The guy who knows exactly where to run and gets his hands on the ball at the source and all over the ground to set up scoring chains. Strong over the ball and hard to tag and makes those around him a better player.
    • This is guys like Lochie Neale, Boak, Tom Mitchell, Merrett, et al.
The very best midfields not only have a frontline that cover each of these types but they've got depth across the board as well.

For us we've clearly got Laird and Crouch (for now) who can fill that Accumulator role but we've never covered the loss of Danger as the midfield Bull. Our other current mids in Sloane, Keays and Schoenberg for me are all of that All-Rounder type but Schoenberg is the only one who can damage the opposition and Sloane sadly just doesn't contribute enough across all areas to warrant his level of midfield time (or salary).

That's why I think our drafting and trading needs to focus on this glaring gap (unless I'm selling Pedlar short and he is potentially this player) and why Horne-Francis was so appealing as he seems tailor-made to fill this hole. It even makes the short-lived experiment with Fog to see if he could turn into a Stringer-type bull slightly more understandable but it seems that he doesn't have that capacity in him. Going back further it also perhaps justifies the decision to let Lyons go as we already had (in Matt Crouch) our preferred Accumulator and maybe that's why the Lions midfield mix (2x Accumulators - Neale & Lyons) doesn't seem to stand up in big games.

Are we the new Kangaroos?

Court a player all season, he remains unsigned for ages, we're willing to pay much higher dollars than his existing club, supporters get excited... stays.
I must have missed something. Has the club announced that they've been chasing a player, or offered them big money - the way that North Melbourne have done in the past?

BF speculation & wishful thinking doesn't count.

Bull = Pedlar
All-rounder = Schoenberg
Accumulator = Berry/draftee

Pedlar hit some centre bounces with real aggression in the Sanfl and although not lightning quick, he's got a quick burst on him.
Schoenberg ticks all the boxes you'd want in a modern midfielder.
Berry's production has been low so far but I feel he'll develop into the Crouch/Thommo type.

If we haven't that would be much worse

If we haven't that would be much worse
If we haven't announced it?

Because I'm sure EVERY club sounds out players that they don't get.

You've posted some weird trolly shit over the last few years, but c'mon ...
