That was a serious overating of our midfield at the time.
It was a draft we could have traded down and got 2 1st rounder as a minimum and became obvious before hand Roberston was going to be a serious slider along with Kemp.

We already did trade down. I think you really run the risk of being too smart for yourself at that point. That said, I don't think it's overrating how poor our midfield is, more misreading how valuable KPDs are. It's a position you can fill cheaply, and Butts is currently making mockery of that selection.

Probably the only good thing is it hasn't been a really good draft class at this point, and we've ended up with the 2nd or 3rd best midfielder after our pick in Schoenberg.

Bit of a slow burner that draft, its going to be a fascinating one to dissect in 5 years time. Lots of players in the top 30 still fighting their way into their teams best 22's.

I agree in that we overate KPD vs premium mids.
Hamish said at the beginning and during the draft you can never have enough midfielders and we took 2 defenders in the top 30.
So he takes Schoenberg and OConnor and thinks we got plenty in the midfield was a major error in list management.
We took Jones and McHenry the year before and with Milera we thought we were way more advanced than we are.

If we weren't after Serong then we got it horribly wrong.
This draft had covid to deal with in 1st year. I think there's genuine stars emerging and a few of them are SA lads.

So I have read that Seedsman has triggered another year which is a good thing as one year is better than 3 right now, but then read that crows are negotiating to offer Kelly a deal???

Jeez, who are we going to delist if Kelly is not one of them? Can we offer a 'Jarryd Lyons offer'?

What on earth made you think that Kelly was ever going to be delisted?

Seedsman
In-form Adelaide wingman Paul Seedsman has triggered a new one-year contract and now hopes to remain a Crow for the rest of his career.
Seedsman had been without a deal for 2022 before reaching a clause earlier this season to ensure an extension.
On track for a career-best campaign, the 29-year-old plans to talk with the club about staying even longer.
“The security to have another year is good to know but I’d like to extend past that,” Seedsman said.
“We’ll sit down with the club in the coming months and work through a possible extension and see what their thoughts are.
“I’ve been here six years and would love to finish my career here.”

Kelly :thumbsu::p
Meanwhile, Adelaide is understood to be in talks with defender Jake Kelly over a new deal.

The 26-year-old Victorian, who has played 104 games for the Crows since being rookie-listed in 2013, is out of contract at season’s end and is believed to be very happy at the club.

Discussions have been ongoing since about the mid-season break.

If we're re-signing Kelly, I'm curious to know where the list spots come from, especially as Mackay (ret) and Davis (del) will probably be coming off the rookie list (with Butts going to the senior list as well)

Do we pay out Himmelberg? Does ROC get delisted (surely not Gollant)? It'll make it especially tough if we want to keep all of Mrouch/Lynch/Talia (which I doubt we try to do)

I'm not sure about these suggestions of Murray as a key forward.

He was tried as that as a kid, and here we are today with him as a defender. Surely, if he was decent enough as a forward he would have stayed as that?
We chucked him forward in the GWS game I think it was in the 4th quarter and he clunked a couple contested marks while up there.

What's the deal with list sizes after this season? Are we staying the same or going back to normal list sizes?

If it's back to normality, could we delist Borlase and Newchurch (harsh, I know) and run with a rookie list potentially consisting of Keays/Parnell/Strachan/Murray/Dudley/O'Loughlin? That then could open up two more senior list spots

It was originally decided that all the temporary measures would be for 2021 only, but it sounds like the AFL and AFLPA are gearing up for a fight over it, though that's more likely to be over the money (how strange that the AFL doesn't want to give back the entire wage cut, who'd have thunk it) than the list spots.

If the lists return to normal as promised I believe we don't have to cut anyone to participate in the draft, however it does look like the departures of Crouch and Lynch are at least being prepared for, and I wouldn't be surprised if one of Gollant or O'Connor went as well, just depends on the draft class and our draft hand, and whatever trading we get up to.

Yeah there's no reason considering he's first 18 and we are shooting for finals next year.

Wishful thinking, hopefully Worrell will take his place by 2023, he would be handy backup. I thought Doedee would take his place all those years ago, almost did but Kelly made his way back.

I did hear him on the radio day he needed to consider his options, so I guess it comes down to whether another club offers a longer deal.

I would be massively surprised if Gollant went before any of Borlase, Newchurch, Himmelberg, Mackay or O'Connor.

Same goes for Parnell with Hamish clearly stating that both Gollant and Parnell being recruited was with a view to the future.

Delist Mackay & Davis, move Lynch to the rookie list, and promote Butts. I suspect that Crouch will depart too, via FA.

We should also get 2x senior list positions back, assuming the AFL returns list sizes back to their normal (pre-COVID) sizes. Of course, making assumptions about the AFL keeping their promises is inherently risky. Things get much, much, harder to manage if that doesn't happen.

Supposed to be going back to normal... but this is the AFL we're dealing with, so buyer beware.

Most of this is possible. The only issue is Strachan, who has already been on the rookie list for 3 years. We need to upgrade or delist him, though we could always re-draft him.

Sure, but their development seems to be on a steep climb.

the afl will backflip on the return to normal list sizes and simply claim that this season has also been covid effected.. not as badly as last years.. but effected none the less.

Would be nice if we could find someone stupid enough to take Frampton of our hands to free up a spot.
Maybe that's why we're picking him? Hoping he kicks a few goals against someone and they snap him up. Jason McCartney Rule.

Or Craig Simmons Rule
