So, looking at our team list going forward...

Our top-7 players (Sloane, Walker, Brown, Smith, Laird, Crouch & Seedsman) have played 1270 games.
The remaining 34 players (including senior, rookie & Cat B rookie lists) have played 713 games between them.

That's an average of just 49.6 games per player, across the 40 players currently remaining on our lists (32x senior, 6x Cat A rookie, 2x Cat B rookie).

And 21.6 games across the other 33 players when removing the top 7. Wow that is an inexperienced squad

We still need to trade or delist Davis. He's been on our list long enough. Showed a bit but unless he's a guaranteed starter in our lineup, which he isn't , he has to go.
Yes... but removing him increases the average number of games played per player!

It's like that famous quote from the NZ Prime Minister:
Kiwis moving to Australia raise the average IQs of both countries.

This is more-so hypothetical, but if we don't trade in anyone like Dawson or Stephens, and considering the amount of experience we've lost (even more-so if Walker doesn't go around again)... is it possible we might go after Hurn on a Hodge/Birchall-like deal?

West Coast seem more and more like they'll be going into rebuild mode soon, with their midfield aging and JJK on his last legs. Hurn would absolutely have a spot in our 22 IMO

I don't think it will be Hurn but I'd be shocked if we don't bring in some experience. I think the decision has been made that as good as the Senior players who are leaving have been we need some fresh experienced faces.

I was just thinking the same thing. While he might still improve, be able to play a role and maybe even get to 30-40 games, we’d now be better off rolling the dice on a speculative lower draft or rookie pick instead.

If we don’t believe that someone is likely to improve enough to become a best 18 player then we’d be better off giving someone else a chance. The selected player may be no better than Davis, but there is a chance he could be the next Laird, Johncock, Sloane, Butts, Rutten etc.

From memory the only unproven players that we’ve dumped who then went on to success at other clubs were C Curnow and D Wakelin.

We had Ed not Charlie, decent player but hardly a big missed opportunity.

With Kelly's departure we now only how 1 of our draft picks left from 2013 (Matt), making it:
2007 - 1
2008 - 1
2009 - 0
2010 - 1
2011 - 1
2012 - 0
2013 - 1
2014 - 1

As an aside - Laird, Hartigan, CC, Kelly and R'OB, Greenwood and Keath, is a hell of an amazing strike rate in 5 consecutive years of rookie picks. Feel like the Crows really do not get enough credit for our rookie picks

There's always been playing spots available for our rookie listers because our early picks leave/bomb

Dawson is another case of our recruiting not identifying local players. He was pick 56 in 2015. Same year we gave up 2nd round picks to get Hampton and Menzel and lost Dangerfield.
Hampton was traded for a 2016 second rounder.

It was also the year we traded pick 32 for Seedsman, which worked out rather better.

Laird, CC, Kelly, R'OB (and tbh Hartigan) are not in that category at all. Our "early picks" such as they were did not bomb - Brad, Matt, Lever, Milera., and they did not get games because anyone left. Maybe just admit our drafting of rookies is actually good.

I’ve never made this sort of statement before regarding SA talent returning back to SA, but if Port manage to secure Dawson over us, considering our superior draft and superior salary cap positions, we may as well board the place up.

Get it ******* done AFC.
Its all about our list management and recruiting team. We knock PA but year after year they seem to do it much better.

I think we've got better since they pulled our pants down a bit in 2018.

It's just a massive hole we have to dig out of.

Yeah and Port preferred both Aidyn Johnson and Riley Bonner in the 2015 draft, how did that work out?

We only took 2 selections in the 2015 draft SA boy Wayne Milera and Vic Country boy Tom Doedee how did that work out?
