He will be taking phone calls from teams that are currently playing a ruck less entrenched than ROB. Strachan is the best ruckman in the lower leagues and has shown he could have it to be an AFL first ruck.

He's not worth much, but sides will be looking.
Which Club ? ......GEEL, WB, SYD ?

Honestly, can't see any clubs chasing him .....maybe at the end of 2022 it'll be a different story

Strachan's Manager is not taking calls from Clubs looking for a #1 Ruckman ......he's probably fielding calls for a 2nd ruck role similar to his role at the Crows

His improvement this year is remarkable ....his core is much stronger and hasn't been getting pushed off the ball in ruck contests .....he's also HTFU

With the success of his last 2 games .....his motivation for next year will be high & I expect just as big an improvement in 2022 ......ROB now has genuine competition & that's also good for ROB

How would you know that? Strachan did better in his 2 games than ROB in his first 2 after Sauce missed. ROB grew another leg when it became known that Sauce was out for longer. I can think of 2-3 clubs off the top of my head that Strachan would be first ruck at in 2022. I guess you're suggesting that he's behind other 2nd rucks that would be taking those phone calls ahead of him. Maybe he is, I don't watch enough state league to know. But to think that he's only a second string ruckman is like saying Lyons was onky ever a fringe mid when we forced him out.

I'm saying, based on 2 games this year only .....he's behind Clubs current #1 Rucks

Being good in 2 games is too small a sample to say he could be a #1 Ruck for an entire season ......Strachan needs another year to be in a position to push that case

The Bulldogs don’t have a no 1 ruck, their ruck is Martin who is done. They desperately need a ruck and without a stand out experienced available ruckman they should be interested.

Is it too small a sample size though? Another preseason and improvement again is certain. All aren't as conservative as in having to earn your stripes before getting a stripe. Anyway, we'll find out soon, trade fortnight not too far away. He'll either re-sign before then or we find out during trade period. One factor in our favour is that we can offer him more $ than ordinarily paid for a developing ruckman. The question will be whether he wants a genuine crack at first ruck. Any offer that includes that possibility will be hard to knock back. And he'll be getting the right advice that second choice players don't push past established players at our club until the end of that players career.

Didn’t we target Sam Jacobs after 1 or 2 great AFL performances? I don’t see why a club wouldn’t take a similar punt on Strachany and bring him in with a view to him playing 10+ games

Agree ....after 2022 I suspect Strachan's demand from other clubs will increase

But I would say, he's a genuine chance now to be #1 Ruck at the Crows .....I was far from impressed by ROB this year ....his ruck work was average, and his kicking was terrible, just throwing the ball on boot without any thought to where he was kicking it
ROB's marking is his #1 Wood .....and when he wasn't taking marks, his value was zero

Strachan is more mobile, better disposal, better kick .....just not a great field mark, or should I say, ot as good as ROB

Eh. Ruck is the least important position on the ground. Geelong and Richmond are the two best teams of the last decade and there isn't a premium ruck amongst them.
Ottens was important to the Cats & Nankervis handy for Richmond.

Nicks has constantly talked speed, speed, speed ....and other Clubs are the same ....this is why Roberts will definitely slide a long way in the Draft
Obviously in terms of his pace but isn’t also about speed of decision making. Seen plenty of players with pace and crap or slow decision making skills

Interesting that Nicks said yesterday that midfield and forward were the two areas they want to add to through the trade and draft period

He also specifically referred to adding power and speed to the team

Sounds like he hasn't seen Hamish's Tasmanian Defender draft board

We've been talking about adding speed since 2015. That's where Gallucci being a bust and Milera turning into Hentschel have hurt us.

Would like to see Hamill on a wing - think he would really add something there.

We have 2 mid range plodders in ROB and Strachan, both are OK but an upgrade would be highly desirable as our team becomes a contender. Rehn and Pittman they are not. There not even Clarke and Biglands. I accept they’re better than Herbert and Golding.
Ruckman don't win you flags

ROB's a better ruck than Clarke was, maybe Clarke has him with HO to advantage, but everything else ROB is much much better than Clarke.

No ....understand where you're coming from, and in principle agree

But you can't have a team full of slow / quick thinking players ......legspeed will break you open, and we've seen that with other clubs streaming thru our midfield on transition, making our players look like witch's hats

Ok offensively ....a liability trying to defend ....this is the archilles heel of GEEL in Finals
